This software was great until they got greedy. I no longer recommend this anywhere. Paint.NET is growing in popularity.

Pros:
Easy To Use.

Timesaving way to quickly color images.

Cons:
Images look flat and lack convincing tones & shading.

Better results can be achieved with minimal effort by using free painting programs such as Irfanview or Paint.NET.

Horrendously overpriced. This application is a one-trick-pony. Expecting people to pay $49 for such a featureless program is laughable.

I rate this version only 3 because, even if this software is great, innovative and quite unique (unless you're an expert in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop) I dislike that the author made users test and debug its software with time limited versions and then charge them 49$ which is IMHO a too high price for such a specialized software...

It's a pity... really...

A few reviews earlier I had mentioned that we were being treated as Guinea Pigs and someone came back to post with examples that it need not necessairly be true!

However good the program is, I dislike authors who claim their work is free and get all the testing done only to charge them later!

I've not given it 1 cause, its only the attitude I dislike!

Still miss features that I should expect to be essential in a good shareware version. For the $$, asking 45 dollars for this little tool - that tells a story in itself about the developers. So while its lacking essential features - especially for a shareware version, and then is far too high priced. After testing the version 1, I hit some bottons and uninstalled the previous freeware version I had of Recolored ...

Did not believe until I tried it. Installed in a jiffy and was up and coloring B&W pictures in the next 5 minutes. Just Superb!

As an amature in photo editing i've colored 20 to 30 pictures now with recolored and it works great. I've been wating for a program like this for the past couple of years. I also can't wait for the 1.0 version to come out.

The speed has increased significantly from 0.60 to 0.70. I am looking forward to future releases of this product.

As a graphic designer this is the best for pictures. What this program does in minutes takes me hours of retouching. I can wait for 1.0. I have used this on serval pieces and they have all looked good yes you still need to do a little cleanup in photoshop.

My only complaint is the CPU stress I have a 2.8 p4 with 1gig ram and it still takes a few minutes to render 1000 x 1200 picture.

I think it was ok, thought it was a lil hard to use, like what tool do you trace a face with do you need to pick color first? I did like the premade color selection on the right.
and the picture in the example above is fake, more or less was color then converted to a black and white. Them plastick balls came out in the 80s lol

jogygeorge: Paint.net, a program that will forever remain freeware, has that practice.

This program works great! Just trace white around someone's black suit(no alterations), then trace some blue in the background and pink on the skin, and voila, you have a coloured up face, a blue wall, and a black suit!

Also, to anyone wondering, the "Color Replacer" Tool functions more like a floodfill.

First, to "jogygeorge". As we evaluate beta-ware here and it’s not a freeware only site that is not really an issue although I agree that it would be a pity - LOL. Still, many developers just keep that option to have testers follow up with new development, and others do it with a "split" - fee for professional use and free for personal use. Last is very fair. Then to the program: I downloaded this before it was any comments here, and have been pondering on what to write / add comments / ever since. I come up with two points. A. This is not a program only to colorize old B/W photos, but to add a different life to new photos. First turn the new photos into B/W and then put them in this program. As this would be my first type of use for a program like this, would it not be an idea to have a "turn photo into B/W" option be great? Okay, we can use another program to do so - but it's so close to its range of use that for me at least that would be a great option to have included. SECONDLY, and most IMPORTANT, and the reason I give it a four star (in fact a four and a half, but with the positive feedback here the developers can afford my four star rating - LOL). What I REALLY misses is an option to have an "OPACITY" option to the colour you use. Lets say I find a great red I will use, but I don’t want it as strong, then I could choose opacity of lets say 35% rather than full strength of that colour. If that option was included I would instantly be addicted to this program, still, all in all a GREAT program!

This is Great Software for Quick Colorization of pics. :D

Keith to color a B/W picture

1. Use Tools->Freehand.
2. Mark you areas
3. Use Tools->Colorize

And like Magic you have a colorized picture.

It changes the colour but seems to paint over thereby losing the texture

Scanning a black and white photo as a colour image then using photoshop elements or similar allows for colour change while retaining the original textures

It's hard not to like this piece of software. Not something I'd use very often, but a great way to mess around with images.

It takes an image and allows you, with a few roughly placed strokes of colour, to colorize the whole thing in the various colours you have chosen for each region. Remarkable! So remarkable in fact that one wonders why major photo-editing packages don't offer such a feature already. Certainly you can get similar results in Photoshop et al, using their Colorize features, but not with such ridiculous ease, and not with the single-shot approach, automated region detection and multiple colour application that this utility offers. Even my dear old grandmother could do it!

The UI is understated and professional, with appropriate used of meaningful icons and controls. Everything is straightforward and easy to follow. However, anyone familiar with Paintshop will recognise some uncannily similar looking icons here and there. Hmm, maybe they are fishing for Corel to buy it and add it to Paintshop?

The product website has a somewhat spartan look at the moment, but (I may be wrong here) they seem to have bought www.colored.com AND www.coloured.com and look like offering it in English and German.

The only thing I'd add to the product is a language database so the UI works in any language (and let the users edit it themselves and post the results for everyone to use). This often helps small utilities gain a wider userbase, and it is usually relatively cost-free for the developer.

Damn fine program. Read the help -- there's a short thing on how to color a beach ball. Take 2 minutes and read it, and you're a pro.

Awesome results! Try using smaller size pics first, so the long render isn't bad.

Wow, that's really cool! This is just perfect for a christmas present I'm giving something! Thanks a ton!

Note: It seems to base it on pixel RGB values somewhat. For a greyscale 8bit image with many overlapping values, I had to paint large areas different colours - for example, the light wall in the background quite matched skin colour, which resulted in a pink wall or white skin unless I painted both with pink and white.

Didn't look at the examples, but still really really cool!

I hope they add PNG support to it, since anyone doing this stuff and needing 100% quality is going to be saving their work in tiny PNG's.

THis actually works really well. There are a few examples included which quickly show what it can do. One of the examples quickly turns a black&white WW2 photo into crisp colors.

I give it a 5 out of 5, great potential and will be a blessing for people who actually own black&white photos.
