Probably one of the best browser-clones for now, with the exception
of the possibility that you can't create tab-groups (what a pity !)

@SineWave,
stay tuned for 4.0 now in development ... Chrome will be the new engine.

It uses Internet Explorer engine. In my book that's a stab in a back. No use. Nothing using IE engine can be safe for browsing. I was hoping it would be using a proprietary engine... I give it two stars because I don't like giving one.

betasun, dont know why tab position isnt part of the options but here is a quick fix. Locate 'theworld.ini' generally in 'C:\Program Files\TheWorld 3' and search for 'TabAlign=1'. Change 1 to 0. Modify the above file only when the browser is not running. After the changes, startup the browser and you should see what you want.

In general, less bloated, very much active development and stable.

Really NEW one! I like it. Yes, there are some little roughnesses, but hope they could be corrected. I'm used Maxthon for last 3 years, and now so bored - it's bloated, crushed. And this browser is really promising. Good luck!

Nothing new to the table, just another browser to flood the ongoing figth to win the browser war... enough already. If I don't see another "NEW" browser in the next 30 years, I won't care!!

Bland and typical. Try harder to get more attention.

McAleck: the point is to replace IE....esp. for sites that demand IE exclusively.....

I've been trying TheWorld as default browser....hiccups when called by UpdateNotifier though:
if it opens at all, takes a real long time...when it doesn't(most of the time), it forces you to close several instances of each in something like Task Manager- one by one...before being able to open it again gltch free.

Its session restore is a good idea...ALTHOUGH it wants to open already-closed(ergo unwanted) tabs too. AND... it would be nice if a save to group option were added to that restore page.

Its Download Manager is good-- particularly its useful Open File button that is immediately available, saving unnecessary clicks / dialogs.

TheWorld needs to implement the tile tab funciton found in FlashPeak SlimBrowser, and further improve it by allowing particular tile configurations / positions to be saved, so as to not have to reconstruct them upon each browser reopen.

If FlashPeak and TheWorld could be melded into one, it'd be awesome.

Very impressive. Bit of a Maxthon knock-off but I love it. Too bad it's IE based.

Three stars. Flatline. Good points: it loads FAST, as fast if not faster than Greenbrowser, a lot faster than Maxthon and Firefox. And it works natively with Roboform. Bad points: 1) You can't turn off the skinning, which means that there is a performance hit each time you close or open a new tab due to the drawing time (when you're used to having that happen instantly, it's mildly annoying). 2) Doesn't work with WebEx online webconferencing. Webex kicks in an auto-refreshing URL to start your meeting and this is one of the browsers that doesn't work with it. Greenbrowser, FF do. Maxthon, Avant and TheWorld do not. That's a bug. Brought it to the author's attention in their forums, they've done squat to fix it. That's a dealbreaker for me. This browser goes onto the backburner until the skins can come off and the Webex compatibility is fixed.

First of all, it's just another IE clone. All IE clones will never be more memory efficient than the original IE.

Its layout is unique, which is quite good for minimalist design. But its skinning engine sucks big time since it doesn't work properly in my system.

If you are minimalist, this is for you. But if you are looking for a more efficient browser, you should skip this one.

elitegangsta

elitegangsta reviewed v2.3.0.3 Beta on Sep 5, 2008

Small, light, clean. However, nothing new here. this offers nothing more then FF IE, Safari, Chrome, etc... just another browser. The web standards seem to be on par, I don't notice anything "new" or "advanced" in terms of reasons why anyone would need to use this over anything else already out there with much better track records. For more browsers to be flooding cyberspace, they need to bring something unique to the table. This browser is anything but unique.

thomas.tmc

thomas.tmc reviewed v2.3.0.3 Beta on Sep 4, 2008

Decent browser, but there's no reason to use it...

It doesn't offer anything that FF doesn't. With IE, FF, Safari, and now Chrome, there is no reason for another browser unless it offers something unique.

It shows a lot of promise. The page rendering is very good. It's not ready to replace FF. All of the options make it somewhat cluttered and a bit confusing. That's why I like the idea of Google Chrome, as it does the job well and it's simplicity is a breath of fresh air. Although Chrome's interface leaves a lot to be desired. I'm looking forward to Chrome's next release. I doubt I'll be using World browser, but I'll be keeping my eye on it.

TW 2.0 is very fast!

I've been using this and the TW 1series as my main browser for a long time now. It has more features than initially apparent.

There are loads of plugins available at the chinese forum but its difficult to navigate with a web translator, however I've found that TW can run many Maxthon plugins: Toggle custom style, Mystyle, Remove link trackers, Picsprawl. View page,Inlinepreview and many more.

The toolbars have been improved (but still need developement, you can't concertina them and some separators for definition would be nice) and the multi function title bar [activated in options] means you can drag other toolbars onto the title bar which is usually wasted space in many browsers.

Extensive & configurable shortcuts are available
but i'd like to see more url shortcut options as in theworld 1x series. TW2.0 has 12 whereas I have around 35 different hotkey combinations set up purely to launch either single urls or groups from TW 1.42

Yo create groups enter several urls separated by a ; into one shortcut box and then launch them by an assigned hotkey.

If the best of TW 1x series and TW 2 x series were amalgamated I'd rate it 5. As things stand I'd rate each 4.

hurzx

hurzx reviewed v2.0.6.6 on Jan 11, 2008

Rather disappointing.

Sure it is very fast. Light ? 32 MB with only 3 tabs open does not appear very light.
The main point is that it is lacking several basic features. No adblocking is a severe negative point : actually there is one, but it is so inefficient that no ad is blocked at all ! Favorites management is non-existent, which is a major negative. Worst : no session organisation and does not allow to open a session as user wants ( tabs order is not kept). Skin management the same, no spacer for toolbars, no button size choice, no toolbar placement choice... Very few plugins ( no Noscript, Flash blocking not working). Those are the few points I noted.
No mail client included, etc...
So very poor in general.
That's a pity as it is very fast. At the same token, its speed could be hurt with more features.

One can remove much of the unwanted icons if one so desires where other browsers the main menu bar cannot be edited. Nice convenient pg zoom on status bar
features a 5

I want to give this a 5, I really do, but the RSS feature is woefully lacking and poorly formatted, and there needs to be more options for tabbed browsing (like opening links entered in the address bar in a new tab) before I can go that far.

Otherwise a damn compelling entry into the (admittedly overcrowded) tabbed browsing IE front end market....

I'm giving a 5 to this software because I am amazed with the speed, the stability, the ease of use, and the aesthetics of this IE-engined browser. Less than 900kB is really tight. The authors seem to have considered everything which makes the basis of what we all expect from a browser, the option pages are very well done, skins are fabulous and a few plug-ins are already available. I'll say it clearly : I prefer TheWorld browser to Maxthon and Avant browsers. A very nice software in its category, brilliantly offering modesty in velvet gloves. I am enthusiast indeed. And it is certainly a relaxing comfort to deal with simplicity : after all, what are the plugins and extensions we *really* use regularly? This browser offers the main functions and does it very well. Moreover, this is still only it's youth!

I don't trust this program either. There are many misspellings on their website. Now here I am writing this to equal out that moron who gave it a 4 and didn't even try it out because he didn't have Vista.

Now, the browser itself looks pretty nice. If the company would fix all of their misspellings I would probably higher my rating.

I like what aszure said (XP version):

"Yeah I would grade it low for misspellings. A few typos in code can create a world of havoc. It shows lack of quality assurance, and also shows that the programmer doesn't particularly care about his program. Its like writing a paper for school, spelling errors show you don't care.

Isn't there a saying about polishing a turd? "
