Not sure what the other posters are talking about. I have DeskScapes running on my laptop (nothing fancy) with no visible use of resources. From what I have read on their site it can also depend on the type of wallpaper you are using.
This is a cool app, I recommend it.

WOW what a resource hog. I don't have the fastest/newest PC (Q6600 running at 3Ghz with 4gig ram) but this thing slowed even my web browsing down NOTICEABLY.

What a waste of money and a resource hog.

Why would anyone want this? Let alone pay for it?

Fantastic app! I was missing my animated wallpapers in Windows 7, and now I can have them back, plus some!

It's a nice program if you have the horsepower to run it.

This *is* the paid version that works on all versions of Windows XP and Vista. The get the free deskscapes for Vista Ultimate go to http://www.stardock.com/...eskscapes/downloads.asp

NOT FREE - as soon as you install it, it states you must upgrade to the pay version to get more deskscapes. I removed it, deleted the folder, and reinstalled the previous version (which had no such limitations) and now I also have the new deskscapes also.

Very nice program, does not seem to use much power at all, and works great.

just a quick note. this does not require vista ultimate. it has been made for any version of vista, try reading there information on there web page. any version of windows vista whether you have dreamscene or not. besides you want dreamscene, can get the hacked version from a simple search on google that can be used on any version of vista. gave it a 5. it runs very nicely.

I found DeskScapes really good to use. If only I could find more compatible .dream files. The unoffical, aka people created mpeg, wmv dreams, etc, do drain my cpu, even if it isn't supposed to, trust me I've seen it. I compared it to the boring dream you get with deskscapes and it doesn't do that..... myth or truth.. truth in fact!
Overall, great program but need more 'real' dreams :D I found this works very well with my 6600GT.

If you don't have Vista Ultimate & you can't run this prog, then why review it? Geeezz. It does not hog resources or slow your sys down. It uses your video card to render dynamic content & animation on your desktop for the new .dream format in Ultimate. Vista Ultimate people...& we know who we are, we would of paid for it anyway...this is just a great big bonus in Desktop Custimization. With Vista ReadyBoost my laptop with 2g Ram + my 2g Cruzer Titanium gives me 4 Gigs. It's Vista....it was built for this. Please know the facts before you open your mouth. Excellent Program.

Awesome program, works great in Vista, and adds a great effect to your desktop.
To the "reviewer" below it is free, you made no sense in your statement. Paying $400 for Vista Ultimate doesn't entitle you to anything except what you purchased.

Pure eye candy that will drain away at your system resources (both Ram, GPU, and yes - even a little CPU). And let's face it, moving backgrounds are **annoying**. Why am I supposed to be impressed anyway, BeOS did this on my much older computer 5 years ago.
And definately NOT free when it requires a $400 Operating System.
I gave this a second star though for those of you that are impressed by shiny things that sparkle.

This isn't active desktop. The wallpaper is a hardware accelerated video file. What does this mean? You can have swaying trees or rippling water as your wallpaper with no hit on the CPU. All the work is offloaded to the GPU. IIRC, Stardock worked with Microsoft to develop the format.
To the guy below, you can only use this with Vista Ultimate because Microsoft released DreamScene as a Vista Ultimate Extra. Blame Microsoft for screwing Home Basic/Premium/Business users out of DreamScene.
And to the people talking about how Vista is useless bulls***, you were probably the same people who called XP bloated and useless. Fast forward five years, and everybody uses XP. You'll be using Vista whether you hate it or not.

leave it to stardock to take a top notch state of the art computer and turn it into a picture window that all you can do is look at it.
Can someone please explain to me how this can be in the slightest bit productive?
Maverick_16 reviewed v1.0 on Feb 13, 2007
Yep it is basically Active Desktop all over again! ViVa Windows 3.11... I personally knew a couple of IT support guys who committed suicide because of Active Desktop...
Back to Stardock... guys you have to tell the user when this can and cannot work!!! clearly, please.
