This is decent AV for home users, and a strong contender for small businesses that don't care about central management of their AV apps.
One thing about Microsoft I can respect: If they don't give up, they do improve their software over time.
Let's give it a year of updates and potential false positives, before giving it a 5.

Basing your review on the size on the download isn't exactly what I call a thorough review of the product nor is it particularly useful. So I'll give it a four as well to balance up these zealots.
While I haven't tested this particular product yet. I have found similar products like Small Business Server very useful for their target market.
Problem also is product releases at MS are controlled by the marketing people who don't actually have a clue about the product they are selling so that is why you see terms like "proactive and unified" So at least I'll give that to the Linux and open source gang at least the programmer who wrote the program releases it and therefore probably knows what the damm thing does.

In 610MB you can get 610 or even more far better free applications than this POC that MS is pouring on it's followers, not to say deciples or believers. OTOH, who wants to waste some bandwidth and synapses, give it a go. You'll sober up one day sooner or later and install Linux.
edit: I apologise for my "review", I was just plain angry when I saw this 610MB "thingie". They simply cannot do an application which is small, efficiently programmed and works... this is only an administrative app for god's sake.

I hate posting without reviewing but I felt I had to give people more information. SCE combines MOM, SMS and a couple of other products together. If you follow the links on the download page you'll get to their homepage:

What is it with Microsoft and listing their tools as "freeware" when they're not? This is a 90 day trial.
According to their site: "The evaluation edition is valid for 90 days after installation."
Oh, and there's no detail about exactly what this tool does, other than "Proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and asset tracking to keep your IT environment secure and up-to-date." Great, helpful description, MS. I don't want to download a 90 day trial to find out that this is junk... just tell me already what it is!
