MDaemon is very utilitarian and just works. We beat it silly at a previous job and it worked great. A good exchange substitute.
BoNeLeSS, considering this is a WINDOWS only mail server, why bother swinging around your list of unix-only mail servers? So tired of the linux crowd touting their goods that "if only the rest of us had their great knowledge we could use too". Geeze.

Very nice and powerful software at a fraction of the cost of Exchange, Domino or Groupwise. Of course you have open source alternatives (postifx, dovecot, cyrus, clamAV, spamassin, squirrelmai) but only the setup requires some level of experitse with these.
If you cant afford the three kings of groupware and you dont have the skills to setup a pure OSS mail system, then MDaemon may be the best bet.

This is a very good mail server. The best that I have seen. But the memory usage of the MDaemon service exceeds 40MB. When I terminated this service, my system memory usage was reduced by that much.

I used this server back in the day. Inexpensive, flexible and rock solid performance; what else can you ask for? Though, I'm not very fund of the new activation routine. Exchange alternative, perhaps. Maybe...

The previous poster seems to misunderstand the activation process. All it is doing is checking to ensure you're using a legally licensed registration key. They clearly state what information is transmitted, your IP, your MAC address, your license key, product version, and language. It transmits this one time, and asks you before it does it. At no time does the product "search" your system. At no point are any names, email addresses, domain names, etc. transmitted to Alt-N. Use a valid key, and it shouldn't worry you.

I am sorry to say MDaemon is no longer a viable solution for us. They surprised us with their newest feature (they actually called it that). Product Activation is being incorporated into the program. It seems they believe their right to protect their product includes tracking and searching our system which of course is out of the question.

There is just no equal to this program. Merick/Deerfield can't even compete. When it comes to hosting your own mail whether it is 10 or 10,000 users the only name to even consider is Alt-N. I have used this program for about 4 years now and they continue to improve it even when I think they have done all they can.
