Publisher's Description

PhotoFiltre is a complete image retouching program. It allows you to do simple or advanced adjustments to an image and apply a vast range of filters on it. It is simple and intuitive to use, and has an easy learning curve. The toolbar, giving you access to the standard filters with just a few clicks, gives it a robust look.

Excellent graphics editor. Does 90% of what PhotoShop does at 10% of the program size. Extra point for being a no install portable program. I almost took a point off for the TWAIN interface not playing nice with Win 7 X64, but was able to run it successfully as an XP app. I hope it will be made fully compatible soon. 1/2 point off, still a great program!

Nice, but Brian, much of the development has gone into Photofiltre Studio, where all the new goodies can be found.

It does what it claims to do, and very well. It's actually fun to use.

Despite the fact that I am a die-hard Photoshop CS2/CS3 fan, I've been trying VERY hard to use this program for all of my graphical needs.

PhotoFiltre is just one of those programs that you love when you first open the program. Why do I love it so much?

1) It's "holy mother of god" fast! Unlike Photoshop, which has become painfully slow, PhotoFiltre retains it's speed

2) PhotoFiltre stores settings in .ini file

3) PhotoFiltre is available via .ZIP file (just extract and go!)

4) It's free! PhotoFiltre is obviously free, which adds to its appeal tremendously

5) PhotoFiltre is powerful. Once you get to know how to use the program, it's a wonderful

You can use Irfan View and Photofiltre together. In Irfan View, go to Options/Properties, choose the Misc. 2 tab and select Photofilter as your external editor. The result is powerful and fast. You can use the external editor option in the Files drop down menu or add "Open with external editor" and a bunch of other features to the mouse context menu by checking "Use context menu for mouse (default scrolling)" box in the Misc 1 tab.

For basic "one click" edits - I'll use Photofiltre before I bother with Photoshop or Fireworks.
Only a pity Irfan View and Photofiltre couldnt get together for the best of each.
Free, stable, big toolbox - a winner.

This is the perfect program when you just don't feel like loading Photoshop. I tried some of the options and it was very easy to use. The only glitch I got was with the "Rotate Free" control. For some reason the window that pops up with the angle selection wouldn't close after the rotation was done. Now it seems to be working properly. Even so I still give it a 5. I have to agree with Midiaa about PhotoFiltre and IrfanView being the perfect pair.

cricri_pingouin

cricri_pingouin reviewed v6.2.6 on Oct 9, 2006

This tool is very good! I would potentially prefer Paint .Net in terms of functionality, but this one is small and doesn't use .Net, which makes it portable. It thus resides on my pen drive.
Of course, I'd like to give it a 5, but clearly there are much more powerful out there. I'm tempted to mention PhotoShop and the magnetic lasso, but I'm sure I'd be told that I'm asking too much! Basic stuff like rotating text without having to convert it to a raster layer would be nice for instance.

One of the best proofs that applications small in size and freeware can be much better than all those with already established reputation but often bloated and overpriced.
There is some room for improvement like the variable sensitivity of slider regulations, but overall the program is a gem.

Programs like this should be built-in into windows, instead of paint crap.

This is one of the best photo editing programs out there. I removed all of my other photo editing apps and just use PhotoFiltre alone now. One nice trick is to add a shortcut to PhotoFiltre under your "Send To" folder in Windows. Then you can right-click on photos and choose "Send To - PhotoFiltre"! For the size of this program, I'm constantly amazed at how the authors can keep adding more and more incredible features. These people need to show Adobe and others a thing or two!

This is one SERIOUSLY good program. Low on resource usage, functional, fast and does a LOT of neat stuff. Also very intuitive. I was searching for a program which would take a GIF and turn certain areas transparent. Found this program, downloaded, installed and basically discovered how to do what I wanted in about 10 seconds, no exaggeration.

BUT does anyone know how to move stuff around, I cant figure it out-- i select an area and try to move it, all that moves is the selection rectangle (crawling ants). but the pixels do not move. Can anyone help me? tnx!!

PhotoFiltre has a superb set of effects. for those are not closer to make graphics, as i am not, this package represents a discovery! i can implement a lot of 'cool things' with no knowledge. low footprint and fast rendering. it supports plugins, they are very intersting; supports 8bf too.

Great Freeware. Should satisfy the photo editing needs of all but the most demanding users. It has a PhotoShop-like interface and is very easy to use. The program is small, light, and portable, so it can be run from a USB flash drive. It has no registry or Windows bloat. I think PhotoFiltre is the best freeware photo editor.

babyapartnership

babyapartnership reviewed v6.0 on Jul 22, 2004

Excellent image editor with a mulitlingal interface and powerful tools, but poor image managment tools. However Babya Photo Workshop is more powerful than PhotoFiltre (especially if used with bPicture for digital asset management) and both can share images created in each application well.

For those who cannot afford Photoshop, this will fit the bill nicely. Has a great deal of features and filters to give your photos whatever look you desire.

bobad

bobad reviewed v6.0 on Jul 2, 2004

In a word, this program is excellent. It has all but the most advanced features, and will fit the bill for 95% of graphics editing. This is really astounding for such a small program. PhotoFiltre is very well thought out and easy to use, and the tools work logically and well. I have yet to run across anyone that doesn't think this little program is excellent. Get it and you may want to uninstall the huge PS, PSP, Gimp, Dogwaffle, Etc.
