I think this prog is cool and the trial limitation is also understandable. Many people use trial version to do one-time job and then never buy it, so I think that some limitation allows users to understand if they are able to do what they need, and if they can do it, they should buy the software. Sure, there are many free renamers to rename for example photos by shooting dates, but they are not so flexible as Sophisticated Rename, and if the user has to deal with serious renaming tasks, they all fail, while SR allows to do almost anything you can imagine with the help of external plugins.

With Rename Master being free and so powerful, this app is hard to recommend as an alternative.

Nice tool but again the problem of crippled shareware... I rather use free and pay for some extraspecial features for a pro tool. I have enjoyed the FREE Lupas Rename for years, using it almost on a daily basis. It has the same features plus a lot more me thinks. However, the Lupas tool surely could have more stuff, like renaming a bunch of folders.

Well, it's impossible to fairly review this app because the developer has crippled the trial version with this ridiculous limit:

"Sorry, but this trial version allows you to process maximum 30 files at once just to show you how it works. If you want to process an unlimited number of files, you must buy the full version of Sophisticated Rename."

If you cripple your trial version, then how can anyone know that your software does what you claim it does? Let us know when that restriction is removed, and I'll come back and test it, and if it's as good as you say, I'll gladly buy it. Most renamer software, however, is judged on how quickly and easily it allows the user to efficiently rename a range of files and folders. Sophisticated Rename's interface relies on the clunky and click-driven rules window. By the time you're done, your mouse finger is worn out.

I've been working with SR for a long time and I know that all other progs don't have any flexibility in comparison with SR. All renamers can add strings to names and change case of the letters and all renamers understand EXIF and ID3 but what next? Where is the flexibility to allow users work with custom tasks? Can other software automatically sort out files to different folders? Can other software have numerous independent counters for each subfolder of files to process them all at one click? Can other software change the renaming algorithms "on the fly" by using contitionals right inside the renaming template? Does other software allow users to connect plugins to futher extend renaming possibilities, for instance, read "description" metatag from html files? Does other software allow users to write their own plugins to use specific algorithms that any existing program just cannot provide? Can other software rename files right on FTP servers to save money on trafic/online time? And finally, does any developer provide friendly support, for example, create templates for you if you don't understand something? Believe my own experience - with Sophisticated Rename you have it all, with other software you have only basics, and sooner of later there will come a moment when you understand it and will have to look for another program, a program like Sophisticated Rename.
