  1. Review - Windows 7 in a Box

    1.0 (Feb 15, 2012)

ummm, based on the authors "homepage" I am skeptical this app is even remotely legit. What idiot on BetaNews found this?

  2. Review - Ubuntu

    11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) (Oct 13, 2011)

I went to do a minimal installation to build up from scratch (as I always do) and upon downloading the base system, I received NUMEROUS missing package errors and was unable to grab them off the repositories. Either everyone is doing the same thing or these packages are simply not there yet. Unacceptable to me for these are boot loader and other core system files needed to operate properly. Cannot rate a system higher than a failure if I cannot even get past the initial installation!! First time I've EVER written anything but a 5 star review for Ubuntu, very dishartening and frustrating!

  3. Review - Wine

    1.3.30 Development (Oct 11, 2011)

"Slipped it in - ...Even the various paid versions of Wine that some companies sell doesn't fix this."

Ummm, you do realize WINE is open source? If you're paying for a version of "WINE" than you got yourself ripped off!

  4. Review - Ubuntu

    11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) Beta 2 (Sep 26, 2011)

Excellent as always. I prefer the non Unity based desktop or a Gnome 3 upgrade or even Openbox, but the kernel additions, and backend is perfect as always. Love it.

  5. Review - Ubuntu

    11.04 (Natty Narwhal) (May 2, 2011)

@FatBasterd Linux Mint is a derivative of Ubuntu. Being such, Linux Mint is always a trail behind for they have to wait for Ubuntu Final before they release their next version. You can get the same results by installing whatever window manager you like in Mint to your Ubuntu install and it will be virtually identical.

This release is great, just as all the last. Continues to improve and is certainly one of my top favorite distributions.

  6. Comment - Is Windows 8's app store better late than never?

    11.04 (Natty Narwhal) (Aug 19, 2011 - 8:30 AM)

DaveN - That why MS developed Active Directory with Group Policy's so that you can determin what a user can or cannot do. The App Store will be no different. Just don't make the daily end users Admin's and you should be fine :)

This of course is assuming your small business is running off of a server and not a peer to peer network ;)

  7. Comment - Is Windows 8's app store better late than never?

PhoenixPath - I actually laughed out loud on that one :)

  8. Comment - Is Windows 8's app store better late than never?

"I first recommended an app store to Microsoft product managers about 7 years ago, when working as an analyst for JupiterResearch." I'm sure you're top of their development contact list. Apple would be S.O.L. if Microsoft hired Joe Wilcox of BetaNews to head up their R&D.

  9. Comment - Is Windows 8's app store better late than never?

    11.04 (Natty Narwhal) (Aug 19, 2011 - 8:24 AM)

"Microsoft's app store revived developer excitement about Windows; helped them to make more money (by diminishing piracy)" Hasn't held true with Apple, someone will most likely crack the MS store apps just as they do with the disc based retail versions. An online App store will not change that.

  10. Comment - iPad kills HP TouchPad, is BlackBerry PlayBook next?

    11.04 (Natty Narwhal) (Aug 19, 2011 - 8:21 AM)

"iPad kills HP TouchPad, is BlackBerry PlayBook next?" Most likely.
