Nice to see someone doing what Creative refuses to do; supporting their own products.

This is like the best alternative out there for creative drivers if you're after sound quality and not EAX and stuff.
Even though it is complicated - but there are tons of presets available for download. Great thing.

kxDrivers are not FOSS, and if you don't like the interface, you can download one of the many skins available for it.

kxDrivers are one of the most powerful driver sets available for a consumer product. They give you full DSP routing ability, allow you to script hardware effects, and give you a low latency sequencing and recording solution using a 20 dollar sound card. If that doesn't sound fantastic to you, I would have to say you're simply ignorant.

Want to get your perfectly good SB Live working in Vista after Creative abandoned you? Then this is the package for you. Perfect? Nope, but free and functional. Thanks for the great work and hi quality audio.

Taken from: http://www.driverheaven....197-3538m-released.html

-----------------------------------
here's 3538m:

changes:
- Added support for analog-ins on A2ZS Notebook
- Fixed issue with 24/96 router (pls verify!)
- Fixed skin memory leak issue (Note: always use Zip instead of Rar)
- Fixed EFX effects boot time issue (related to the above)
- SDK: Added passthru on/off functions
- Fixed issue with double-click, added one more option
---
this is a final release candidate
unless we find anything critical in this release, I will announce this as 'latest stable' on our site (which hasn't been updated since 2004!)
after that, I will start working on x64 support and will work on improving Vista compatibility (ASIO)
--
everyone is encouraged to review this new build and let me know if it is stable enough.
pls re-check all the issues present in 3538a..3538l and let me know if some of them are still not fixed
--
known issues (which I cannot fix at the moment or will be fixing in 3539):
* digital noise/beep instead of audio playback (PCI bus-related) - since 2001...
* Line3 (AUX) is too noisy on A2PlatinumEx (undocumented initalization)
* sysex is corrupt if it is too long
* ASIO support in Vista
* x64 support

this driver version does NOT support (as 3538 and previous ones...):
* EAX 2.0
* 24/96 ASIO
* WaveHQ device (24/96) playback/recording on p17v (a2value, a2zsnotebook) - it was errornously enabled in 3538, but since p16v and p17v are different chips, no support is currently available (it didn't work in 3538 anyway)
* E-mu 1820-like hardware
* passthru on 10k1-based devices

note: audigy2 value mapping is incorrect. please let me know the new mapping and I will fix this before releasing the driver to the public

Typical FOSS project. Over complicated with a GUI that stinks. Hell, even the uninstaller doesn't do the job properly.

Gave up trying to get my soundcard working after trying for an hour. At best I got a repetitive set of high pitched bips.

If there was a zero, I'd have given it one.

A warning to all those trying it - create a System Restore point first and that way you can be sure you've got rid of it when you give up.

I've downloaded a lot of software from Beta News, this is the best so far. It actually deserves a higher rating. Nothing bad I can say about it. Congrats to the coder.

I've been using this for just over a month now and I can definately tell you that there's a HUGE difference in the sound quality as compared to the SB drivers......I'm never going back to Creative......the audio processing quality of this is unbelievable........

Ok, at first, I was a bit lukewarm as far as those drivers are concerned. I am aware that (between others) they are not EAX compliant, which can be a downside (especially for gamers). But I purchased a new hard drive, did a clean Windows XP install, very latest Creative drivers, and the *censored* Audigy had some crackling noise. Note that to update, Creative REQUIRES old drivers to be installed, and then uninstall them before updating with the latest ones, damn stupid. I tried swapping HPs, and sure enough, it wasn't the HPs fault. I tried the PCI latency patch, without success. So since I heard about these drivers some time ago, I thought "what the heck, I'll give them a shot". And boy, am I glad I did! The sound quality is superb! When I heard my first MP3, I turned around to check whether the band was in my room... well, almost :p Anyway, great sound quality, great features (or at least for my needs since I'm not a gamer and do not really need EAX and the shiznit), a definitive 5 stars, especially when compared with Creative drivers who were supposed to do a decent job since it's their product, but unfortunately only managed to piss me off.

I've been using the alpha for quite some time (3536 had problems with HT). 3537 beta doesnt have those problems anymore. Great drivers.

The first install went wrong, no sound! But after being sick of creatives drivers I read almost every posting on the kx forum. Fresh install & Damn!! I could kick my own a** for not reading the help file included. I'm not a muscician but I know Hi-Fi Sound. This is the difference between night and day. I don't give reviews unless it amazes me, Good or Bad. Trust your ears and don't waste another day. I can finally listen to my favorite music and be in awe of what a cheap set of computer speakers can do with superior audio processing. Thank You kxAudio!

The program has a lot of controls, but after I installed it I could not get my mic to work no matter what I did. The audio was good, I wouldnt say it was superior to the Creative drivers I have. I had to uninstall it and re-installed my Creative drivers and mixer to get my mic to work again. So for what its worth proceed with caution on this one, its good if you can get it to work properly. But for me there were far too many controls, I prefer a simple mixer for my needs.

When it comes to the "musician's stuff", this driver is much better than Creative's. I'm using it since the last two years and it is the only way to get low (2 msec) crackle-free ASIO latency on average PC, VST automation, multiple soundcards support and an endless amount of other features.

skua

skua reviewed v5.10.0.3535 on Oct 21, 2003

Been using these for about 7 months now... while they might not support every whiz-bang feature crammed into your card they do WORK and SOUND GREAT.

For anyone suffering with Creative drivers that won't install or reporting that your sound card isn't installed... just throw these kX drivers on and your card will work. If not for these drivers I would have had to throw away a SBLive and an Audigy 1 that Creative can't seem to support.

Shame on Creative. BRAVO to the kX Audio team!

I cannot tell you in words how good this driver is compared to the original creative piece of god-d*** crap. The only one I would NOT recommend this driver to is those who are alot into games. Anyone else will benefit from this driver surely. Oh btw, if you don't like alot of controls you might not like it either :P

These driveres are pretty good , BUT do not forget these drivers are intented for Music makers. Midi composers , and that stuff. BUT for gamers are NOT intended , taking in count that you may become more problems with EAX HDD , EAX advanced, or Aureal 3D Games.

Those drivers are insanely good. You get total control of your card. They also "emulate" 4 virtual cards, completement independant. Easy 5 stars.
