Game Booster is a utility with an entirely different purpose, so that comparison makes no sense. (It's hardly surprising that someone parroting the typical "xxx is free and better" drivel would be full of nonsense.) Game Jackal sucks because it sucks.

Where would one drop their game disc to ruin it? In the CD slot of a paper shredder? And what exactly is an accidental accident? An accident that happened accidentally? Anyway, no wonder we are an obese society, we can't even reach for a game disc and insert it in the player. I realize some of you gamers have four thousand games loaded and not loading discs all the time would be helpful, but I wouldn't use this worthless software unless it had a vagina attached to it.

Would need ten promotions to rise to the level of "suck".

xsnred vastly overstates the uselessness of this software. This is a great idea and it would be wonderful if it actually worked. I don't have a huge number of games, but I hate fumbling with CDs just the same. I also feel I shouldn't have to deal with that hassle (treated like a thief, while the actual thieves are doing nicely with their CD-independent installations). The problem isn't that there is no place for GameJackal; the problem is that this crapware doesn't work well AT ALL.

This app is a dogs piles of crap.

It takes so dam long to work it all , just to play a game, best way to play games, and save your disk from getting messed up -

copy the game using blindwrite , at lest this works.

open up the bindwright image up in d - tools virtual scsi harddrive,
select all files from virtual disk and copy over to desktop, now you can grab a no - cd file and replace the exe. repack the whole game - with patches, mods ect and make a iso image of the lot, return to d - tools, clear the blindwrite file of the virtual drive and load in the iso one you made up - load setup.exe of game from the virtual drive, when done installing, you won't need a disk to play the game, because you added on a no-cd - but check what version your game is , one way to find is buy looking on a no-cd site and go down the list of the no-cds, you find a version like 1.1,1.2 and so on, only use the first no-cd with your make of game, any higher version of no-cd will make the game not start up and crash out ! reason for this is because you carn't patch up a copy disk, only when you install to the hard drive you then can patch up the game.

this very much works for me and can be even quicker than GAME JACKLE.

what does it really do, nothink that a game crack carn't do . who give a toss about virus in game cracks. at lest games work with them still in it, if this program had a virus in it - maybe it would make the thing work two,

for your effort i give 2

As with all their tools, overpriced for what it offers (or let me day, doesn't offer)

No issues with new SecuROM games (ie Wolfenstein, Batman Arkham Asylum, etc) or my older games. Saves my original game discs from wear and tear and the accidental accident where they might get dropped as well as making life easier by not having to store my game discs near the computer and not having to put a disc in the drive every time I want to play the game that I purchased.

I'ved used this software with my newer and older games and while now and then some protections can be a irksome if the user reports a problem it will be looked into. Games like Deus Ex through the protection on Fallout 3 work great on my system. I've also used it with numerous Tomb Raider games. In the case of Fallout 3, Bethesda only placed the protection on accessing the configuration menu where it will ask for the disc rather than when starting the game by running the main executable. Given the current state of affairs in the gaming community with protections this software is in a class of its own and does a great job making life much easier so users don't need to keep inserting game CDs/DVDs as well as creating small "profiles" rather than creating a full disc image of each game disc.

I've found this to be an EXTREMELY frustrating bit of software. I have tried it with several different games, and it NEVER works. I try right clicking shortcuts and using the "Convert to Game Jackal Profile" method (which should be equivalent to using the Game Jackal main window). I try not creating a full image, I try creating a full image, I try the "scan additional sectors" (or whatever it's called) function--nothing works. EVER. When I try simply viewing the log, I get an access violation.

I can't even get old Barbie games for my daughter to work with this useless piece of crapware!

I used to create a full ISO copy of each game disc, and then use UltraISO to mount them as a virtual drive. This means I had to constantly mount them whenever someone wanted to play one of the games. It was a big hassle; exactly the hassle that Game Jackal is supposed to alleviate!

I've recently switched to Alcohol 120%* (I know; Alcohol 52% would work as well), and I am never looking back. I simply use Alcohol (or UltraISO) to create a disc image, and I keep each game image mounted to its own "dedicated" virtual drive at all times. Using the AxCmd.exe command line utility is another option (and some games require it since they're too stupid to look past the first one or two disc drives for their game disc). This setup works, and I've stopped ripping my hair out with crapware like Game Jackal.

Oh--and don't expect Game Jackal to uninstall properly. I recommend using something like Total Uninstall to monitor the Game Jackal installation if you plan to try it.

The real "jackal" is the one who keeps charging money for this digital turd.

* Unlike the idiot below, I've actually paid for my chosen software.
