Plato Audio Recorder records audio from an external source and writes it directly to an mp3 file. It is not like other applications which record into a memory/file buffer and requires you to then export it, doing the conversion after you record, which can be a time consuming process.

This is a wonderful item. Makes a great recording with no muss or fuss. No frills. I'm afraid support for it has been discontinued by the author because the linked page returns a 404 error. Download it now from the FF/BN server while you still can. Someday you may want it, and it won't be available.
