Publisher's Description

Returnil System Safe is built with the end-user in mind. It shouldn't be stressful to surf the internet or to download a program you really would like to try out. It uses a combination of antivirus, antimalware, system restore and a virtual system to protect your computer from all types of viruses and other malicious threats.

Returnil System Safe uses an advanced anti-malware and virtualization technology. It clones (copies) your operating system and creates a virtual environment for your PC. Instead of loading the native operating system, a clone is loaded that allows you to run your applications and perform your online activities in an entirely isolated environment. In this manner, your actual operating system is never affected by viruses, Trojans, malware and other malicious threats. To return to the actual operating system environment, you just need to restart your PC. While working in the virtual environment, you have the option of saving documents and files so that your data will not be lost when the system is restarted.

Tried recent version and it worked as advertised but I noticed my internet connection was having problems randomly throughout the day and I wasn't able to easily inform the malware detection to ignore some false positives. I switched to a different program, Time Freeze(more in discussion section), and haven't had any internet issues since then. I've bought some extra memory to take advantage of it having the ability to use ram instead of the hard drive as a buffer until you decide to commit changes to the actual disk instead of the virtual disk (which is supposed to save wear and tear on the drive). This effectively renders the hard drive read only which is what some people want. I believe Free and Paid version of RSS are the same ... Paid/Trial version becomes Free version with loss of ability to save files when in virtual protective mode and loss of using system restore points through RSS (called Returnil System Safe now).

I actually went through the whole stupid sign-up process here just to defend and be fair to Returnil! I have no idea what software the people above were talking about, but it can't be Returnil! #1- it can't possibly give you any "false positives", as it's NOT that kind of software! Were those reviews intentional lies? Seems rather odd. At any rate, what Returnil does is create a pretend 2nd PC for you, so if you install something with a virus or that crashs your system or whatever, you can either save what you did while using it, OR just restart PC, & everything you did while using Returnil just is gone. It's action is similar to having a 2nd invisible hard-drive. The NEW 2011 Returnil has a virus guard also, but that just came out, so that can't be what the false informers above were talking about. There are often free versions of Returnil, so if hostility was due to $, get the freebie. That's what I often do. I love it!

Regarding AvantAge's review

I have not downloaded or used this program at all nor do I intend to as there are other ways to go about this.

My main concern is reviews such as AvantAge who in my mind has shares in the company or a vested interest and I would like to think that all people will decide that his review is null and void with such a glowing and wordy review.

Oh ya.$40 bucks as I said there are better ways of doing this which includes buying av/firewall programs on-sale with 3 licenses.

Oh and as per BitTorrent review... get real and get PeerBlock and d/load all ISP addresses you want to block; like Russia, China and spammers +

Get real AvantAge and flogg your BS else where!

Decent application. This is the kind of thing that when its needed, its NEEDED, and is a godsend. I've used it in a couple of small businesses for semi-public PCs that were prone to getting f'd up by teenagers with a vendetta for registry hives. Set it up and every time the system boots its at a point YOU left it - no more questions about whats installed since you last interfaced with the PC.

Now I've also started using it for some friends/family that are virus magnets. I set up their PC the way they like, then install Returnil, create a virtual system from the current 'clean' config, and voila! For these pesky people it is much easier for me to have them call me when they need to add an application (add app & create a new virtual system point), than to call me when their PC has become the digital version of super-staphylococcus.

There are myriad other uses for this product, but for me the above works splendidly. I give it four stars, which is about the highest review it can get from me. I've yet to see a program worth 5 stars; even my all-time faves like 7zip, UltaVNC Single-Click, ImgBurn, and TFTPd32 only get 4 stars.

I tried it on XP SP3. It kept reporting false positives. Even the whole Windows\System32 folder was a trojan!. Besides, the disk cache was continuously running out of space.

It has become indispensable to me. I use it always when I am operating with BitTorrent networks. Note that Returnil is a system virtualizer and does not need configuration. It is not an application-level virtualizer.

Given the response by Returnil right here at FileForum, I keep my promise and gladly rate this software a 5.

BTW, I do like the changes I see in this beta. More than anything else, they make Returnil more convenient and easy to use.
