Publisher's Description

Microsoft LimitLogin is an application that adds the ability to limit concurrent interactive user logons in an Active Directory domain. It can also keep track of all logins information in Active Directory domains (without necessarily enforcing logons quotas).

The challenge of limiting concurrent logons in a distributed environment is huge, and although LimitLogin is not a "bullet proof" solution to all the aspects of this challenge, many customers might still find this tool helpful, as this capability has been highly requested by different customers (banks, ISPs, libraries etc) in numerous RFPs, etc.

Since my last comment I have checked out Userlock. I also have to advise everyone to take a good at it. Besides limiting concurrent sessions, it has a lot more features than Limitlogin and is very easy to install and use. I have even found that it will work out cheaper for my network setup, as I still have a load of nt stations to manage and no 2003 dc let alone an IIS server... My thanks to Janderson!

LimitLogin is incredibly cumbersome to deploy and administer.
It:
- requires AD schema modification
- requires an IIS server
- does not come with an integrated deployer
- does not support Windows NT 4.0 domains
- does not provide E-mail and popup notifications
- does not log lock/unlock events
- does not allow you to define login limits by group
- does not allow you to customize messages displayed to users
- does not allow you to set workstation restrictions

Anyone wanting to seriously manage user sessions on a Windows network should better look at a 3rd-party tool named UserLock (http://www.userlock.com).
