The reason it isnt on the Microsoft website (Well it is but they have not officially announced that it has been released on public servers) is mainly because of time, it is like winamp when there is a new version it is available for a good 3 days before the winamp.com site updates, this is mainly because it takes time to setup everything like new pages, links, checking that the page works correctly (links etc) also as it is in multiple languages they are probably waiting for there localisation department to finish the final pages so they can do 1 release of several languages rather than do different release for each language (saving time and money)

I installed SP2 on Win 2K Server. After installing SP2, the server took FOREVER to boot up whenever I would reboot it. There was also a problem with the floppy drive. About every 5 minutes or so the floppy drive would act like it was looking for a disk (for no reason that I could see). I uninstalled SP2 and the server seems to be working with no problems after the uninstall. Also installed SP2 on my laptop which is running Win 2K Pro. Got a BSOD on the first reboot after install. Rebooted again and it came up OK. Laptop seems to be working with no problems now.

Installed the service pack, works flawlessly. Lots of security updates and adds full support for Ultra ATA/100. The people having problems installing are likely folks who have had corruption of their system files on their HDD before installing SP2, which can exacerbate the situation by rendering systems unbootable. Recommend running system file checkers, cleaners, and virus checks before installing.

There seem to be some confusion regarding this service pack:
This is the *first* Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000. There never was an "earlier" release. I'm not even sure this one is the final. I have yet to see an official statement from Microsoft.

Installed flawlessly on Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP-1; both on my work and home machines.

I haven't had time to install it yet but a couple of friends have and they had no problems either before or after.
As a side note: I had a look at that report about spyware and wouldn't you know it, the report is about the IE6 beta release. And at the end of the report the person stated that he wouldn't be surprised if MS includes it in all Service Packs from now on. There was not anything about Win2K SP2 including it at all!

Had to manually reinstall my SCSI CD-R drive after installing SP2. Other than that, seems to be cool.

Been running SP2 Beta now for a couple of weeks. My VIA chipset system was coughing and spitting up violently till I installed this SP. Now she purrs like a kitten with Roxio Direct CD and overclocking. Rock solid. This will make Win2K a viable alternative to the XP activation crap. I think!

Huge download, but worth it, I guess. No noticable changes, but I'm glad they're making improvements.

powerslide didn't work after installing sp2...not matter the compatibility mode. uninstalled and everything was normal again. s***e.

I downloaded the file and burned it onto a CD-R. Then I copied it to the C: drive of my laptop and installed it. Everything went smoothly. It backed up and replaced a huge number of system files. Evidently a lot of tinkering and fine-tuning went into this service pack.

Just downloaded and installed on 2 peaceez w/o a hitch. It even fixed a couple of glitches one of my machines was experiencing, so I give it 2 gunz way up!

So far so good! I used the "Backup for uninstall" option just in case, but doesn't look like I'm gonna need to use it! A+++!

No Probs here either, and you can uninstall it. Havent notice anything different other than when I ran Norton Speed Disk it told me that it wasnt tested with SP2 but Im sure there will be an update to that program in a few days.

No problems here. Downloaded it, installed it, rebooted, absolutely no hitches. But then again, I haven't noticed any changes at all, either... well, I'm sure they're there!! Just as long as they're not NEGATIVE changes, eh? There is an uninstall option, by the way... you can choose to add that feature when you install. I went ahead and did it just 'cus, well, you know -- good idea. But to sum it up, might as well get it, it's bound to have SOME useful fixes in it, with a download THAT size. ;)
docco reviewed v(SP2) on May 11, 2001
Is there an uninstall option to this one?
The curiosity will eventually overcome as usual, just want to know if there's a safe return in case of a total disaster. :)

BE CAUTIOUS.. I installed it.. and took me 10 reboots before I could get it to boot. For some reason I kept getting the STOP BSOD before it completed booting. After 10 tries, it finally worked.. phewww.. guess who's backing up all of their information ;)

Downloaded OK. So far, 30 mins, running OK with windows programs and operations.

What can be said about it other than its a service pack?
