Publisher's Description
RemotelyAnywhere is a small HTTP daemon that must be installed on a Windows NT computer. You can then access that computer over the network via TCP/IP from any other machine capable of running a browser. You'll be able to manage services, processes, users, files. It empowers you with remote control, remote booting, etc. And best of all, you don't need any sort of special client software, apart from a javascript-enabled browser.
Workstation Edition helps system administrators keep IT systems up and computer users happy by offering the industry's richest remote-support toolkit. Support staff can often detect, diagnose, and solve problems faster than local support using built-in operating system functions. Background access means the user need not be interrupted during the implementation of solutions.

First of all this is not freeware - there is the standard version that has an expiration date (update: I see the fileforum changed the description).
Secondly, this is not "the best remote application" it is merely a centralized gui for putty, VNC, pcAnywhere, etc - you need to buy license and install all the other third party remote software in order to make it work. For instance, you need pcAnywhere which makes me wondering why paying 3am Labs Ltd. for something you already have.
If for instance you are only using free remote solution (putty, VNC, RDC) then I suggest trying mRemoteNG, which is open source and truly freeware.
I only see corporate users interested in this and I will rate it 4 stars for the nice interface tough.

This is a best remote aplication to exist to day, remember that.

Giving this one a 3. It works as it should, but it's not freeware either. Cost 100 bucks and add another 200 if you want the server edition. If I was going to pay for such a tool, pcAnywhere has a LOT more features and if you ask me, a MUCH better piece of software. VNC of course is still freeware and logmein has become quite popular and also has a freeware version.

Great app but I really like www.logmein.com I have the free version and it rocks.

Don't you love it when dipwads like bugmenot rate software based on some fanboy love of some other app they have an unfathomable crush on. You ever try RemotelyAnywhere? No- but that would probably be asking too much.
RA has always been rock-solid. The company I work for has been using it for years without a hitch. Full featured, almost to a fault.

Best RA app, in my opinion.

I personally have not had any problems with this software... ever.

only reason worth using instead of vnc or remotelyanything is it's built in auto http tunneling which allows a no hassle way for remoting behind proxy and firewalls. remotelyanything requires you to go through its seperat directory server and doesn't have a way to access through a browser although it is smaller and faster.

I have to say that version 5 is a big jump for RemotelyAnywhere. Not only did they come up with eye pleasing look, they also provided the links to RemoteControl and FileTranfer on the left (two of my most used links). They also provided an option to not ask the interactive user, which comes in handy for me becuz no one else uses my server. The FileTransfer Applet has finally evolved too and there are lots of other nifty features like sending emails when IP changes amoung other things. THe only downside is that it's still not free of course. I'm looking forward to see how they price their three different versions.

Actually, there are alternatives - Tightvnc has some of the features that RA supplies. However, RA is faster and gives the user much more flexibilty when it comes to managing a server (or whatever) remotely. This is probably the best option there is right now if you need a web interface. The downside is partly that it is a bit pricy - $99 is far to expensive for an average user - and that it still is somewhat buggy; the SSL stopped working after a couple of weeks and it crashed my computer when changing the resolution for better speed. With that said, RA is functionality-wise the best web interfaced remote admin tool on the market right now, and even without optimizing the graphics it's actually still surprisingly fast.

To the "airhead" below that gave the poor rating and said that this program is NOT as good as Remote Administrator, take note to this:
Can you access a remote computer from ANY computer with a web browser, WITHOUT installing a client application ... using Remote Administrator?
Don't you think that it would be very UN-secure to go from machine to machine installing clients just to access the server machine?

Packet SNiffer simply spits forth alot of raw data, and one obviously needs to know what he's doing to derive any use from this program. Most people do not have time to study a program such as this to see if it would benefit them. Most of us already have firewalls, and most of us hate Zone alarm because it's defective. Here's what the average person needs to know: 1. Is MS or any of your installed software trying to scan your system? 2. Is MS or any of your installed software phoning home? 3. The ability to CLAMP the bas****s without disabling normal port function or permanently disabling cable modem as in ZA. (bobad@charter.net)

a little pricy for home users but still alot less than pcAnywhere and similar and it works so much faster than any over VPN program i have used for remote access desktop. It is very very good. I am thinking about buying it but i dislike the way you only get updates for 30days after purchase unless you get the update insurence at an extra £15. Still great program, i am seriously thinking of buying this as it is a very easy way for me to bypass the lock EDS have put in place at my work and as i can customise the port it uses and runs in any browser it is great! It has some great extras fully working ftp server with all the extra like upload/download quotas, http server, telnet server and has ssl for secure connections. The best bit though is just how fast the remote control access is for the desktop, it is amazing!

Not a bad program at all. There is a bug that will cause your port forwarding settings to disappear if you use the back button on the "Add" a setting screen. This happens even if you save the settings. So be careful if you use this feature.

Performance in the latest beta release has greatly improved. My favorite function is the ablity to remotely install and uninstall. I don't have to pre-install or go out the PC that I need to remote control first to install the app like Radmin. It has telnet, FTP, file transfer, shutdown and even SSL for those concerned about remote control security.

All of you who give this program a poor rating have either not used this software to its full potential or don't administer any servers. with RemotelyAnywhere, you can control your machine through a WEB-BASED interface .. with RAdmin or any other sort of Windows-based remote administration program, you'll need to an application (vnc, etc) to do anything. With RemotelyAnywhere, you just need a Java/JScript-enabled browser. RA is fast and priced pretty nicely. Security is not an issue if you use SSL.

Uhh, Remote Administrator kicks ass... This, does not.
Remote Admin is at www.famatech.com .. and installs as a service in NT/2k. Complete screen control/telnet/files/shutdown/logoff and even send ctrl alt del.

This version has a serious bug. In 98 SE it keeps giving kernel error over and over. As soon as I removed it my 98 SE was fine again. I went back to version 3.1.

To the *.vbs problem: you've to install the Windows Scripting Host, you can get it at www.microsoft.com

WOW. This really is the dogs parts. I havent tested it over a internet connection but has ALL the options that I would want to control a server remotly. As an it professional Im more than happy to install this on pcs that I sell and be able to troubleshoot them from home. Tis a very nice program that also now works on 98
try67 reviewed v3.0.246 on Feb 10, 2000
This is the best Remote-Admin app by far... An easy to use interface combined with extremely powerful features renders it a must for the power-user.
One problem i had with it is that the WebUpdate says there's "no script engine for file extension ".vbs"", and exits...
any idea on how to fix this? e-mail me at warez_online@hotmail.com

Firstly, this new version now has Windows 9x and 2000 support.
Secondly, it's excellent.
Enough said.
