I pay for my AV & Anti-Malware & used Hitman & subscribed but all it ever found it found were FP's & caused far more grief than assurance. -

But to see what's changed I installed & ran it today - It found 'Ad-muncher' as suspicious - Nothing else just a well known unmodified program -

From the risk log Hitman produced -

C:\Program Files\Ad Muncher\AdMunch.exe
Size . . . . . . . : 595,144 bytes
Age . . . . . . . : 89.4 days (2012-07-13 23:21:13)

That's why I stopped using it & it seems little has changed, I have yet to see Hitman being used in any mal-ware removal guide. Get (buy) a decent AV, buy the full version of Mbam - Sorted - Add to that you get no discount for loyalty & no reply to the email asking why.

Previously I left a less than perfect review for this software, indicating that it was pretty worthless considering. Strangely, my review no longer shows up. So here it is again. Worthless. Only goes after "incidents" that are already widely known and have removal procedures in place.

Avoid. and -1 for removing my previous review... would that be to artificially boost the overall score? Who knows.

Due to using sigs from a variety of sources the chances of FP's are high. I did have a subscription but I was surprised on renewal there was no discount for current users & as it found many FP's while I was subscribed so I found it was more trouble than it was worth ~

Hitman failed to clean a Root-kit/Boot Virus on my sons PC. it found them but was unable to clean, in the end the FREE Norton Malware Remover cleaned it after a reboot. I won't be renewing my subscription to Hitman as it failed on the one time it was needed. A wasted £17 for my son.

Also neither did Eset Smart Security remove it. Super Anti-Spyware v5 didn't even find it & Trojan Remover never found it either. I was very surprised Malwarebytes could not remove it. The free Kaspersky Malware removal tool also failed to either detect or remove it. All were run in safe mode as well as in Windows. Glad I use NIS now. An interesting learning curve.

All were run legally.

Very good and fast AV scanner, I think Cloud Scan is a future of the AV technology and improved a lot later. SD and others looks like old fashioned today. For those who wants real time protection try Panda Cloud Antivirus free of charge.

If you really want to pay for an antispyware software then go for Spyware Doctor, only its too heavy on system resources so a scan or 2 every week and then disable it.

reign99

reign99 reviewed v3.5.0.59 on Jun 10, 2009

Easily the best out there in my opinion. Sure it's only free for two weeks, but at basically $15 for a year, who cares? It's not a bloated POS like most software of this type, and it works better and faster than anything else I've used. Highly recommended.

Are you mad below? The new technology in this tool is nothing less than grounbreaking so be an intelligent person and read first before making rediculous statements (see website for background info). 50% of our users are protected by Internet Security software from leading vendors but 35% of those users are infected anyway! These shocking statistics will appear on our website later this week and will be updated every day.

Oh, so a lot has been changed, you can only try for 7 days removing malware, so it is shareware for now(?), thanks, but I pass..
Maybe this prog learned from the mistakes in the version 1 & 2 but no more HitMan Pro for me

markloman

markloman reviewed v3.0.0.2740 Beta on Oct 14, 2008

This anti-malware no longer installs any software. It contains a new revolutionary behavioral scan that finishes under 5 minutes (on most systems) and the multi-vendor confirmation cloud contains technologies like Prevx, AntiVir, NOD32, a-squared and Ikarus. False positives are practically non-existent since the program contains a built-in whitelist of profiled Windows systems (2000 through Vista). The cloud has whitelisting capabilities as well so it learns fast. Try it, you will be surprised how well it works. Unlimited scanning with 7 day free malware removal.

Fred-Erik reviewed v3.0.0.2715 Beta on Oct 11, 2008

Why are the reviewers here such IDIOTS! Come ON! TRY the program before you review it! Hitman Pro 3.0 is a different program than Hitman Pro 2. Hitman Pro 2 installs other antispyware programs, and configures them automatically, indeed giving you less control. Hitman Pro 3 doesn't even install other antispyware programs. And it sure does give you control. It checks the program it finds against an online database, and lets you decide if you think it's spyware too.

If course you can rate this program low, but please, try it before you do. The guys below who gave it one star haven't.

radiomaffia

radiomaffia reviewed v3.0.0.2715 Beta on Oct 10, 2008

@Fred-Erik above my comment I want to say : It is crap and you know it! My pc was full all sort of folders installed on my pc done by Hitman Pro after a scan. Windows had several errors after a full scan and it toke ages before finishing a scan. Come on, no one is gonne believe you any more!

At first this program was very promising, but after some saw it was just a clean-up featureprog without you are able to control it soon lost that intrested of the real-pc-fanatics and only the stupido-users continou using hitmanpro cause they weren't aware what went on during scanning. do not come to my if it removes more then you wished for and your windows finally crashed! there are better progs like Lavasoft to use for cleaning and you are back in control at most virusscanners in their pro edition allready doing the cleaning of adware and spyware. If this program was very good it would have been known by many but there any left that i know off, i can say that is does more damage to your pc then cleaning it!

If You already have some of the antispyware programs installed, like Spybot it uninstall that without asking to keep it or not, even if it is newer than what this program download.

Fred-Erik

Fred-Erik reviewed v3.0.0.2515 Beta on Sep 30, 2008

Stop giving this a low rating because antivirus software think it's dangerous. It's not. As he explains on his site, he uses the AutoIt macro scripting language to create Hitman Pro, and antivirus software is very over-sensitive to that language, because macro's are easily used for bad things, like ruining your pc.

So stop being stupid and rate this program for what it does, and not for the false positives caused by NOD32 etc.

Fred-Erik

Fred-Erik reviewed v3.0.0.2405 Beta on Sep 15, 2008

I really really like the new version. Maybe they should have given in another name, because it has nothing to do with the 'old' Hitman Pro, but whatever.

The idea is that Hitman Pro 3 is not a program that installs a bunch of other antispyware programs and clicks the buttons for you, as in version 2, but that it has it's own detection engine. When's it ready detecting every file which might be spyware, it checks them against a database on the internetz. When it knows the file, it says it's safe or not, and when it doesn't know the file, it says it doesn't know the file. ;-) So you don't get false positives, because you really have to choose yourself if you think it's harmful or not. It also does check against some criteria, like if the process is in use, if it's in a system folder, like system32, etc.

All in all, it's a great program, but only for people who know what they're doing. For people who just want to click next a couple of times: move along.

Excellant program for removing spyware. We've used it for several months on all 4 of our home computers. It has effectively handled the few spyware situations we have encountered. Hitman Pro is a one icon start for several of the most common spyware removal apps which also updates them prior to each scan.

JaapB

JaapB reviewed v2.4.3 on Jun 28, 2006

It is strange to see nobody did download Hitman Pro yet. In Holland this programcombination (I don't know another word for it) is by far the most popular anti-spyware there is. If this doesn't do the trick, nothing will!
