Publisher's Description

Sygate Personal Firewall is more than an advanced, user-friendly personal firewall, it's a bi-directional intrusion defense system. It ensures your personal computer is completely protected from malicious hackers and other intruders while preventing unauthorized access from your computer to a network. In essence, it makes your protected machines invisible to the outside world. That makes it a must-have security measure for any PC that connects to a private network or the public Internet. Once you've been compromised, every other network you connect to is at risk; including your home, business and online bank accounts. No matter where you use your computer, whether remote or behind a corporate firewall, whether dial-up or an always-on broadband Internet connection, it gives you complete confidence that your precious business, personal, financial and other data is safe and secure. If that isn't enough, it includes advanced active-scan vulnerability assessment to pinpoint your weaknesses and fine-tune your security policy.

Very good firewall, easy to configure, if you can't figure it out it's still easy because of the pop up windows asking your permission and how to handle connections if temporary or permanent.

Sygate was bought out by Norton/Symantec and is no longer being developed, however there was very little changes with each version, you can now get the latest Sygate Personal Firewall Pro v 5.6 for free, just google and look on all those download sites like tucows, cnet, download.com and more.

All you need in a firewall without the extra crapification to slow you down. of course like most firewall it may drive you batty while you train it.

It's almoust perfect, but it has one minus.
It does not have a securety protecton licke Outpost althugh all that it's is TWICE AS GOOD as Outpost.
Sygate is almoust perfect.

Symantec announced that Sygate is no longer supported. That is sad considering that Sygate kicked Norton Firewall's A** but then again I guess technical excellence will always be secondary to money.

Am I the only one pissed off about big corporations buying smaller companies that make good products? Macromedia and Adobe merging was bad enough. *puke* Now I find out Corel bought my favourite image editing software, Paint Shop Pro. *yikes* I used to be a big fan of Sygate (as well as Ghost), but since Symantec bought them, I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Symantec is notorious for buying smaller companies and ruining their products. I have no doubt that Sygate will be no exception.

I have tried a lot of FW and every time I return to Sygate I don't know why, perheps it's the easiest and the more effiecient one
I think that's the only FW that satisfies you.
And now that symantec acquires it, it dies and will become less and less reliable : unfortunately :(

I'm a big fan of Sygate Pro and have used it for years. However, since it has just been acquired by Symantec, I guess that will soon end. Price goes up, quality comes down.

Highly recommended!
I have deployed the Syagate Personal Firewall protection for a few years and up to now it has denied all of the malicious worms' attacks. Although I don't have permanently installed an antivirus software my "holy" WinXP proves to be healthy (I don't use the IE either).
In comparison with ZoneAlarm, Sygate's Firewall does not possess the nasty memory leaks of the ZoneAlarm. Furthermore, its clean interface appeal far more to me than the colourful bla-bla tabbed one of the ZA. In addition, the incoming and outgoing history graphs provide more info than the ones of the other firewalls I have tried. However, ZA is also a bulletproof solution, but these memory leaks .....

I have used the basic free version for several months, until I moved up to the Pro version. I never suffered the problems that I got using the Zone Alarm Pro version 5. Sygate just works, thats it. The home page face is sorta dull looking, and is initially hard to figure out. But after a short amount of time, it become easier to use. Sygate Pro or Zone Alarm with Antivirus,,,,Hummm, good question on which one to choose! Both work great.

You WILL NOT find a better firewall..

I've used plenty. Zone Alarm Pro, Black Ice, Kerio, Outpost (I absolutely dispise this company. They are rude and unsupportive to PAYING customers.), Norton Internet Security, and F-Secure.

Sygate has beat the everliving crap out of all of them. Why? Because of many reasons. First of all, it catches everything as it should. It doesn't bother you constantly with notifications. It's very light on system resources. The GUI is simple and straight forward. It doesn't mask itself with a pretty outfit like zone alarm (all that does is waste valuable memory).

If you want a great firewall that you can trust, get sygate.

Excellent Program. Does a great job of keeping your computer secure, while being unobtrusive and very easy on the resources. Much better than ZoneAlarm, Kerio, and the likes.

I used and loved Zone Alarm, but sind version 5.0 theres that annoying bug with gamevoice, and theres no fix in sight because zonelabs said, they do not even know what GV is ^^

After testing all commercial firewalls theres only one wich i want to use instead of ZA, this one...

Spygate locks like crap, but its AWESOME :p

I tried ZoneAlarm, Agnitum Outpost, Kerio and Norton Personal Firewall and by far and away Sygate Pro is the best firewall of all. It is easy to configure, very minimal in resources and blocks everything thrown at it.

I gotta agree this firewall is the best!

Worth the price. It has been solidly protecting my PC for quite a while now & the only problem I've ever had with it was with one of the earlier versions. It would just shut itself down without warning while running. The next update removed that problem however, & it has been smooth sailing since. An add on that I recommend to this program is the SPF Log Viewer (http://www.geocities.jp/.../sygate5/spflgvw_en.htm) - it allows you to filter Sygate's log files (by any criteria which is captured by the Sygate logs), which is about the only thing missing from the main program.

Definately the best there is. Although ZoneAlarm Security Suite is also very good, it just slowed down my system a bit too much. If you're looking for a firewall, get this.....highly recommended

I'm only using the free version for now, but this firewall is awesome! It allows you to fine-tune security levels on all applications and services, the footprint is small and the logging capabilities are excellent. I suppose the only problem I've got with it is the lack of advice for services that want to access the network, thus making it better suited for the more technical savy. I've used Norton and Zone Alarm and Sygate in my opinion beats them both.

I switched from ZoneAlarm 5.x to Sygate 5.x and could not be happier. Sygate DOES NOT slow webpage loading, but unlike ZoneAlarm, it won't freeze your system and force a reboot. Best of all, its interface is far easier to understand and work with than either Norton or ZoneAlarm. I strongly recommend it. Don't take my word for it — independently test the security of Sygate's firewall against your present software and see if you're not impressed.

Many Advanced Features. Problem: Slows down page loading. The extra security of this program is comparative to a Fast Weight Loss Program consisting of tying a rope around so tight you can't swallow. Sure you lost weight but at what price? Do you pay for a Fast Internet connection? Then why pay to slow it down?

Man how old is that screenshot eh?

Anyhow - This firewall gets top rating from me as it has never let me down yet. And its ease to configure rules as well.

What's wrong with ppl at BetaNews ?!?! This beta version was released at least one month ago... ;). But, after all, Sygate is the best firewall for Windows (and easy to use). They have big problems with slowing down too much the transfer (that's why it gets a 4 rating from me)... And BetaNews is cool too... but a little slow lately ;)

Excellent firewall, I have been using this for years. I have tried various others but keep coming back to this one. Use bob's block list, (http://www.unixhub.com/block.html) Dshields feeds (http://feeds.dshield.org/block.txt), other security sources and your intellect to keep your computer nice and secure from all the bulsh*t spammers, crackers, and poser hackers that swarm the net these days. (Note: Use bluetrack.co.uk’s Security Blocklist Converter to convert Bob’s block list, Dshields, and other IP lists such as peer guardian’s to convert it to a the format found in sygtate’s advance rules.
