Please read changelog! This is not a bug. And Windows XP was never supported in the first place, it's just that past version of gdipp did not require DirectWrite feature that Windows XP does not have.

Okay version 0.80 has serious bugs. After installing it on my system - Windows XP Pro, 32 bit I get the following error every time an application is launched:

This application has failed to start because DWrite.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried running it as a service then as a registry setting but both times I received the same error. I am downgrading my rating by 1 star because I think it has potential.

As is mentioned in changelog it no longer works in XP, not that it was ever intended to anyway. But anyway this is brialliant app, and I will continue to use version 0.7.6 on my XP boxes, and newer releases on my 7.

This beta installs in manual mode and can "hurt" your system. Love to see others reviews as I am still running 076 in xp sp3.

Simply amazing! This does wonders on my WinXP (which is not even supported OS). Works right of the box, no configuration needed. XML files is for advanced settings (see Wiki). Uninstall entry is present and accounted for in Add/Remove menu.

@JeremyP, uninstall is where it is supposed to be - "Add or Remove Programs" (or whatever it's called in W7), and for W7/x64 you have to get 64-bit version.

I expected a "slight" difference, IF it worked. In fact it really makes a big difference! Works very well with Windows XP Pro service pack 3. I have a Dell flat screen.

x64 version installed. No entry in Add/Remove programs. All there is is an xml file. Impossible to tell if it is doing anything. The problem with SO much "open source" code is that is written for the people who write them, but unuseable by other. Shame, my text rendering even on my high spec monitor is no near as good as I would hope for.

I installed it on WIndows XP professional as a service with no issues. I'm using dual LCD monitors and the text appears both darker and sharper than before. It also seems to have fixed a delay I was having with an auto text utility.

I installed it (as a service, the default). Within a couple minutes I noticed a font rendering anomaly while editing a shortcut. gdipp totally ruined my ability to view the text I was editing. So, no thanks. It did look good in the places it didn't totally screw up, though.

Why not submit a bug report? Because my time is valuable and I spend it how I see fit. I feel no obligation to take part in the development effort.

Okay ive tried it since my original post, and heres the good and the bad

Im using a clean install of WinXP SP3 (with all updates), using service mode
Using a native res of 1680X1050
Using stock font settings - sizes, and DPI etc

Good:

* When it works it does improve the readability of text

* Low resources

Bad:
====
* Sometimes a little too bold on bold fonts...no, really, try it, you will see what i mean.

* Inconsistent - try opening the same web page in firefox and IE, the text even in each applications gui elements is wildly inconsistent in readability and appearance

* Simply trying to edit a folder name in explorer is frustrating until you figure out that you need to put the cursor and extra character behind where you want to begin editing....

If they fix these issues ill use it, but i cant the way it is, i just keep finding niggling issues with it....

Ill leave my rating at 3 and hope for the best

Works in XP sp3 fine. Installed with no options and it's running fine. Seems to have disabled clear type but I find no ability to customize.
After a couple boots it actually seems a more robust but fluid font activity. ClearType may not be what I thought. Wait and see.
It is installed as an automatic service by default.

If you are running a 64 bit version of Windows 7, you must install the 64 bit version.

I'm not so sure this will help those of you with young eyes, but for those of you who must use bifocals, this application is great!

Sounds like a promising GDI++ replacement, but sadly doesn't work on XP.

"We do not recommend you to choose the "Windows Service" and "Registry" load modes."

That's confusing. Why is the Windows service described as the recommended mode by the installer?
