Publisher's Description
Mmm FREE is a unique utility to configure your Windows menus. Remove menu-items you never use. Put rarely used functions out on a sub-menu. Keep only those functions you often use in a small, tidy base menu. Configuration is very simple, just drag and drop the menu-items where you want them to go.

Thanks, stisev for informing from "shellmenuview" and "shellexview". They are much lighter and effective.

The install program of mmm is being recognized as a virus by Kaspersky Antivirus. Thats enough reason for me to not use it at all.

Must have for people who like to have things the way they like, and i like to have everything the most essential possible.
Some people say it loads too much on RAM, it's 648k on my system now.
I have noticed that it flashes as many times it removes some menu, before freezing the final menu, kinda annoying since you have to wait.
Orbitration reviewed v2.02 on Jul 25, 2005
Very useful program, very.
You can opt to turn off "Auto-check for updates", by the way, under Options.
thedax reviewed v2.02 on Jun 29, 2005
The idea is ok, but I was quite upset with the fact that the program tried to check for an update without even warning me. And in a totally wrong fashion - it won't just try to connect once in a while, let's say once every hour or so: it will hammer the TCP/IP stack with endless queries until it can connect.
I don't think I'm a smart coder, but aggressively polling a resource is quite a dumb practice, especially for such an unimportant process like mmm.
Fix the thing and come back with a better version.

A great program that doesnt leave you searching for keys in the registry, although it does take up a whopping (sarcasm) 1720K with the pre 2.2 release.
My only gripe is that the Mmm strip isnt a part of the menu and with menu delay turned low in XP, often I cannot get to context menus when they open on the left side instead of the right side...

haceus,
Your program is actually pretty decent, but as most end-users can attest to, we don't like runnign extra processes in the background.
mmm Free takes 11+ mb of RAM. This figure is outrageous given it's remarkably limited function.
Personally, if you could find a way to remove the context menus altogether WITHOUT having to run a porgram, I'd pay $15-20 for such a thing. I'm sure others would, too.

Hi guys.
I am the author of Mmm FREE. Glad to see so many people liking the program.
To a couple of reoccuring points in your posts:
Mmm does not spy or 'phone home'. It is looking for an update of itself. If this scares you, turn off the option "Auto-check for update".
Some menu-items can be permanently removed (even while Mmm is not running). For other menu-items there is no straightforward way of permanently removing them. If this feature will be (partially) supported in the future, it will be in Mmm+.
Note also that Mmm+ requires a lot less memory/resources to run. There has to be some incentive to get the + version. Can't give it all away for free. ;)
Cheers!

I emailed the author and he/she said 'not possible' or something to that extent. Which sounds like an excuse to me (don't mean to sound harsh, my appologies). There is definately a way to make the items removed stay removed when the program is shut down.

Just another program to have running on every boot & therefore hogging system resourses...
Find a way to make the menu options stick even when the program itself is not open, and you've got yourself a 5 star program.
ComradeF reviewed v2.0 on May 18, 2005
Orbitration's right, it works just fine. I'm running an AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz, 1 GB SDRAM, and Windows XP SP2... no problems whatsoever. The program is slick and effective. And whoever said "this program is so useless there isn't even a crack for it yet" -- maybe because it's FREE. And why does it try to phone home, you ask? Well, it's a little thing called "Auto-check for updates", which can be disabled if you take the time to open the program and click Options...
Polychronopolis reviewed v2.0 on May 18, 2005
I couldn't possibly agree with Orbitration more. My PC is running XP SP2 on a laptop with a Centrino 1.8 processor and this new version runs just fine..
My memory usage is 832KB.. Extremely acceptable in my opinion.
My only gripe is that I wish the "Rarely used" and Mmm config options would be at the bottom of the list.. I use the arrow keys alot and find it irritating that these items are the top two options.
Orbitration reviewed v2.0 on May 18, 2005
Hmmm. I'm running SP2 on an AMD64 system and I don't have any problems with this program at all. In fact I like it a LOT.
There was an earlier version that would disappear at reboot, and I contacted the guy, and he actually wrote back, and actaully fixed the issue.
At the moment, I'm showing exactly 1 meg of usage and 0% cpu cycles.... so I'm thinking you folks who are having issues may have OTHER issues besides this little thing.
Personally, it's VERY handy being able to move any and all of the right click functions to an inner shell click.
my dos centavos

My firewall got it trying to access the net without permission. Can't see any reason why this type of program needs to call home.

90% plus? what do you have like 5 megs of ram? Prog is great except for always running thing.

That utility is so useless and unpopular. There is no crack for it yet :(
Kylde reviewed v1.99b5 on May 4, 2005
hogs my cpu at 90%+ sometimes, plus always running

the purpose of reviewing and scoring on here is so that the software reflects the users' opinions on how well the program does what it is designed to do. if you haven't tried the program, giving it a "neutral" score of three is completely ignorant.
CyberDoc999 reviewed v1.99b4 on May 2, 2005
I would also like that it allowed the items to dissapear (when you disable them) even when you don't have mmm running as a task.
that green bar on the side of the new mmm task just gets in my way (way too often)
dzjepp reviewed v1.99b4 on Apr 27, 2005
Great concept, I would like that it allowed the items to dissapear (when you disable them) even when you don't have mmm running as a task. Just so it enables the setting permanently is all. I usually try to slim down on apps running 24/7
I wouldn't need the fancy sub-menus, just if the items I checked dissapeared for good. If they enabled this in the pay version I would probably get it.
oomingmak reviewed v1.99b4 on Apr 27, 2005
Wow, I have been looking for a utility like this for AGES.
I haven't tried it yet, but functionally it looks like just what I need.
I hope that the stability problems (mentioned by another poster) are not too severe.
@ tasty: "why the hell would you rate an application you haven't even tried?"
Because you can't post a comment without giving a rating value (Duh!) hence "neutral" score of 3 (until I have had enough time to test it properly).
yokozuna reviewed v1.99b4 on Apr 27, 2005
The idea is very good, the problem is that my computer runs 24/7 and Mmm always crashes after 24 hours or so. I have to reboot to make it work.

BAHHHHHHH...payware!
3/5!!!!
kbsoftware reviewed v1.99b on Apr 19, 2005
I'm looking into all what the + version has, might buy it.
A program that has been long overdue.
Tokar reviewed v1.99b on Apr 18, 2005
Excellent idea...absolutely excellent.
And its free...
Now...all the software needs now is to incorporate itself into Internet Explorer context menus...because surely, if you are running the software your Internet Explorer context menus are hella-long and full of stuff you THINK you need but never use.
ComradeF reviewed v1.99b on Apr 18, 2005
Wow. This is NICE. Finally get to remove those stupid WMP context menu additions.
CGA reviewed v1.99b on Apr 18, 2005
This one I have been waiting for, earlier version (context menu freak) stoped working for me after upgrading to sp2. Perfect program for cutting down those context menus that tends to fill the whole screen.
