Publisher's Description
Windows Vista introduces a breakthrough user experience and is designed to help you feel confident in your ability to view, find, and organize information and to control your computing experience.
The visual sophistication of Windows Vista helps streamline your computing experience by refining common window elements so you can better focus on the content on the screen rather than on how to access it. The desktop experience is more informative, intuitive, and helpful. And new tools bring better clarity to the information on your computer, so you can see what your files contain without opening them, find applications and files instantly, navigate efficiently among open windows, and use wizards and dialog boxes more confidently.

Vista 64 SP2 does not install on Dell Inspirons with Vista 64 Sp1. Dell has no Solution, and Microsoft claims that this is a Dell issue.
CA's Security Suite does not work (it will run - but doesn't supply virus eradication) for Vista 64.
Vista 64 is so screwed up, that even Microsoft's most valued partners can't get their software or hardware to work with it. But they won't say this in public, for fear of the "Wrath of Microsoft"
Microsoft's answer is to upgrade to Windows 7...... Which, by the way, has yet to prove suitable for general distribution.

Yes the O.S. has a lot of bling going for it. But as far as function forget it. I have been tring to get my ISATAP adapter to work again. As for the last two months ever since sp2 it sits with a yellow triangle and the worst part is, It belongs to Microsoft. I have contacted two different tech @ Microsoft about this. The emails that come back from Microsoft are upbeat and wanting to help. But when I send a reply my email are now blocked. I have even resubmitted the claim and the same thing happens, Not just one email address but with all my email. I will still get a note from a tech advising to get in touch when it is convienant for me.. HA HA the jokes on me. For anyone in Vista Hell, I advise you buy Advanced Vista Optimizer from Systweaks. No this is not a pitch, But my new laptop almost became a pitch in the trash tell I started using this product. I could write about how I hate vista all night. But I think I have made my self clear. Sorry spell check is down.. Love this vista

Well, SP2 killed the ability to print. I run Vista 64 bit and after installing SP2, I could no longer print to a Canon MX 850 over wither the network or USB. Reboots, reinstalling drivers, nothing helps. Restored OS to pre SP2 and everything works again. Guess SP2 will stay hidden for another year or so until they fix it.

Good to see MS is releasing these publicly, but I think a lot of people don't understand who they're intended for.
Unless you're a beta tester, are testing the SP beta/RC in a controlled enterprise environment prior to widespread rollout, or you need it to fix a SPECIFIC bug/issue you know it will solve, just wait for the final.
There's absolutely no justification for installing the betas/RCs otherwise except perhaps for the sake of curiosity.

This is a Service Pack (updates/bug fixes etc)
I've heard good things and so far no problems.
Microsoft doesn't recommend you install this on a anything but a test system.
That being said, i like the direction 64 bit Vista is headed.

How should I install this OS??? I've downloaded an .exe file. It looks like an update... This is junk..! sucks!

I loved vista from the very beginning. But! Now I understand why some people were unpleased with vista vanilla. Vista sp1 is like a diferrent OS - so much faster, stable, etc. I did have all the separate pre-sp1 hotfixes, still sp1 makes a significant change. (I've been enjoying mine since feb, 5)

I have RC1. I purchased from Microsoft the beta and got on 2 dvd's. One 32 and one 64. I have Pavilon dv9008nr and allmost everything works. The video driver comeon dist and sound and wireless.
The HP it is lagging with relise 64 bit support. The base drivers do not work. I tryied to download the CR2 , but no luck. When goest to speed -photoshop7 operate twice faster and other graphic programs. Even my canon i9900 printer it is supported. I love 64 Vista.Just wish that HP will stop dragging the base drivers.
The link to download for CR2 do not work.

If you have a 64-bit CPU, then you should use 64-bit Vista.
64-bit XP wasn't a mainstream OS, so people are now a little hesitant to go 64-bit Vista.
Zackajaweea reviewed vRC2 Build 5744 on Oct 7, 2006
Why do people keep saying not to run x64. I have installed x64 on plenty of computers with little to no driver issues. It even sees my ATI HDTV all-in-wonder. It runs faster and is more secure.
This must be due to ignorance of a product. Why don't you try it? I am not kidding when I say, I run it on multiple machines:
HP Laptop
Toshiba Laptop
2 HP machines
1 Generic
Dell XPS

***Update***
Two points:
1) Unfortunately, my comment regarding Microsoft selling 32-bit and 64-bit together wasn't quite true. The confusion stems from the fact that Microsoft is shipping every Vista version on the same disc, however the license will dictate.
2) It is still recommended that people stick with 32-bit Vista. You can google for the Paul Thurrott site or easily google for "64-bit Vista" and find lots of information on the current state of drivers for 64-bit Vista. Also important is that many programs (including games) use a 16-bit piece of software as part of the installation that 64-bit Vista no longer supports.
3) Benchmarking shows no advantage even for software written for 64-bit.
4) However, 64-bit will eventually replace 32-bit so what to do? I've decided to purchase Vista OEM 64-bit and dual-boot it alongside my 32-bit XP.
My advice to XP users is to hold off for a while. In fact, DirectX 10 for gaming may be the only really important reason for gamers to upgrade. Most games' FPS's (Frames Per Second) are around 85% running under Vista but approximately 95% is expected.
Previous comment:
"Nobody should be using 64-bit Vista unless you are coding for it.
There is even less 64-bit support by other software and drivers for Vista than there is in XP. I would not install 64-bit Vista until at least 2008 likely but simply writing down your apps and drivers and checking how the support is every two months (starting 2007) is a good way to go.
Luckily, 32-bit and 64-bit Vista is sold together (maybe even on the same disc), so the painful decision of which version to get is gone. I don't think you can upgrade directly from Vista x86 to Vista x64 but it would be nice. (hopefully they'll make it happen in 2008)"

I couldn't find it before, but when I went to the MS Vista Preview site, I went to download from THAT page, and then kicked me here and also to a registration page that gives you your key.
So basically:
http://www.microsoft.com...a/getready/preview.mspx
Go down to the download section, select your country, and bingo.
HTH.

Everyone using a download manager (specifically dta) I had to download Vista x64 3 times cause the download manager botched it. Otherwise Vista is nice at first glance. Long install on both computers, graphics are beautiful, sound support was however not so impressive (no sound for ati chipsets, and my realtek wont detect 7 out of 8 jacks) Pretty idiot proof install, and nice recovery options. I'm not trying to give Microsoft an easy pass, but even with all the features being gutted from Vista the average user will enjoy their experience.

Having problems dowloading with IE 6 or 7? Use FireFox instead and you'll get the whole file. For some reason, IE can't handle such a large download. Go MS. :~)

Steve1077...
THE FILE IS NOT 13.7MB. Your browser/FS is broke. If it was only 13.7MB, can you explain why I'm currently at 3663MB of 4109.7MB from the same link?
steve1077 reviewed vBeta 2 on Jun 8, 2006
Like it's been said the file is only 13mb, and I'm not using a download manager, even if I was getright is downloading the 32bit version which is over 3gb with no problems, oh and I'm running XP 64 and using the 64 bit browser, even then I only get a 13.7mb CD file

Nice to be able to try a legit version, but I would have thought that using Torrents would have solved a lot of the bandwidth issues.

It's 13.7 mb because the download manager your using sucks and only supports 32 bit files (4 gb). This file happens to be 4 gb + 13.7 mb. Try a real download manager.

I do not get this everyone on the speaking planet trying to get this no bandwidth no redundacy download servers.
Next MSDN subscribers can not download this with thier MSDN accounts. The links for it on the MSDN site goes in loops back to nothing but mindgames.
Next the 64 bit version comes down as mentioned 13.8 megs? this is suppose to be if you have your own download manager.
Microsoft uses 3rd party services to get it rather then a http and ftp?
What is going on here?
The 32 bit stalls after only 2 megs of the image comes down, and it has been this way for over 8 hours.
Come on some one get on the ball. This is not right Microsoft I can not believe you can not have a simple click here and away goes the iso rather then having to navagate through morons are us menus on pages no one checks.
No one has read the MSDN message boards except for other MSDN
siryak reviewed vBeta 2 on Jun 7, 2006
Alright its finally here downloading now!!!
Edit: Ok why is this file only 13.7mb??? Something isn't right here.
