Nice to see that shills are still in abundance. This is such a poorly-designed piece of crap I can't believe it remains even a semi-viable vehicle of income.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For your review you get the dumb POS of the year awared. If you think this is such a poorely designed, etc., you have to be blind. And to really see how well this program is doing take a look at reviews more than what you will find here. They are all very, very favorable. If someone paid you to write your crap review, they lost out rather miserably. I rate Weather Watcher a 5.

I'll provide the same level of review as Haaglander and give it a 5 because the graphic "looks cool".

After looking for a good desktop weather program I chose Weather1. It beats my local TV station offers and doesn’t masquerade as a useful application while secretly functioning as a keystroke logger or unwelcome adware troll like some of the other programs. With Weather1 I can quickly view the weather for several locations. I also like the voice announcements and find the application to be feature packed yet easy to use. Very nice program.

I've been using Weather 1 for about 4 years now and this new BETA by far, is one of the finest built. If you open the program and look at the world wide sites offered for weather, satalite, etc. its mind boggling, that one program can offer so much, under 1 roof!!! Truly a steal at any price.... Tom

Weather1 is one of the better weather monitoring programs out there. There's a wealth of information and statistics that's available all in one place that you just don't get from other programs. I've tried many, many other programs and keep coming back to Weather1 because of it's weather features as well the fun stuff. As noted in other reviews, it has had problems with crashes in earlier versions, but the author has corrected these problems. Recommended.

For those of you unaware of it, for some reason,Kprovance has had a longtime problem with Mike Singer, the developer of Weather Watcher. As a long time user of his program, I have found Mike to be the exact opposite of Kprovance's ridiculous assertions.
There are a multitude of other weather programs that use the exact same content that Mike does. I wonder where weather1 gets it's info from?

I think this application has suffered from the expansion of the Internet. There is nowadays no shortage of sites that will give you a weather forecast for your area free. As has been said, just look out of your window if you want to find out the current weather. It may have more bells and whistles than those sites, but is the extra information really useful? There may be a group of hard-core amateur meteorologists who find this program useful, but not the average computer user. The need for a desktop application - particularly shareware - of this type must be limited.

I bought this program several years ago, then after a year or two I needed to buy an upgrade because my key wouldn't fully unlock newer versions. I believe Kelly Shipp probably still used this "sliding scale". The problem with Weather1, in addition to re-register stuff is, it really never worked well for any version. It always had lock up errors and crash problems from way back to the beginning of it's developement. I have tied using it on various computers over several years and always at some point had the same problems. PASS THIS SOFTWARE BY unless you like junk coded software.

The program works good in the Imperial Syatem, howver it does a poor job in the Metric System. Most countries are using the Metric values and it appears, the conversions are all off. Several other glitches as well. Forecsat, moon phase, program hangs when trying to exit, freezes, etc.

Someone previous said that the wallpaper only rotated images on your pc. That's a load of cRAP! It can rotate any INTERNET image or image from your pc!!!

The interface it not crowded. It's the best you'll find out there and has always been.

Morningdove

Morningdove reviewed v6.60 on Nov 16, 2005

Try Weather Watcher 5.6 (released last week). You may be pleasantly surprised by the new interface.

CharredPC

CharredPC reviewed v6.08 Beta on Jun 22, 2005

As I said over a year ago, the only reason I used this software was for the little feature it had of taking weathercam shots and putting them as your desktop wallpaper. It was kind of neat to have it auto-update a rotating view of Scotland, Big Ben, and a few other favorite places/cams while working at the pc.

Apparently that was too much trouble; the author now has a totally pointless "wallpaper" tab that rotates saved images on your pc. Well, you lost another user.

If anyone knows of a little simple app that does what I described above, please, let me know. I can get weather by glancing out the window ;)

Mike Singer

Mike Singer reviewed v6.04 on Jan 28, 2005

I just tried the latest release, and again, I am not impressed by the new features. This program is average, at best, when compared to other weather programs. I'm not sure why anyone would want to pay for something average when there are other (better) free options out there.

The user interface is very foreign looking and very hard to navigate. It's kind of like a PC user trying to use a Mac for the first time.

Metshrine

Metshrine reviewed v6.02 Beta on Jan 4, 2005

I have tried both this and the other program that the authors have been arguing about in the reviews. Neither is totally impressive. Personally I prefer weatherbug, smaller than both of these and get this, free for every feature that I USE. Get this down in size, and lower its memory footprint (perhaps by offering a standard windows interface as opposed to the totally graphical one) and this will be rated a 5.

On a side note, I think both of the authors need to take their arguments into an email discussion because doing it on a public review forum is just immature. Please, spare all of us and take your bickering into another method of contact :)

It's easy to get rid of. You just have to format your hard drive and it goes away. Don't know what the big deal is. /sarcasm It's not the worst program I've seen, but it's far from the best.

mbiefeni

mbiefeni reviewed v5.24 Beta on Dec 12, 2003

It works, OK, but try uninstalling it and getting rid of all the pieces of it. It tries to keep coming back. Had to go into the registry to get rid of it, then processes to get rid of it. I think it is a major piece of spyware.

Fats. You and all the other people that have trashed this program on Betanews - giving it a low rating - are way off the mark. I'd give it a 10 if I could to offset your ridiculous rating. I've been a registered user of this program for more than 4 years (BTW I actually buy the shareware for programs I like). Kelly Shipp is extremely responsive to user input and I have high regard for him. As to the idiot who once said (why buy a weather program when you can look out the window) well for one thing, where I live, on top of a ridge in Blue Ridge Mountains, I sometimes CAN'T look my window - because it is obscurded by snow drifts or ice. Fortunately, I'm lucky enough to be able to DSL even the remote area I live in because of the local telephone coop - and power doesn't go out too often (wonder if you weathermen have UPS). This newest beta of Weather1 is an example of coding and dedication at its best.

scodan

scodan reviewed v5.18 Beta on Nov 12, 2003

Awful, ugly, slow interface, which tries more to be "cute" and "wowee" than easy to use and functional. To see the forecast, I can open a stupid little built-in browser window, and get treated to banner ads and other crap. The author should take a long, hard look at Weather Pulse--which trumps Weather1 like crazy, as far as interface goes.

cyberguy

cyberguy reviewed v5.12 Beta on Aug 13, 2003

Agreed. I wasn't looking for a 'Metric' option (silly me). I retract my earlier US-centric-software comment based on the lack of celsius support and upgrade my review to the 5 stars this software deserves. It really is good software for what it does.

Program looks decent, but I am Canadian, and we do temps in Celcius.. Like most of the world.
This software is version 5+, but appears to only support U.S. Style temps, which I find rediculous and short-sighted.

This being the case, I would not pay the developer money for this product. A real shame since this seems to be an unusually complete weather program otherwise.

But if you have a weather fetish then this is right up your alley. I'll be sure to tell the lady 10 cubes away from me about this program so that when she sends out her dialy weather report to the entire office that she can be as accurate as possable. Rock on Linda you weather fetish nuttsack. I wonder if this program can tell of the weather conditions in my office as I walk towards the water cooler to dump the water all over Linda and her weather reports.

I dont mind adware at all, as long as its not spyware, and thats why I use WeatherBug. Some WeatherBug clients shipped with Gator, and I even heard a few had WebHancer, but luckily mine has neither. As for Weather1, it's ok, but it's ugly and WeatherBug has more features (plus my weatherbug is branded with my local NBC station so I get NBC weather news and stuff)

To be honest, the only reason I keep trying to use this thing is for the WeatherCam pics as wallpaper, auto-updated. i could care less about weather forecasts. Well, I'm off to look again to try and find another program that only does Weathercams... if this was EVER stable, I'd probably run it all the time... but I get an error every 5 minutes with this new one :P The old ones ran better!

I tested this prog on my windows me 400 celeron 64mb ram system.

The program ran well although it uses too much resources for such a simple program.

I suggest you find ways to make it lighter.

Also, It took me a lot of time to search maps and images, I think thst a better system is found to search.

Even better, you could make the program auto-detect the region (from Windows settings-Regions) and by default using the maps related to that region when the program start the first time after the user installs it.

Price is a setback and people will prefer freeware and just a fast search in Yahoo Weather.

I have read some of the statements here in the forum regarding Weather1 and most are unfounded. I have used Weather1 for 2+yr and have been very happy with it. Some have complained about the amount of updates that is issued, I for one like this, this is one Software that issues fixes, updates and upgrades on a regular basis, this to me is service at it's best, I have read some complaints about the amount of system resources that Weather1 uses, The complaint is unfounded in my opinion, on Win98SE the SR utilized is 1,778k and on Win2K it's 1,892k this is nothing to complain about. With the updates and support that comes with Weather1, the price can not be beat! If you do have a problem E-mail your concern to weather1 support, Skipp has been very fast at getting back to his customers and/or releasing a fix if needed. This program has one of the best support in the Shareware market.

Warning! While this app is perhaps the one with the most possible info on everything weather, climate, forecasts, images, cams, etc., it is unfortunately very poorly made. The interface is not unusable or anything like that, it's just that this app works very crappily and has very bad design in a few areas. There are also many bugs you may run into, and because this is made with Delphi crap, it also tends to display Delphi's now infamous "memory access" error dialogs now and then. Worth a look, but wouldn't pay for this one.

Although I prefer the GI of netscape alot better than IE, netscape just hasn't brought itself to the front. This "new" version is still using the old outdated 4.0 code and is far behind IE html code. Creating HTML for netscape has still not become any easier and is a far cry from IE, and netscape still doesn't have the functionality to it that IE does.
