it's just using a loads of resources. It also makes thumbs.db's all over the place and forces back files that are archived with an archiving system (offline files). Not a very good software. Stay with Irfanview or picasca, or even better Photoshop's browse opportunity

I give it a 3 because I use this regularly on my Vista install and think it's a very nice program. However on my XP install it causes hanging, and randomly (plus on every reboot) deletes my desktop wallpaper which can then only be reaplied using Photo Gallery rather than the conventional way. Once those issues are fixed I'll recommend it.

Program is very good!!!

As for the requirements of using a Live account and Live search.... this is very similar to the requirements for Google's Picasa. So if you're comparing apples to apples (free photo editors from online services) it's not really right to discredit the software because of that.

The software may indeed be fine, where the problem lies is that in order to use it, you MUST run the MS desktop search. So you either run it alone, and have inferior search capabilities, or try to run what you normally do (in my case X1) and deal with the two engines slowing your machine considerably.

What I really hated when first downloading this (last iteration of the product) was that there was no mention of this until I saw the file download list just before the transfer started.

It would be very considerate of MS to put the fact that the Desktop Search must be run in order to have this program.

It's not for vista only, XP SP2 is also supported. Here's what I got from Microsoft website:

Operating system: Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista
Processor: Minimum 800 MHz processor
Memory: Minimum 128 MB of RAM (256 MB or more recommended)
Browser: Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later
Resolution: 800 x 600

(Windows 2003 Server (Win2K3) and Windows Vista x64 are not supported.)

Overall it's not a bad piece of software (I already hear the Microsoft haters screaming and yaling at me :) ) but it can seem a little slow on Celeron based systems with 512Mb of RAM.
