After trying so many, I find this one best.
Lite, objective and powerful, hopefully it will stay like that and not go bloated like most other softwares.

It seems to work on Windows 7 x64 but my only question is 'Is it better than Norton 360 version 4 's firewall?

Actually JackRegan it's a very good firewall.A few friends have installed it without hassle, IMHO I recommend it.

JackRegan:- I must say your posts are most enlightening. Do you feel it lifts to to the dizzy heights of some kind of wise sage with your enigmatic pointless stupid posts that tell us nothing.

I was using Comodo into which I typed URLs I wanted blocked and it failed each one. Privatefirewall simply did as it was asked so it is a permanent switch for me

It's a good Firewall with good reports from highly reputable security sites. It is not 'Rouge Ware' & contains no spy-ware. I wish reviewers would actually try the software before dreaming up statements such as 'maybe it's rouge ware'. Well maybe it's not.

its console is all most the same with webroot firewall..... not a good choice for a personal firewall. maybe its a rouge ware.

anomoly - it scored a 9/10. Regardless, that site is in the business of pushing software it has a referral partnership with.

PFW's latest version is one of the lightest combined firewall/HIPS that I know of. Over & above its straightforward classic-type HIPS, PFW includes a "system anomaly monitor" (formerly called "Dynamic Security Agent") that will spot certain malware activities that are not covered by any other HIPS now extant.

However, I rated PFW at only 4-stars because it is weak against the keylogger-genre. Ergo, added protection is needed for that risk if one is to use PFW. Keylogger protection can be had from apps such as Spyshelter, Zemana Anti-log, & Prevx SafeOnline.

If you check
http://www.matousec.com/...y-challenge/results.php
Private = 74% score opposed to comodo's 100%
Comodo free is at the top of the list above all others. Only problem is the actual configuring of comodo is a nightmare!!. PC Tools has a terrible score (51%) but is the only one that just plain works period.
Agnitum wants you to buy something first. lol
Online armor is junk and this one is junk also. junk junk junk

What is : Install Vauld Free Edion ID in the setup? I dissabled it. Firewall it self is ok.
It has also a option to prevent tools from loading. If you for instance do not give winrar permission to load it wont work at all. Safety first but i think you might want to disable this feature! This option is more then you asked for...

Firewall Works great......
and it is free !
the HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System)
is Lame.....
I tested it on 5 differents programs and it blocked none of them....
HIPS that worked would make this a killer app

I liked privatefirewall and the way it works but I don't like it's useage of memory. It starts out at about 25,000K and grows gradually from there. I'd hate to be gone for a few days and find my computer frozen from lack of memory. I can't stay around all the time monitoring the usage of memory. If they can address this problem they'll have an excellent product in my book. I was ready to pay for it but I can't accept the memory problem (zonealarm has a similar problem). A few other firewalls stay at around 20,000K and some others seem to "flush out" whatever is not needed when you show the main screen and then reduce them to the tray. The only way to do that with this product is shutdown the firewall and then reinitiate it. As a firewall it seems to work great.

Private Firewall (PFW) is a highly ranked firewall, based on actual tests HERE, and HERE.

Better yet, PFW's built-in "Dynamic Security Agent" is a truly excellent HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System). DSA features the following layers of defense technology:

- Application Monitor/Manager
- Registry Monitor
- Process Monitor/Manager
- Email Anomaly Analyzer/Manager
- System Anomaly Analyzer

DSA also detects malware and intrusions based on behaviors characteristic of unauthorized system use. Some of these include:

- Attempts to access a protected registry area
- Attempts to access a protected object
- Attempts to Initiate a foreign process
- Attempts to control Windows service
- Attempts to create a DNS request
- Attempts to initiate outgoing TCP traffic
