Could be a great client, unfortunately if fails. Here's why:

- No international spell checker support (only Chinese and English)
- Is not possible to turn off automatic html images loading in messages (also means, possible security issue here)
- Is not possible to export contact from the address book
- Filters manager window is not resizable (with lot of rules it gets clumsy).

Installation dialogs for this are in Chinese, so it's impossible to install. Might give it another shot if they ever get round to releasing an English version.

I'm sticking with Foxmail 7.0!

With 7.2 you can't customize several annoyances. 1) The mail list is grouped by date and you can't ungroup it. 2) There's no way to change the font of the view or preview panes, nor the background color. 3) When viewing the RSS list without a preview pane, or with preview on bottom, the titles in the list don't show at all. With RSS feeds I would also like to be able to search them. But this is missing in all versions of Foxmail.

I use foxmail because all other email clients consume huge resources, including most browsers. Since I use IMAP, I just want a simple, small, program. Foxmail is the closest I can find. I love the fact that I can run it on a portable drive without installing it on each operating system I use.

However, it doesn't have a way to synch my address book with gmail. Other popular clients screw this up too (I usually end up with hundreds of duplicates on my Android.) I REALLY need a solution for this but I don't want to link my operating system to a Microsoft live account (too scarey!)

If anyone knows of a good gmail contacts syncing program for Windows let us know!

Just upgraded from version 7.1 (which seems to have some issues) to 7.2. Very pleased with the new version. I have been using Foxmail for many years and it has never let me down. To get the English menu had to delete the Chinese lgb files. Importing all data from old version worked perfectly. It is recommended to do a clean install instead of upgrading you can import all the mails, filters, labels, signatures, templates etc from the previous version (some copy and paste is required for some items like Labels.
Version 7.2 with a clean install is using only have as much space as a upgrade. It also works perfectly on a USB stick or portable drive.
I can not understand the comments from Hilbert. Why do you want to install a mail program if you don't have a e-mail account. There is Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and many more free mail programs. Sign up with one of them and install your Foxmail, as simple as that. I have been using Eudora, Pegasus, Outlook, Becky, Thunderbird and many more and Foxmail is the best in all aspects.

There's no off-line installer or obvious way to setup an account off-line, so the program is essentially useless in deployment terms.

Moreover, FoxMail WON'T EVEN START unless there's an account--no access to the server, the internet down etc. and you're truly stuffed. Nor, seemingly, is there a pre-configurable .ini file or such that a user can edit beforehand.

The programmer of this email program really is an imbecile, as he's not even thought the basic operational logic through before he's started programing!

If the programmer ever reads this then I suggest he downloads an ancient copy of Eudora mail, (v 7.1.0.9 is still downloadable) and examine how eudora.ini works! Essentially, there's multiple ways of creating accounts off-line (which one often has to do in corporate environments).

(For that matter, can anyone tell me how one is expected to set up this program if say the server account has not yet been set up? With email, often client-side setups are done before the server account is created.)

By default the Foxmail interface is in Chinese. To use Foxmail in English just go into the installation directory and delete the Chinese.lgb file. However, for the English version the 'Reply' feature will be affected (the content of the original message will not displayed in the reply - you can use the HTML templates to avoid this)

Pretty good, just cannot find a way to use other spell checker dictionaries besides American. Anyone knows if there's a way to set up that?
I've downloaded an Italian.adm file, added to the Dictionary folder and changed the dictionary settings in the Data SpellCheck.ini as follow:

Have just installed Ver.7 and here are few problems I have encountered:

1.If you import the mail accounts from a previous version then the "In Box" will be displayed in Chinese characters. You can solve this problem by creating a new account with the same name and move the mails from the imported account to the new account and the delete the imported account.

2. Unfortunately in Signature Manager you can no longer embed a link in a picture as in the previous version.

3.Templates can not be sorted for forwarding, replying and compose anymore as in the previous version. They just will be sorted alphabetically.

4. There is no Tool Bottom for Receive Current Account and Receive All.

There are a lot of new features and the program is extremely fast and uses very few memory. A very good e-mail client and I just hope the few shortcomings as listed above will be implemented again.

fast. easy. allows multiple emails accounts without lots of scripting or filters. really nice for separating business accounts or personal and business accounts. Only problem is some of the menus and text is in Chineese and can't be changed. Other than that is a very good program. Been using it for several years.

Point: Close foxmail before searching for, and deleting, chinese.lgb. This does enable english to an extent.

Can anyone help in reapect of beta 6. Obviously there is a sync server here for registered users, to enable mail sycchronisation automatically between pPCs

I have been using Foxmail for several years without a problem. However, a bug has introduced itself recently which prevents me from receiving mail. I am being asked for my password each time I click on "check", but when I enter it, I get a response, "ERR, authentication failed".
I am able to send mail without a problem.
I have tried deleting the program and downloading version 5.0 but the same problem exists.
I am able to retrieve my mail by using my ISP's program but I really want to continue using the superior Foxmail.

i really like this email client and vastly improved from the v5 line I tried last.

Uses low ram (about 6mb when idle)
Nice interface
works well,
good spam filters (bayesian) and the remote email checker is a godsend. Every day I get 100 or so spam emails, with the remote.
Also works very well on my usb stick as a portable app.

For me and my needs, it's way way better than Thunderbird, Better than OUtlook express/windows mail, popcorn, eudora.. pretty much the best email client I've used for years and years.

Foxmail 6.0 Beta 5

Having used previous versions, the improvments in Ver. 5.0 Beata 5 make the program a pleasure to use. In my estimation there are a few changes that I feel would move Foxmail to "5" rating.
- Default Font setting: Style and setting not available. Presently they have to be reset everytime the program is started.
- Spell Checker Window: All it to dock, out of the way of text. Presently is defaults to the center.
- Date Format: Allow change options to i.e May 19,2007

Very good, very stable. I have used it for years. I use the integrated Remote Mailbox Manager to review messages in the POP3 server and delete those that I do not want to download (90% of them). The installation dialogs are in Chinese, but are easy to follow if one installs programs frequently. After the installation, the file chinese.lgb must be deleted manually.

I've used Foxmail for a few years now and find it thw one i keep coming back to
Version 6 beta ves 021 is the latest.

Its a nice and clean interface, efficient with useful tools address book etc. spam filtering etc

Deleting the chinese lang file makes it english apart from the Help files and forum links

Its dead easy to set up, the backup tool works great(its a separate download but worth it

I always use the 'Live update' facility to keep up to date with downloads

Gie eit a try dont be frightened by the chinese language at first just delete the chinese file in teh Explorer window

I used the Beta 3 some weeks ago. Without asking me the program tried to connect to these adresses : ping.qq.com (213.133.41.62) datacollect.foxmail.com.cn (219.133.40.164).
Other users have confirmed this. ( and it is not any kind of updating feature, because i cann not enable or disable this beavior) Since FM is sold and it seems the owner is now tencent.inc and not longer Zhang Xialong. I stick with the latest version what was developed by Zhang himself ( 5.08 ). So i don't know if FM still can be called Freeware. For not asking me to give permission to contact the adresses i listed above i give lowest rating possible. Trust

It need to have selection which one need to install: English or Chinese. so user did not confuse.

I also have used Foxmail for years, mainly because of the integrated remote facility that allows to filter and manage manually the mail in the server, before downloading it. Besides, it is fast and very stable. After installing, the file Chinese.lgb must be deleted for the interface to appear in English.

I've used foxmail for about 3 years now and it rocks beyond believe, nothing can compare to it in speed and it interface. I got a new job now and they tried to get me to use Oulook 2003(Pathetic crap). Foxmail never crashes, is fast and the multi accounts are awesome(gmail works on it to:)).

Only thing about foxmail is that it doesn't have calendaring and doesn't get updated enough. Wish they would open source it.

Quick tip.. install is in chinese. Just click the "next" arrows. After you install it, goto the program folder and delete the chinese.lgb file, you will then have a full english version!

This program is great. I love the fact that it will import your hotmail account via its own proxy server which allows your antivirus software to scan it... unlike outlook express.

Thanks FoxLover. The English beta of Foxmail is working nicely on my system. This app is unbelievable . . . fast, easy to set up, easy to use. Managing multiple accounts, not to mention composing mail from a selected account, is just too too easy. Way better than Outlook. I've hung on to Outlook because of the Calendar and other functions, but 2006 looks like the year I'll be going full on Foxmail, with Yahoo Calendar (via Yahoo Messenger) for calendaring, schduling, and task management, and Yahoo Mail for backup.

I am a chinese, but with a English OS.
Just delete the chinese.lgb file or change its name to inactivate it in your foxmail folder, you'll get a fully functional english vesion. Although, the help file will still be chinese.

Foxmail is the creme de la creme of window's email programs. Ability to have password protected multiple accounts is great. I love the templates. Embedding photos and music into email messages will really impress your contacts.

I have been using Outlook, Outlook Express, Incredimail, Thunderbird email programs for a while. Non of these programs give me good feeling except, maybe, Incredimail. Incredimail was good but it died on me recently, and I just could not revitalise it. Then I came across this Foxmail after frantic search for an alternative. When I started using Foxmail, I never came across any nagging problems like "unable to send", "IP address wrong".... everything was a breeze, from installation to sending/receiving mails. The interface is nice too. My conclusion is that all I need is a good and reliable email client program and I am not into other fancies, except good spam filtering features. Foxmail has almost everything I need, including effective spams control. Nice job. I will give it a 5.

Great mail client! I like Thunderbird too but it still is too slow to load up/has too big a footprint.
geekboy2000, can't you achieve this moving/sorting with View|Account-Adjust Bar? That works for me.
I'd love to be able to manage my newsgroups from within Foxmail (that's why I didn't give it 5).

I'd give Foxmail 5 stars if they'd resolve the issue that doesn't allow folder moving/sorting. Unfortunately, Foxmail's authors are slow to fix issues they themselves don't care about. Still, the price is right, it's stable, and an all around good e-mail client.

5.0 has been out for quite some time, though there were new versions (builds); at the moment build 600 is the most recent one.

FoxMail is loaded with options, is very reliable, and is very user friendly, while at the same time being not bloated (as others already mentioned). The list of features is long, these are just a few:

* Easy to set up
* Anti-Spam build into the program (rules and Bayesian)
* Strong Filtering capabilities
* View HTML messages in plain text by default
* Mail ticker build into the program.
* Multiple account support
* Build in Template Manager
* Available in localized versions
* Remote Mail box management built into the program

Honesty demands that I write that there are also a number of issues to be solved, and wishes which would make the program much better if implemented.

Eh, wasn't immediately impresses. Even in the latest 5beta version, I couldn't move/add/delete the main window columns (like size, date, etc)...to me this is going backwards in customization....did I miss something? i think foxmail is very nice and stable... . i used included opera mail client before, but i tryed foxmail 4.1 and its really good i think, especially because it works behind my lokal network and some firewalls.

get 4.2 instead, much better. there is no english install yet, just the chinese one. their both the same program, just install 4.2 then delete the chinese language file in the root install dir, and it diverts back to english. ive been using this client for many years, love it. too bad aerofox.com was stolen from them.
