Dear medium and small businesses, please tell us whats the difference between this firewall and ,,normal,, desktop firewall for PC? Why do not install separate apps? More money in your pockets? So what? Simply overprice.

I think, that this firewall the best for networks under management windows. Or on server with windows.

Sorry for the confusion. The product description has been updated. Kerio did use to have a free personal firewall, but this is a unified gateway solution for small to medium networks.

It is not just a firewall and router, but it comes with a suite of solutions that administrators can manage in one box.

For that price it must have something good about it.

Kinda priced to high, I agree. Get a router at half the price, and a good firewall. Comodo, Zonealarm, and etc.

Shame their professional product doesn't follow in the same lines as their home product (did). Kerio (now Sunbelt) Personal Firewall is a kick-ass solution for home users, IMO.

I personally an tired of seeing companys say there software is "shareware" then post a price of $399.00.

Sorry folks ANYTHING over $50.00 is _*NOT*_ Shareware, at $50.00 and above it becomes a COMERCIAL DEMO.

Apart from lousy technical support and a handful of undocumented limitations, Kerio is a pretty solid firewall and NAT program.

Kerio's support never answers e-mails or 'support tickets' on their websites. I found out the hard way when I noticed Kerio using 100% CPU whenever large files are transfered to and from the network. I checked out their support forum and found that everyone else was having the same problem and apparently the only advice Kerio had was to install WinRoute on a dedicated computer!

How is that even a solution? We have a 100Mbit internet connection (shared by about 100 employees, far less than the licensing of WinRoute suggests can support) and we often transfer large video files and have video conferences. How is Kerio WinRoute limiting us to 2MB/s a design feature? Whenever Kerio is installed our 8MB/s connection turns into a 2MB/s!

Stay off this unless you don't mind slowing your computer down massively!

Kerio busted this version just like ZoneAlarm did to its own version 5.x. Use and watch Windows freeze - over and over and over. But if you uninstall it, all the freezes stop! Sygate Personal Firewall is far stronger and easier to configure.

Winroute v4.2.x is a great piece of software and it's still available for download. Winroute FIREWALL 5.x though, is a whole other thing. It's buggy and hard to configurate. It's turned bloated and annoying in every kind of way, so my only fair recommendation would be to stick to 4.x or find an alternative, yuck! ;)

well, the Kerio 5..if you can't get it to share the internet connection with the other pc's i know why it is. but, it's not a failure of the software, mail to mrgenie@gmx.de and I'll explain what you've done wrong.
2nd, i use it to share a 54MBit internet connection to 60other people, it works flawless!!!! it's very hard though to get the right configuration..i mean, it's not for rookies, you need to know what you're doin!

Wrong, wrong, wrong! Version 5 DOES NOT INCLUDE THE EMAIL SERVER! They have spun it off to a stand alone product. Also, I could never get version 5 to allow traffic out of the network, even after upgrading from a fully functional verion 4 (which did have an excellent mail server built in. I tried their wizard, doing rules myself, still couldn't get it to allow outbound traffic from any PC but the one it was running on. I have been running version 4 since it came out, and was MUCH easier to set up.

much more performant than win 2000 NAT routing & a good Stealth firewall built in

This program works very well. I am running it under win98 and have no problems whatsoever. It is not the simplest thing to set up, but once you do it runs without fault. I share my DSL connection with 6 other people and feel absolutely no slowdown with WinRoute. I was recommended MS's Internet Connection Sharing (which happens to be very easy to setup) but it comes with a HUGE problem. The connections speed it cut in half if you try to use it. I ran download tests with ICS and WinRoute. WinRoute performs its job without taking up and connection resourses. Its also 700k, which is a pleasant thing to see in this world of bloatware.

Hi have an NT server running WinRoute 4.1 Pro and I share a dialup connection with 3 other machines. The proxy server ans mail administration work well and it's easy to configure, even for a non techincal person. As a matter of fact I am posting this review via Winroute 4.1 proxy server.
Great program to share a dial up connection.
