Publisher's Description

Y'z Dock is a program launcher like the dock in MacOS X. This application is currently in beta, so please send all reports to the author. In order to add icons, drag and drop a file (.exe, shortcut, etc.) straight from Explorer to the dock area. In order to delete an icon, drag and drop the icon out of dock. Place the PNG images for your icons in the icons folder. Right-click on the icons in the dock, choose 'Property' and choose your icons images there. Right-click anywhere on your dock background and choose 'Setting' to change the settings that apply to the dock itself. The clock and the trash bin are not yet implemented, but they will be shortly.

Extremely small memory footprint. About 672k w/o being in use, but about 2.2kb with use. The setting qualities are all on high, and I have it pretty transparent. Great functionality. I highly reccomend this app, just Google around and you'll find a good link.

Well it gets a 1 from me now. Click on the link to his website and you will see he stopped working on it due to threats from Apple. How stupid! Here I thought maybe Apple was better than Microsoft, but obviously not. They are just as much a bully as Bill is.

First off, this is a great program. If I can't get a true Mac emulator for my PC, than this is as good as it gets. Now to all you Mac flamers out there, I'm a die-hard PC user. I haven't touched a Mac since the Apple //e I used in elementary school. I haven't looked at benchmark tests, so I don't know any "official" stats (since I don't trust the SPEC tests). All I know is that my P3 1.0 gHz computer doesn't run StarCraft as fast as my friend's G4 733 mHz. I don't care of Mac processors don't have the same gHz speed as Pentiums. The simple fact is, they perform better.

I'm still not giving up my PC, though.

This new version is so fast! This program has completely replaced my quick launch bar, and its the most useful piece of software on my PC. Great original concept by Apple. My only problem with Y'z Dock is the number of page faults that show up in my windows task manager. The program never has crashed for me, but it seems that there are page faults occuring every second the program is running. The only other program on my PC to do this is explorer.exe (lol). And after running Y'z dock for several hours, I had 10,000,000 page faults, and this is no joke. I dont know a thing about page faults, but I would sleep better at night if this bug were addressed :-) All in all, this is definately a five star program.

Y'z Dock is very cool!

It's almost exactly like Apple's Dock!

I have a tiny bit of a problem with the magnification, but that's a problem with my system anyway.

5 stars--and 5 more that I couldn't add

I've never had a problem with downloading anything from DT2. I don't have a software firewall, but a hardware firewall. As for the daily releases, Mr. Yamaguchi is fixing bugs as they are reported to him. Thelast two daily releases were to fix a multi-monitor bug. Mr. Yamaguchi does not have a multi-monitor system himself, so he has to rely on others to report bugs. As for the program, it's the BEST dock out there, and keeps getting better with every revision. Now with the docklet SDK released, there has become available a weather docklet, a calender docklet (i-cal), a mail checker docklet, and an 8-ball docklet. You can get these from DT2 as well.

Funny how it's always the very few that are the loudest. Paranoid, ranty? In 2 months 60gb of bandwidth, call us whatever you want but this place isn't stealing from us anymore. Instead of getting mad at us maybe you should aim that at Betanews. When you have to lay out the cash to support another site that steals from others then lets see how you feel. Then when you try to talk to Nate Mook and all he can reply is "then take it down" maybe your attitude will change. It costs enough to run a site without supporting others that use such dishonest and under handed tactics. They not only steal but they try to hide it behind a script. The ethics here are beyond comprehension and obviously beyond some of it’s users too.

Unfortunately the designtechnika.com site is so tightly closed up that I could not download no matter how hard I try with my firewall enabled - disabling it is not an option for me. If you use any type of firewall with this site, you are shunned. I'm sure the software is dandy, but I'll pass on it due to the host's paranoid policies.

infinitejones

infinitejones reviewed v0.8.2 Beta on Jun 3, 2003

Now this is a great little toy, but I found it INSANELY difficult to download it, or any of the docklets, skins or icons from the designtechnika.com site because of their rabid obsession with bandwidth theft. Don't get me wrong, they have a right to protect the bandwidth they pay for, but short of completely uninstalling Flashget (which I'm not going to do) everything method I tried resulted in their little ranty "stopthief" page appearing. Cutting off their nose to spite their face, maybe? Would have been five stars if I could have downloaded some skins...

You went through all 3 of my mirrors until you found the last mirror, the one I intentionally left unprotected and you hotlinked to it. Stop these underhanded tactics. You can't credit you news sources but you can leech their bandwidth, great ethics.

HAHAHAHAHA
" Although Macs are tempting, and look very pretty, they are NOTup to par in the processor world."

they are the most efficient processors ever made. a dual 1.3 ghz G4 is classified by the United States Government as a supercomputer and is illegal to export... Tell me that isn't up to par. MAC's have the most powerful dektop computer in the history of desktop computers. i'll put it this way: if the platforms were the same, ie if MAC and PC were equal, could run the same apps etc, then a PowerMAC dual 1.3ghz G4 would be equivelant to an Intel P4 4ghz with hyperthreading. stop being ignorant and learn about something before you make wild assumptions.

This is an excellent program. Although it would be better if it had some way to convert your normal icons to the .png format which this program uses.

Its also much better than that overpriced Stardock crap. I purchased their whole kit once but had to get a refund due to all the bugs it had. Y'Z Dock is completely FREE.

and maybe reduce the memory usage.

Good idea improvelence. Oh btw, I'm not a Mac fan boy. I preffer Linux over everything. Although Macs are tempting, and look very pretty, they are NOTup to par in the processor world. Once they switch over to their new IBM processors maybe I'll look in to them more. But for now this is the closest you get to Mac OSX's dock bar. I wish they had something like this for linux. ;)

I had some fun playing with this thing, but it did have some memory use and stability issues over the long term. I found some nice icons on the objectdoc/yzdoc sites in png format.
As to the exchange below...Amazing how critical of others work some can be, yet they don't possess the skill to program their way between the chair and the keyboard without screwing something up. You can pick out the losers right away when they find a public place to post their immature flames...

For those of you who don't like this program, look how much you are paying for it! Yes, it is a resource hog, yes it is, for the most part, useless, but it is well done for what it does. Use ThemeXP's Mac skin with this app and you have Mac OSX's Aqua interface. For those of us who switch back and forth between PC (for real work) and Mac (for illustration), this program is neat. For Windows-only users, it is useless.

Dont rate tools im interested in? First of all im guessing you mean "not" interested in and if noone rated stuff that they were "not" interested in everything would have a good rating you uneducated fool. I downloaded this and here is why it sucks: A:) Memory Hog B:) Waste of valuble desktop space C:) Pops up in front of tv and some video apps...lame D:) Stops audio in winamp when you mouseover E:) Slows down startup time F:)You can pull the quicklaunch out of startmenu and tab it as a toolbar at the bottom if your pathetic self wants a mac that bad, without killing your memory. G:) Get a Mac, why do all these people want to clone macs on pc's, buy a freaking mac!!!!!!!!!!!!So next time your uneducated a$$ has something stupid like that to say, rethink your comment before you say something dumb like "dont post on things your not interested in"...Sounds like a perfect commie world where everyone likes everything, the object of this site is to point out the good and bad things of beta software, or else nothing will be done to change it.

Brilliant program - it's a bit of a memory hogg (as much as 16MB) and the way it writes itself to the screen interferes with my DVBs TV Viewer (Highendtv from Hauppauge & MultiDec) but it does work OK with offline players such as PowerDVD/Media Player etc.

Another thing i like is how it displays the text next to the icons when one bring the mouse over it - it's very cusomizeable.

I have started making some icons for MS Office (look pretty boring so far) wonder if one could start a collection of "good" useable images for it on the website!?

This is one of the few programs you come across every now and then that are truly excellent. I was in Comp USA a while back and was playing with an I-Mac that was on display. I was fascinated with the OSX Dock and thought it was the coolest thing. I've tried DesktopX docks and Moby Dock. Y'z Dock is the best WindowsXP dock I have used to date, hands down. Per the release notes, it is going to be even better in future releases. No major bugs to report.
