RAM Idle will increase your performance by making more physical memory available for your system. This program automatically frees up a set amount of RAM and defragments it when a minimum of free RAM is reached. RAM Idle ensures your application load time will be quicker and more responsive.

These programs are all snake oil and actually REDUCE performance. Avoid at all costs! Anyone who claims these improve performance in anyway have no concept how Windows Memory Management works.

Uh, it does more than display RAM, MrCodeDude. Have you looked at the configuration? It deserves praise. I like how it automatically adjusts cache settings, optimizations, and such.

I don't think this program did anything for my machine, it just displayed how much RAM I did have available. And once it crashed, it led me onto a horror story. I unistalled my recently downloaded Ad Killers and most previous installed programs. Other that that, installation and uninstallation is fine. I don't see any OnFlow files in my machine, so this little program doesn't seem to do anything except display how much RAM you have avaiable.

IT'S THE POWERFULL AND WONDERFULL UTILITY SOFTWARE.
YOU CAN SAVE YOUR MEMORY FOR OTHER APPLICATION.
BUT NO GOOD FOR GAMES APPLICATION. YOU MUST DISABLE THIS PROGRAM WHEN YOU LAUNCH 3D GAMES.

On-flow sneaks in with seveal programs including the latest version of NetCaptor. It's fairly harmless though. To remove it, do a find files for "onflow". The uninstall will show as well as the main folder and two DLL files in the Exlporer plug-ins directory. Run the uninstall, then delete the onflow directory. Restart your system and delete the .dll files. That's it. A pain, but doable

Beware, the latest beta of ram idle's installer has a option to install the "onflow" player. I maid the mistake of installing it. THe onflow player is a set of IE plugins that display advertising. After I installed Ram Idle, Onflow was trying to access the internet, and was setting off alarms on my firewall. When you try to uninstall Onflow, it says it needs IE and "Windows Explorer" to be shut down, and if you use explorer.exe for your shell, you pretty much screwed like I am. Beware before you install.

Honestly, on my Windows ME box with 128MB RAM, I can't tell much difference in my system's speed, although it does leave me with generally a lot more free resources. In games though, I have noticed some hookups and freezes, although there is an option to have the program automatically disable itself when the CPU is under a high load.

I gave RAM Idle a try, but it seemed to do absolutely nothing for my Windows Me box. The only thing it may have done was make my system a little unstable.

I do not recommend using this program with WinME.

I normally use Freemem pro but thought I would give this one a whirl, since it is free. The interface is very good and cache management integration is a great idea. HOWEVER, I use Windows ME and the program worked well initially. However, when I run Napster with it the computer hangs. The only option is to close it using Alt Shift Delete. Having said that, the program worked really well at other times!

this is a great program, i've installed it on 3 win98 systems (laptops, celeron400, 96mb ram) and you could notice the difference. i have yet to try this on my win2k box... i have had to disable this progam to play old win9x games (mainly kings quest vii, my girlfriend was playing that, and it would crash when ramidle was running). otherwise great program!

Running resource meter, you have 3 types of resources:
System, User and GDI. Which of these 3 does RamIdle free (if any?). I find myself running out of resources (specifically, windows says there's not enough free RAM) even though RamIdle reports over 100mb free and I have 384 in total.

Well i do not have any reall problem with it in my Win2k system.
But one thing that i notice is that my system slow down with it , at any open-close software , i can listen hard disk activity ,more than the usual .
And the programs take some more time to load .
I have 256 MBs SDRAM , so i do not know were is the problem .
With out it ,i am fine ..

This is a very good program. It works with Windows Me. Only problem I've actually come across (my own stupidity) was when I manually set virtual memory settings, and then was running Ram Idle. I would always get memory access violations. :) I recomend this to everyone.

It's easy to install, it's easy to understand, it's easy to impliment, it's easy to ignore and let it do it's thing. M$ should study this program for it's "user friendlyness" instead of pictures of clouds.

It just plain works!
