Publisher's Description

ForecastFox is an extension that brings international weather from AccuWeather.com to your Firefox Web browser. You can use your US zip code or you can easily find your town or city by using the built in search tool. It is unobtrusive and lightweight, yet can be customized to display nearly as much data as the leading desktop weather programs. If you can't find what you are looking for, click the weather icons displayed to open the AccuWeather.com forecast for that day. A slider, just like the one notifying you when your downloads are completed, pops up from the bottom right corner of your screen when the current conditions are updated. You can even set what appears in it or disable it.

Very good although temperature is not allways correct

uninstalled recently after the severe weather alerts got grating. I know it's a configurable option, but it didn't used to bug me so often. I still keep around for users that have grown to love this puppy.

I like forcecastfox and used to run it all the time. Then I found 1-Click Weather. It offers me more detail, and doesn't seem as quirky.

“Forecastfox”, along with “All-In-One Sidebar”, “PlainOldFavorites”, and “InfoLister” are my most favourite and used extensions for my Mozilla Firefox v1.0.7. Fabulous! I would like to thank all of the the authors for the great job they have done with all of them. The main problem the authors of Forecastfox seems to be where to find a weather site that offers free downloading of accurate weather data. And there ARE problems with this. But this is not caused by the authors of Forecastfox but by the weather sites themselves. Some months ago Forecastfox switched from Weather.com to AccuWeather.com (see the page for the extension on Mozilla Update) and there has been some griping about this on the Forecastfox forums by Users of the extension. However, as I am composing this message, my TV is showing me the local weather forecast from The Weather Channel (which receives its data from Environment Canada) and it is showing the unusual weather warning we are presently under in my city, meanwhile neither Weather.com, nor AccuWeather.com, nor The Weather Channel’s site show this unless I dig around looking for it well away from the main page for my city. If NONE of these sites display this information along with the forecast then how can Forecastfox be expected to? I just wish that there was a free plug-in for IE shell browsers that did the same thing as Forecastfox does for Firefox, Mozilla, and Netscape. Or am I missing something? :-) I give it a rating of 10 out of 5!

I agree with fyrewalll. Accuweather can be quirky. Even now I still get a popup warning of a thunderstorm that was cancelled a couple of hours ago. I have also seen "Sunny" late at night etc. but don't get me wrong, I love this handy little program but it does need a little work. I also like the radar but I wouldn't mind seeing it at least twice the current size.

I liked this extension until it switched to accuweather. I have found that accuweather is very inaccurate. With the accuweather feed in forecastfox, it tells me that there's thunderstorms when it's a perfectly clear day. It also tells me that it's sunny at 11pm (when it has been dark for hours). And I did have the right city selected. I wrote to the autor and asked if they could have the feed be user selectable (weather.com or accuweather.com) and he said he would see what they could do. I have since switched to 1-ClickWeather as my weather extension in firefox which is just as good if not better. Check it out if you prefer decent weather reporting from weather.com

Never had an issue with accuweather. The defaults on this program seem a little strange, but easily adjusted.

This was my favorite firefox extension until the sudden switch to accuweather as the main source for data. Now this extension is useless as my forecasts have been totally innacurate and inconsistent ever since. Would be nice if I could find a way to switch back to weather.com as the data source for this one or maybe find the old extension and replace it with that version. It's too bad.

Apparently you didn't bother reading up on this before you started complaining on the switched to AccuWeather. The extension author explains it quite neatly in his Wiki:

'Several factors contributed to us switching our data provider from Weather.com® to Accuweather.com®. The "Terms of Use" for the feed from Weather.com®, was very restrictive. It kept us from implementing some of the things we hope to implement. They had also asked us to move to a feed that greatly reduced the amount of imformation available. At the same time several companies were contacting us about using their data. Accuweather.com® was the most responsive, and provided us with greatest flexible and room to grow.'

This, plus the dictionary are the only Extensions I use for the Linux and Windows versions of FF. Less calories, tastes great! OK, I also have FlashGot, but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet. Forecast Fox is simple to use, easy to customize and the price is right.

Excellent light-weight weather extension that does just what it says without the bloat.

This is one of my must-have extensions.

One of the few FF plugins I have to have.

Primis

Primis reviewed v0.7 on Feb 21, 2005

Not a big fan of FF plugins showing up on here I guess.

That being said, this is one of the few FF plugins that truly justifies its own existence. I have a Weather panel in my DesktopSidebar, but FirecastFox gives me more info in a smaller space, and it's pretty customizable. The little notifiers when the weather changes is nice as well. I'd rate this right up there with the FF AdBlock plugin in terms of true usefulness.

Just doesn't appear at all, wherever I choose to have it displayed, even after restarts. I'm UK, but it does find Manchester UK for me in its options, so I'd have thought it worked for the UK? Tried with new AND default profiles - Fox v1.0
