This is not freeware version.
Excellent program.

@skapig, Good catch. I saw that the Issue with auto-formating has been fixed in the latest build. http://www.webyog.com/bl...eta-1-has-been-released/

Features:
* Both SQLyog and SJA will now detect if Base64 encoding is required for HTTP-tunnel.
Funtionality changed:
* CHUNK setting (for exports) now also has effect for non-HTTP-tunneled connections. Using this option is required if it takes more time to retrieve data from a table than server ‘net_write_timeout’ setting.
* SQLyog will now not reconnect if connection is lost during imports. Instead an error message will prompt (the reason for this is that session variables defined on top of the script would be reset to server defaults with reconnection. As a result (and most important) special characters could garble and other errors could occur as well)..
* When trying to INSERT or UPDATE spatial data types from the DATA/RESULT tab SQLyog will now throw an error. Spatial data must be handled from the editor (but a result set from a table with spatial columns can be updated from RESULT tab if there are no spatial columns in the result).
Pretty nice software (even if the free version has nags). However, my major gripe which continues to be ignored is that the text in the query editor does not match what is saved to the file system when auto-formatting is in use (example: caps). This is appallingly bad design and extremely obnoxious.

frodo888, dude, once again it comes down to diminishing returns. Yes the full version of SQLyog has more features, but for common day to day tasks no one should have to spend money to manage an open source database.
The freeware/nagware version of this program just sucks and is actually inferior to Heidi.

Heidi SQL is a low feature database package. You can't compare both products. If you compare it, Heidi SQL will lose...
Aegis69 reviewed v7.12 on Oct 30, 2008
HeidiSQL kicks this programs butt, is 100% free and open source and NO NAGS! RC4 is out, works great.

They add more and more notifications about upgrading to enterprise version. At 7.1 there is such notification when I close program. Unfortunately, I'm searching alternative now :(

@incisor
You're comparing this to heidisql? Did you even compare the feature lists? Are you a complete n00b?
This has 10 times the power of heidisql. There is NO comparison.

Functionality of http://www.heidisql.com/ doesn't even come close.
incisor reviewed v6.52 Beta 1 on Apr 10, 2008
Nice, but in comparison to www.heidisql.com (open source) i can only give it a 4.
@evergre:
the original mysqlfront (by ansgar becker) was open source, the author sold the NAME, the new owner sold a similar tool under the name mysqlfront and did crap, the original open source mysqlfront returned with the name heidisql....
Ian C. reviewed v6.1 Beta on Sep 29, 2007
Yes they do have a free open source version, with minimal nagging, only a splash screen ad and an status bar link to buy the premium version, however the one they're linking to is not that. They're linking to the trial of the enterprise version, which is a pretty cheap trick for them to pull.
It does a lot of things in an unconventional way, which isn't necessarily bad, but requires a little getting used to. For example it automatically groups the constraints in a sublist beneath each table, which is kinda nice, but very unconventional. Every other program I've used, Oracle, MySQL GUI tools, and SQLite Browser, all group them as part of the information schema.
It seems significantly better than last time I tried it, however I'm perfectly happy with the official MySQL GUI tools, especially considering they have all the features that you only get with this in the premium version.
I'd give it a four overall, but bump it down to a three cause of their trickery, linking to the trial download and saying it's freeware. If you want the actual freeware version it's called "SQLyog MySQL GUI - Community Edition" and you can get it on their download page:

While a very good piece of software its NOT freeware. Nagware is more like it, and crippleware as most of the really good functions are unavailable.
Try HeidiSQL an open source alternative instead,

This is NOT Freeware. The program is labeled misleadingly above.
Dishonest.
evergre reviewed v6.05 Beta on Jul 9, 2007
The Community Edition is free(GPL) and contains more features than any other MySQL GUI in the market.
I personally like open source projects backed by a company, otherwise we would land up using products like MySQLFront which gets discontinued abrubptly, gets commerical, gets shelved, and thne finally becomes open source with a new name!
rsx508 reviewed v6.05 Beta on Jul 6, 2007
NOT FREEWARE!!!
This is a TRIAL download. The product sells for $67 USD (single user) and goes up from there. I wish people would stop labeling trial crap as Freeware. It's incorrect and misleading.

As I said before, excellent frontend.
You can also try HeidiSQL, the sucesor of the original MySQL-Front 2.5.

it's one of the most comfortable and appealing frontends to mysql on the market. MySQL Turbo Manager EE is also pretty nice. Navicat MySQL is more or less ok too, a little bugged though. Don't use EMS products, they suck
guti reviewed v5.2 Beta 5 on Sep 30, 2006
This new beta is even stabler. I only miss more import options (Excel, Access, ... like in MySQL-Front), and a x64 native Windows version.
guti reviewed v5.2 Beta 4 on Sep 24, 2006
Now that MySQL-Front is out of business, SQLYog seems the best alternative.
HelgeFossmo reviewed v5.2 Beta 1 on Sep 6, 2006
As SQLyog now goes open source, this is definitley the number #1 MySQL administration tool. I have been using MySQL Front for a few years now, and recently switched to SQLyog, i was never disappointed! SQLyog is stable, fast and feature filled!
And since it's now an open source app, I must give it a 5/5 rating!
The only real competitor for this product would be EMS MySQL Manager, but that's a pretty expensive product.
hunterb reviewed v5.17 on Aug 17, 2006
This is a very comprehensive and useful tool. The interface has many options which starts to looked cluttered, but it is better than not having those options or having to work out the MySQL commands to do them yourself.
I really like fact that the Query Browser works as it should and provides editing and export features. The official MySQL one is horrible - and missing a lot of functionality. I still use The MySQL Administrator, but SQLYog is always open on my desktop - I can not live without it. The only thing i can think of which i'd like to see in this app is better execution plan info -there is no EXPLAIN EXTENDED thing in the menus, no graphical view and no execution time for each branch. Exec times are probably a DB engine thing.
Don Juan reviewed v5.13 Beta 3 on May 28, 2006
Interface is kind of cluttered looking and not as intuitive as it could be. Took me a while to figure out how to run a query. If you terminate the query with a semicolon and try to to execute it, it won't work, either have to leave off the semicolon or place the cursor in the middle of the query.
I think I'll just stick with the official tools for now. They are much cleaner looking and more intuitive, and also released under the GNU GPL. They can be located at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads. Just scroll down to where it says "MySQL Tools".
MySQL also develops Graphical User Interface applications for administering MySQL Server and working with data.
* MySQL Migration Toolkit -- Migrate from your legacy databases
* MySQL Workbench -- A database design tool for MySQL
* MySQL Administrator -- Administer MySQL Server
* MySQL Query Browser -- Use this graphical client to work with your MySQL databases and run queries
Update: After uninstalling, it left behind a bunch of stuff in my programs folder on the start menu. Figure I'll drop it an additional point for sloppiness.

Its pretty good, but does anyone know of an open source alternative to this? (other than the web based ones)
Freewares always scares me, the company could decide at any time to add more nags till the program becomes a burden. Or they might watermark your data with their produuct link...
sn0wflake reviewed v5.1 Beta 4 on Mar 23, 2006
I havn't tried it but it looks like a binary version of phpMyAdmin which is nice because phpMyAdmin forces me to set up a webserver with PHP.

Very nice tool. No adware in the sense of GAIN but the "free" version does display a nag dialog at every launch and occasionally at exit.
reets reviewed v4.2 Beta 4 on Oct 4, 2005
Awesome software. Downloaded the freeware version from their site and it's fast! Works really fast, fastest of any MySQL viewer I've used so far. I'd tell people to atleast give it a try.

Well, if you looked somewhat further then just the download link and visit their webpage you'll see there's a free version too! covers most needed topic anyway so, it can be called freeware in my opinion
Fithramir reviewed v3.52 on Sep 25, 2003
well its NOT freeware its SHAREWARE / DEMO...however... it is also an excellent program and most likely worth the money if your looking for a GUI windows program to manage your MySQL Servers.

works well.. graphical alternative to phpmyadmin..
