Hello,
I've been a practicing hypnotist for over 5 years now. I primarily do comedy and nightclub shows, but will sometimes sponser a "weight-loss" or "stop-smoking" seminar from time to time.
I've tested this software package fro the last 3 months now, and I've had outstanding results with it. I've found it works well when I'm flying or traveling. I simply turn on my laptop, plug in my headset, and run the software. I use it for relaxation, concentration and focus, and confidence and motivation sessions. It'a tool like any other. There are no perfect tools, so don't expect this one to answer all your prayers. But it does do what it says it will do. And it does it well. I have recommended it to several clients and friends. Enjoy the gift that is being offered. All negative posters should get some hypnotherapy and improve their self image and be more positive towards life. Remember...tomorrow you die...now what are you going to do with the time left?!?!

This release wasn't supposed to be submitted to Betanews, mainly because it requires 5.2 to be installed in order for it to work at all (that's why the previous person complained haha; I did this in order to keep it small, and it was mainly just intended for members of the program's Yahoo group). I don't know who submitted it.

Installed this and on first run it just gave a bunch of errors and wouldn't close until I used Endtask. I then reinstalled it got the same problem again. The creator really needs to go back to the board on this one. I however do like the idea.

Virtual Hypnotist is the best and most flexible self-hypnosis program ever. No one would say that it is the best possible program, but I would venture to say that it now represents the arrival of software that can be used seriously---maybe WordPerfect would be a good analogy.

The negative reviews here reflect (1)ignorance of hypnosis: if you are not awakened from hypnosis by the hypnotist---in this case, VH---you either fall asleep or wake up by yourself; except in 19th-century horror stories, no one has ever been "stuck" in hypnosis (though many do remain stuck in ignorance); or (2) the misperception---which would seem to indicate very little time spent with the program before writing a review---that the speech synthesis is part of the program itself. It should be obvious to anyone that VH uses various other applications to do what it does, and being freeware itself, it has to rely on other freeware. Freeware speech synthesis is not that well developed---even the AT&T voices that you have to pay upwards of 30 dollars each for are not that great! It takes work---but quite acceptable results can be generated (I tend to prefer the British voices myself).

As to the many bugs, mostly minor, found in earlier versions, most that I'm aware of have been fixed in the latest release, version 5.2.

The most significant lack that needs to be remedied is the sameness of many of the scripts. But I believe that the program now has reached a stage where it will begin to inspire people to fill that gap.

So who is going to you wake you up, once this peculiar program has hypnotized you??????????

The mere idea of using a computer to hypnotize people is dangerous and sick.

I'm the author of the program, and just wanted to clear up some stuff (I'm rating it 3 to keep from changing the rating balance). First of all the speech synthesis quality is the best that is currently available for free. It uses Microsoft SAPI4 and SAPI5.1, along with free speech engines. All of the "decent" ones are commercial, so there's nothing I can do (you can use mp3s and text instead of speech if you want). Also as for bugs, a massive amount of bugs were fixed in 5.2, some of which have been lying around for a long time. Just compare this program with the competition ;)

As for tipsyboy (the review above this one), do you know anything about what you're talking about? lol. "So who is going to you wake you up, once this peculiar program has hypnotized you?" - that's basically saying "Who's going to wake a person up if they're daydreaming? oh no!" - you wake up naturally. It's not magic. Read this before making comments like that: http://www.hypnosis.com/trance/hypnofaq.html

As for hkm's comment, I don't ask for money (the program's open-source). Also you don't seem to know what you're talking about either haha (your comments don't even make any sense).

Program with great potential, but still to young for mainstream.
The idea is great, but it has bugs all over, interface is sloppy, speech recognition and the audio interface need some adjustment.
Feels like a robot is telling me to go to sleep (not happening)a smoother voice should be added.
A user friendly interface and a better audio(voice) engine should put this program on the road.

Not worth your time!

The program had a nice concept and might have even worked if not for the HORRIBLE voice synth program. It sounds like your trying to be hypnotized by a robot. It's distracting and makes it impossible to concentrate on relaxing, which is the whole point of hypnosis. Sorry guys it was a nice idea but it simply does NOT work.

Froze my computer for about 4 minutes during install, followed by an error. Then the program tried to start an windows had a critical error with the speak software.

It installed an awful lot of files for what it is supposed to do.

Virtual Hypnotist is a suite of open source self hypnosis tools. It is easy to use, effective, and a lot of fun too! Since it is open source, all of the scripts are easily accessible for you to review before you choose to use them, so there is no reason to fear being influenced in a way you would not choose. The designer, Ryan, is available though his forum and by e-mail for support.

Utilizing music, visual stimulus, brainwave generation technology and various forms of hypnotic techniques, Virtual Hypnotist is a terrific tool for anyone interested in meditation, accelerated altered states of consciousness or tapping their underused potential.

Give it a try. You’ve got noting to loose and immeasurable ground (your own mind) to gain.

Virtual Hypnotist is actually a suite of applications designed to place a subject into a suggestable state of mind and provide means to present suggestions/ affirmations to them for the purpose of altering behavior.
The program contains a text to speech engine from Microsoft allowing scripts to be created and spoken in several styles which can be downloaded with the application. The program comes with a variety of well written scripts and the Scriptmaker applet allows the user to create his/her own scripts and edit them to taste.Sessions are broken up into modules so that inductions, deepeners, suggestions and wake-up segemnts can be assembled into Sessions ( which can be saved) for different purposes. There are also virtual hypnotists which are animated characters which give another personalizing touch to sessions.
Virtual Hypnotist contains several tools to induce eye fatigue and support a highly suggestable state.A large variety of animated spirals and other visuals are included to support focusing and eye fatigue. There is even an applet which allows the user to create their own.Mp3 audio can be played along with the "recited" scripts to support relaxation. The included files are quite good and you can add your own "loops" to the collection. There is a binaural tone generator complete with masking noise to enhance the frequency following effect allowing the brain to produce favorable brainwave patterns. This was an unexpected and useful implementation. There is also a subliminals generator which flashes text to enhance programming of a subject who responds to this type of stimulation.
I appreciate the fact that these tools can be added to sessions or disabled in the control panel so that just the means required can be employed in a session.
These are just some of the aspects of this very mature program that make behavioral change a possibility. It is perfect for the mind experimenter, sportsman, or anyone requiring a stand-alone solution for behavioral change . I am very grateful this program has become available.

I'll rate my own program, and also clear up some issues that people talked about.
First of all, there is no guarantee that the program will hypnotize you. That mainly depends on many factors, including your suggestability, current mental state, etc.
Secondly, to respond to Novak's rating, Novak said the program probably contains hypnotic suggestions like "Everytime you use my software you will be a happier person", saying that my software's supposed to "trick" you somehow. I would recommend that Novak look through all the scripts, and try to prove this ;) - I'll say up front that there is nothing of the sort in this software. Also Novak complained about my mp3 inductions about "obedience" commands - but what he probably forgot about was that the transcripts of them are all online, and also the purpose is stated directly on the page. Please don't spread FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt), Novak. Hundreds of people like this software.

This program did not work for me in terms of hypnotising me. Please make sure you read what the program will say to you before you run it. (Example "Everytime you use my software you will be a happier person"). I downloaded some mp3's for hypnosis off the authors website and found that they were trying to program me to react to instant message commands like (e.g. MSN ... "SLEEP NOW" and do what I say).
