Thunderbird+Lighting is nice but it doesn't do everything EssentialPIM does. For one, Mozilla doesn't offer a year-at-a-glance calendar... In fact, I don't think anyone else but Essential does that and I've some to like it so much that it's become by default view for planning. Life doesn't happen in one-month buckets.

One of the best and most light PIMs I've seen, as I said below.
Love it

WHY would anyone buy this when Thunderbird with Lightening addon will do EVRYTHING this does, AND email. Jeebus people are stupid.

I personally think this is an excellent program. Best of its kind.
Those who say it's bad simply did not check it out.
One point tho: it is EXTREMELLY overpriced and it's getting more and more so...

As I said before, terrible support coupled with a lack of functionality found in common PIM's leads me to rate this a 2/5.
Metshrine reviewed v2.0 on Jul 5, 2007
This program, while OK in functionality, lacks in support. The developer takes over a week to respond to a basic inquiry be it web based, forum based, or email based. The program lacks many commonalities found in other PIM's at the same price range and lacks the "Polish" I am used to in my applications. 2/5. +1 for program functionality, -3 for support.
Diam0nd, The fact that you claim Do-Org is an "All-but-windows-included tools" app shows you have never used it. It is modular and can have as much or as little functionality as you require. Your "response" seems based on what I TOLD YOU do-org was and not your own experiences.
Blaxima reviewed v2.0 on Jun 27, 2007
This has always been a 5 BUT when I load an old database it converts it with no troubles until I restart the program. The boxes for the tasks are there but no text and when I click them it has no info on the task. A mistake like that shouldn't be in an alpha version let alone a "finished" one.
Works fine databases it creates but no dice on my old ones, thanks alot

Well, here is is, v2 final. I guess a lot of people been waiting for this, at least I have been. A lot of work and beta testing has been put into this and I really do think that result is an amazing PIM application.
For those who think I'm in some way associated with EPIM are wrong, I just love the product.
I must say that Outlook is great by itself, especially the 2007 one, BUT try to install it on a pen-drive to carry with you... ;P

EPIM is cheap? Hmmm, OK, I aint gon be argueing. Seems mad expensive to me though.
do-Organiser is crap, imho. It's one of those everything-except-for-windows-included tools. Well, all power to you man.
Metshrine reviewed v2.0 RC3 on Jun 21, 2007
EPim is good for people who need a quick cheap program. I prefer Do-Organizer which, while a tad more expensive, is far more functional and offers so much more in terms of a PIM. You can truely make it your End-All, Be-All PIM.
I registered on the EPim forums and attempted to get tech support for their product and betas, however, it took well over a week to get any sort of response to my posts. This, to me, is unacceptable. The program itself is fine, however, the support is terrible.
And Diam0nd, since I know you are going to reply directly to this as you cant stand someone who bad mouths your favorite product, please remember I am not requiring you to agree with my opinion. This is my personal experience and my personal opinion. I dont expect you to agree.

You need to get your facts right. v2 gives you completely new GUI (which looks way better), new faster db format, palm syncronisation, ability to work over the network, and MANY more. You said you didnt see much. What did u see exactly?

***BE WARNED***
Loading an existing database will corrupt it for use with non BETA versions
This and a few annoyances keep this from being its usual 5.
and Yes I know its only beta but isn't that what we are reviewing, not what it was or is going to be?
P.S - Didn't see the "HUGE" step forward that diamond sees. Always makes forward progress though and I would expect the final release to be 5*

This is a great piece of software. I've tried others but I always come back to this(the portable version).
For those of you complaining Im really not sure why. There is a free version available with just a few fewer options.
The only knock on this is the interface. It could look a little nicer but then again thats not what its for and what its for it does extremly well.
4.5*

I agree, the price is fair. Many programs that begin as freeware eventually become shareware around version 2, and for good reason. With as many people using EPIM, it would be near impossible to pay the costs of maintaining the web resources needed to sustain it as freeware. EPIM isn't a seldom-downloaded program. I'm sure hundreds of thousands, if not more, have downloaded it at least once over the past 2-3 years. But now that it's shareware, just keep improving it is all users will ask. (Well that, and keeping the price reasonable.)
epim1 reviewed v1.9 Beta 1 on Aug 20, 2006
As developers of EPIM, let me clarify some points- USD 29.95 is not a yearly charge at all. You can use EPIM as long as you want. In Addition, you will get free updates for 1 year or until the 2.99 version of EssentialPIM Pro, whichever is longer.
As for the price: USD 29.95 is pretty standart for try-before-you-buy software, and we put singnificant resources into developing EPIM.
outofspace reviewed v1.9 Beta 1 on Aug 7, 2006
Great program but price! aghhhh!
Diam0nd reviewed v1.9 Beta 1 on Aug 7, 2006
Best EPIM. But, the price is simply unbelivable, and that is NOT for a life-time license, yearly. But again, its one of the best I've seen.
Price sucks. No discounts. Greed? What else can it be?
I'll stick with Outlook 2003...
zridling reviewed v1.9 Beta 1 on Aug 7, 2006
Actually, it's a refinement of Outlook XP. Most people will go back to Outlook 2007 when they see its expanded calendaring and note taking features. Still, EPIM will do.
Raven Sati reviewed v1.81 Beta on Jun 12, 2006
Pretty standard proggie, actually. Obviously no underlying design concept - just a mish-mash of this and that borrowed from what's already out there. Playing with this little dog is almost more trouble than it is worth.
zridling reviewed v1.81 Beta on Jun 12, 2006
I got nothing.
Diam0nd reviewed v1.8 Beta 3 on May 3, 2006
Excellent. BUT:
1. WAY too expensive for that kind of functionality (i mean it IS useful and well done, but it is still a simple application)
2. No student discounts. Very strange. Greed?

What a software!
I think this will the best PIM for MS Windows.
Not mature for professional calendaring, I use Calendarscope http://fileforum.betanew...lendarscope/990478772/1
Not so good for outlining / notetaking as KeyNote
http://fileforum.betanew...ail/KeyNote/983902873/1
But here, we've a future to grow !
I've bought the "Pro" version, portable on USB stick
zridling reviewed v1.6 on Sep 28, 2005
Am I the only one who hates the notes feature? Why EPIM doesn't do simple, intuitive outlining is beyond me. It is nice that you can fully hide the clock and side panels now.

EPIM is a very good program and gets even better. There are some things which I would change but I think they are the matter of my personal taste only.
I have to write that the support and the forum of EssentialPIM are extremely helpful. It does not happen every day.
googun reviewed v1.6 Beta 2 on Aug 16, 2005
This is a good solid piece of software but it has far to much unused grey space, which needlessly reduces the amount of space available for the calendar. Stack the icons and get rid of the acres of grey. Otherwise it is looking very good.
zridling reviewed v1.5 on Jul 8, 2005
The only disappointments for me in this final release are too much wasted screen space and the lack of a 2-3 month calendar view. Otherwise, an excellent effort.

Don't agonize.....Organize with EssentialPIM. Best PIM in market.
Shakespeare Man reviewed v1.5 Beta 4 on Jun 6, 2005
I've found Essential PIM Pro Beta 4 to be one of the most useful AND user-friendly programs I've ever tested. I'm a nonprofit administrator and the program does everything I need it to do and does it quickly and accurately. Additionally, the staff is very responsive to user input and suggestions, which has not been my experience in the past with other developers. I'm totally sold on Essential PIM (both the free and Pro versions) and give it an unqualified and enthusiastic recommendation! Well done, Essential PIM!
celticjonny reviewed v1.5 Beta 4 on Jun 5, 2005
ePIM pro is a thing of beauty. It is simple to use, well structured and thought out, and has all the features I need to juggle work and family commitments.
The additional features of the pro version, more than justify the time it takes to do a bit of beta testing, (or for that matter the minimal cost of the forthcoming realease version).
Although I have only been a betatester for ePIM for a short time I have found an enthusiasm and team spirit which can only bode well for future developement.
To keep your head when all around are losing theirs use ePIM.
zridling reviewed v1.5 Beta 4 on May 31, 2005
It's really nice to watch this app evolve, and few developers are as responsive to their forums as this one.

If you are in need of a software to organize your personnel/work stuff i.e. to-do list, tasks, contacts and other notes, this program is a GEM. You can attach pictures and files also. The great thing about this program is its synchronization. So DON'T AGONIZE..., BUT ORGANIZE WITH ESSENTIAL PIM
winfidel reviewed v1.5 Beta 3 on May 25, 2005
After trying out the free version, I joined the beta to help improve the product and try out the more advanced features. I use it for organizing my projects at work (programming), and I find it useful to have the tree-structured notebook with rich text. I can paste in code snippets and retain the syntax highlighting, which is nice. I also like having the organizer/calendar/task manager right there.
It's small, straight forward, and simple to use; most features are very direct - you can type right into the calendar, and drag the length of an event to the correct time length. You don't need to bring up other dialogs to enter the info.
Also, the contact manager allows you to customize all the fields to however you want, which I like. Once the planned features are all implemented, I think it will be a killer app in its category of small PIMs.
zridling reviewed v1.5 Beta 3 on May 24, 2005
I love the unique fact that one can enter a task directly into the calendar, but I wish the calendar view had more options, e.g., a 3-month calendar view in the side panel instead of only one month.

Hello, starting from EPIM Pro Beta 2, we have re-made the work with IE. IE now is called only when you actually need to print, not at startup of EPIM. If that solves some problems, same feature will be introduced in EPIM Free 1.6
testerx reviewed v1.5 Beta 1 on May 7, 2005
A very lean, to-the-point progam, size below 1.3K. No unnecessary bells and whistles, but practically everything a PIM-user wants, and more (e.g. physical or linked attachments to Notes and To-Do items). The Notes function is also excellent for organizing all sorts of information in a tree structure. The developer reads, and quickly reacts to, comments made in the forum. A highly promising program, and one I have been looking for for a long time.

Sorry to say, but darthbeads you are COMPLETELY wrong. If you browse the forum of EPIM you will see that the Pro version was planned around 3 months ago (i.e. very beginning), even more there have been discussions what should differ both versions. The basic version (I mean the current one) of the program was, is and will be free. I received the following e-mail two days ago (some fragments).
"(...)Development for EPIM Free version will continue, as it was before.
(...)
Additional features in PRO version:
Editable Categories. To-Do- module and and Tasks have common categories list. You can now add/remove categories, move them up and down and custom colours can be assigned to each category!
Advanced To-Do. Hierarchical To-Do list. All to-dos can have sub to-do tasks.
Database sharing. Each database can be used simultaneously by several users, concurrent access is allowed.
Attachments. Users can now hold their files directly in EPIM database! You can either save links to the files, or files themselves! Each Note/Task/To-Do/Contact can have unlimited numbers of files attached/linked.
Assignees. Each To-Do/Task can have assignees, selected from Contacts module (or added customly)
Backup. That's a robust backup solution, keeping adjustable number of copies of the database and made in adjustable periods, on the fly.
(...)
Please backup your database before opening it in Pro version!
For those who for any reason may want to switch down to EPIM Free version, we will be providing a converter to get your Pro database down to free one."
PS (I mean, it is written by me, yokozuna, and expresses my point of view only) You are asked for donations. If you will give them to the authors of the program no paid version will be needed. I am neither the author nor the developer of the program but I understand that the authors do not feed their children with air.
