Publisher's Description
PearPC is an architecture-independent PowerPC platform emulator capable of running most PowerPC operating systems, such as Mac OS X, Darwin and Linux. It is released under the GPL. It can be executed on Microsoft Windows, Linux and other systems based on POSIX-X11.
PearPC is currently in development and is advancing quickly in speed, stability and features. It is hoped to achieve the goal of 1/10 host speed, ie. the speed of a 300 MHz PowerPC G3 on a 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4, relatively soon.

Fairly good app, but still a lot of work to do. If only one of the main coders hadn't died.
For those that are saying that they will wait for the Intel version of OSX - it's only going to run on Apple hardware with Apple's security chip in it.

Sweet! This is a much awaited release! And for those of you saying "oh, wait for the Intel Mac...". I'm certainly not going to - they have all sort of protections for it. By helping this project (which happens to be opensource) you could help in the eventuall emulation of Mac x86 - if this even happens.
So until the Intel Mac debuts (and you won't be able to run it on your PC legally and without alot of trouble). I would say PearPC is awesome. Even on my Intel Centrino 1.6 Ghz proc.
So stop complaining about this project and notice the extraordinary time and effort the developers have put into this project. And the huge barriers they have overcome (especially in cross-platform hardware support).
And if you think this is not fast enough don't worry - there will be many modified versions of this (with fixes, of course).
P.S. to all of you with bad reviews because of previous experiences and word of mouth: Try it. It won't hurt, and you'll be suprised at the huge improvement. You will even find that many of the steps outlined in guides will not be neccessary and you can install tiger straight from your DVD drive.

This app was a good idea, but I agree with some of the other posts that its time is kinda past.
They simply took too long to get this emulator up to speed, and now there is an Intel verison of OS10 which runs at 100% speed, so the time for this app is rapidly running out.
I gave up on this over a year ago, (because of slow speed) and now I simply VNC over to an old G3 we have laying around the office if I ever have to test any Mac issues.

just because you think it hasn't much sense, the app itself doesn't necassarily have to be bad, has it?
anyway,
i think it's a great emulator; helped me many times using some little tools only available for mac...(even though it isn't very usable with really big apps)

Not used this app but I have used Basillisk emulator to run OS8 for a long time which If you want an emu that runs well and performs the job of the whole OS check it out (requires HW Rom file and an OS CD).
With regard to PearPC I have to ask 'Why bother?'
With Apple switching to an Intel Processor etc it won't be long before you will be able to run a Mac OS on your PC.

Actually as of 0.40 it is no longer necessary to use an ISO image; it can be installed directly from the CD-ROM now. They have also added G4 emulation in this release among many other things. The complete change log is available on their home page.

Great software.
It requires that you have OSX cds in hand. You have to have the cds in ISO format to load into the program.
HD space requirements are kinda large. If you have OSX 10.1 or 10.2 you can get by with the 3GB base image. If you want 10.3 or 10.4 I would suggest at least the 6GB image.
Then add in the isos...which are 600-700MB each.
Its a little sluggish since you arent running the OS natively, but it will run more applications than OSX x86 (developer CD) will run at this point. It also has networking...
