Hey tontino, i think that every companies should be just be banned from coding in java!
tontito reviewed v7 Build b19 on Sep 1, 2007
Just a small note:
The programs run faster or slower depending in how good it was coded, same applies for other languages.
What i have seen with java is that there are lots of bad coders giving java a bad reputation.
This also applies for big companies codding.
Some people/companies should be just be banned from coding in java!
Kind regards

OpenOffice is mostly written in C++. Only minor parts (such as database support) is coded in Java.

Su need to make Java slimmer, and did not eat too much resources.
including applications which build using Java.
Such as OpenOffice.org which many people complains that it is Slow.

I am wondering, is this also usable for end-users? As the java 6 runtime? I think the description here on betanews is a bit lacking in clearity...
Sharp_Rulez reviewed v7 Build b17 on Aug 2, 2007
I think the way the Title has been written is misleading:
It is "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 7 build b17 for Windows" and not a Java Se Development Kit (JDK) for "Windows 7 b17" (as we may notice the next vesion of windows is called "Windows 7").

utomo, it's _far_ from entering beta.
utomo reviewed v7 Build b04 on Dec 25, 2006
Yes, Java become better now.
Unfortunatelly the version number change are too fast, just after the version 6 released not long time ago. we already get the version 7 beta.
Even the www.OpenOffice.org which developed by sun and the community still not use version 6 yet, they already offer the version 7 beta.
I think better if they keep the version number same first, maybe such as 6.1 or something like that. (with the compatibility of course)
If not the programmer will not use new version, because they did not want to much changes in short time, in their developed software.
just my 2c

Far from being a dead language, Java is enjoying a rebirth. It is soon to GPL'd (or equiv license) so will only become more popular. i am a c# developer but Java can run in places that .Net can't live. We use Java in these cases (which seems to happen more and more often). Java 7 needs polish but is a solid performer. the build once, run anywhere paradigm is absolute gold for developers. Role on the final version!

i use firefox portable 2.0 beta 1. yahoo games always hangs when exiting because of java. with this release it does not seem to be hanging in process tree. ie 6 still does.

Java is not dead and as a software developer myself Java's console capability has certain underlying features that put it far ahead of C++ depending on what you are doing.
The key word being "depending", I would say that in a lot of ways C++ outweighs Java. But not every. There are times I choose Java over C++ for efficiency and elegance.

codding is becoming way too complex ....

java == dead;
aredo reviewed v6 Beta Build 73 on Feb 27, 2006
Java is getting way too complex and doesn't offer the needed programming customizations. Also, until JIT hardware accellerators won't get included inside CPUs its performance won't be on par with C++ binaries.
Java has a limit usage and by making the language more and more complex they are giving developers some serious issues. The best programmers still prefer C++ over Java which despite being an OOP language formally it still lacks many OOP features and paradigms that even C++ had way before it.

It need to improve:
- More efficient file size. now after we install it grow too big, it is more than 100MB. from original size about 40MB.
- Less resources use please.
- and OpenOffice.org need to use the latest Java, to make it more better.

Blisteringly fast on my system (much faster than the feature lacking V1 Microsoft java), and supports the lastest Java goodies...
Get this Java...
Sharp_Rulez reviewed v5.0 RC on Sep 3, 2004
No its not a typo, Sun has bumped the version to 5.0.
This is the explication why java was named 'java 2' when sun released Java 1.2.
1.4 was a very a major release (as 1.5.. ahum 5.0). This version deserved more then the '0.1' incrementation..
The next major version will be 6.0 (or 5.1 for revision number)
Joco reviewed v5.0 RC on Sep 3, 2004
Typo on version number? 1.4, 1.5 and now 5.0 RC?
skonrad reviewed v5.0 RC on Sep 3, 2004
Java has come a long way, and still needs to go a long way. Speed and memory footprint need to be improved, but I think it should be feature complete now.
To all the people complaining about the download size: The runtime environemnt, which most people incl. most software developers only need, is just 13 megs large.
Maverick_16 reviewed v5.0 RC on Sep 3, 2004
US justice should have put a condition on SUN "to not turn JAVA into another monster like windows".
Where are SUN programmers that used to do miracles with under 1MB code?
GO BACK TO BASICS guys!!! u still can do a lot with a fraction of the size of this... gosh! Look at MenuetOS: brilliant and graphical and fits on a single floppy. AND please don't say "everybody have broadband now" thing...
Zulithe reviewed v5.0 RC on Sep 3, 2004
Best version of Java yet :) While still not final, the Java programs I use launch and respond faster. And now that Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine has been discontinued, all Windows users need Java installed, so make sure you get this one! *tip* Goto Control Panel and double-click the Java icon. Here you can set various Java preferences. Under 'Advanced' turn off "Place Java in System Tray" and "Do not start console" (under Java Console) to increase loading speed. :)
