I've had nothing but problems with Firefox 39.0 (using on my MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8). In order to quit, I have to force quit. It freezes up continually. I'm about to uninstall it and start using a different browser. I'd give it a 0 stars if I could.

Here's the first review in 3 years.
This version is smooth and fast performing, literally taking many of it's looks and ideas directly from Google Chrome.
Along with smooth performance comes better memory management.
Firefox is probably the most configurable browser as well.

Seems to work great with Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and updating Firefox from ver 14.

Appears to have flawless integration.

Doesn't work on Tiger (MacOS X 10.4.x for the non-cognoscenti...), hence the low rating. It's a shame really: Mozilla is following in Google's footsteps when it comes to Apple OSes, and forgets that not all Mac users can or want to switch to Snow Leopard. Might as well spit in our eye... Take Opera as the (perfect) counter-example, they who have recently launched a new version of their browser that's really multi-platform. Shame on you, Gorgonzilla! (pardon the cheesy pun...)

In my opinion Firefox doesn't even compare to Camino: www.caminobrowser.org . Even better in my eyes is webkit: www.webkit.org . Webkit is the fastest browser I have found for Mac & is updated several times per week.
Back to Firefox, I have tried Firefox 2 & 3beta. My experience was not good. The layout of browser menus & such drove me crazy. The browser was slower than Camino to open & slower to load webpages. This is on my 1gz imac with 1gig ram.

The flexibility is the key here and anti-phishing support is important, as well. The developers have been cleaning up the Gecko renderer and crashing is all but a distant memory. Using version 2.x with Leopard instantly improves text display, which seems odd, since Mozilla didn't change anything in Leopard. Has Apple been holding back all this time to make third parties look bad?

Version 3.0 is still about two months out and truly improves all facets of the browser.

It's quite a bit better than earlier beta releases. The new theme was a bit shocking with its all silver/graphite look, but it will please the Safari crowd in that it doesn't look anything like something on Windows. (They'll still complain anyway.)

Performance is good but still has a way to go before it's ready for everyone. Startup and shutdown of the browser is slow. Once launched, it's quite speedy--faster than the current Safari but not the Safari beta.

Apparently, memory leaks have been addressed strongly and that's helped a lot to aid stability. It really doesn't feel like a beta but add-ons still don't work.

Gran Paradiso is a huge improvement over the previous version of Firefox. The Cocoa interface makes Firefox comparable to the speeds of Camino, and switching through tabs is way faster than on Windows or Linux versions. Considering all the improvements Firefox's going to have, this version is going to be the most anticipated release ever.

Firefox is bloated and slow. Safari blows it out of the water. Also, Firefox fanboys are incredibly annoying.

As good as Safari is, the extension setup for Firefox is what makes it worth looking at.

Before I found SAFARIBLOCK, I was relying heavily on Firefox because of the adblocking capabilities. It's annoying in Safari that I can't drag and drop to reorder tabs and also that I can't set it to have new tabs from links (middle click on a link) open right next to the current tab.

I like the default interface of Safari much better, but am glad that I could find a skin for Firefox that makes it basically look the same.

I like how Safari makes interface elements in web pages look like Mac OS X native controls, and I like the right mouse button options that Safari has for things like looking up selected words in the dictionary, or opening the selected in a google search, etc. but the extensions and themes offered by Firefox do make it worth exploring. It also does a better job of rendering some fonts on some pages, like the Drudge Report, for example.

I appreciate that I have options and will hopefully be able to run both Safari and Firefox side by side so that one will be there to handle what the other cannot, and vice-versa.

I do wish that some extensions were more MAC friendly (like Tab Mix - thank goodness I found Tab Mix Plus) but Kudos to the team for at least continuing the effort.

The Windows and Linux versions are absolutely awesome copies of Safari, with nice UI's for adding plugins and themes. They even include Mac OS X's open/save dialogue window for bookmarks, Apple's awesome Customize Toolbar format (except missing the cool slide-into-view) but otherwise the UI looks terrible and acts badly compared to Safari.
If a lot of their inspiration came from Safari, why switch? At least until they make it *better* than safari. You can change 2 or 3 options you cant in Safari, but I happen to always end up coming back to Safari's default behaviour, and then realising I may as well just use Safari itself...

Finally Safari has some competition!

a few things I'd like to see before the official 1.0 release:
1. STOP trying to have firefox-bin call www.paypal.com everytime Firefox is launched. (this single behavior will be enough to keep me from switching to Firefox)
2. Speed up the inital load time when starting (Safari is about 2x faster at starting up)
3. A true Mac-esque interface & buttons.

#2 and #3 are trivial compared to #1. PLEASE make Firefox stop this nefarious connecting to PayPal.

Firefox blows me away. Even Mac users are being tempted to set Safari aside for Firefox's amazing customizability and innovative features.

With a few GUI improvements that others have mentioned, Firefox will blend in seamlessly with other rock solid Mac applications.

Keep up the great work Mozilla!!

Firefox is my default web browser. But still, here is what I still don't like:

On Mac OS X:
- Apple+M: Will bring up mail client and not minimize.

- Middle clicking on links doesn't open links in new tabs or windows.

- Aqua, we miss Aqua.

- Close tab button is on top right of the whole window, and not on every tab like Safari. We want this.

- The RSS reading still need some work to make it more user friendly, again, very nice attempt.

Firefox is really heading to be the best web browser on Earth. Unlike others who are good only to claim things.

I use Firefox on Windows and Mac OS X, and believe that this is a fantastic browser for either platform.

IE lacks proper support for XHTML, CSS, PNG, and a slew of other features that better browsers like Firefox, Opera, and Safari support. If more people would use a browser better than IE, then web designers and developers would be able to provide more people a much better experience than you can get with IE.

If you think IE "just works", then you have no idea what you've been missing. Not only does Firefox have better support for technical issues, but it offers fantastic built-in features like tabbed browsing, popup blocking, smarter searching, faster responsiveness, RSS support, and a level of security that IE simply can't match.

I've been using Firefox since v0.5, and the browser does nothing but get better and better with each new release. The only minor issues are that this release hasn't yet been "Aquafied", but is expected to be in time for the 1.0 Final release.

Rating: A++ and a Gold Star!

I've been using both Safari and Firefox for over a year, and with this version, Firefox has become my default OS X browser (it's been my main browser on WinXP and Linux for a while).

For one thing, I have a _lot_ of bookmarks in my toolbar, and it was getting to the point where there was a noticible delay in opening a bookmark menu under Safari, but Firefox remains very quick. Firefox also renders pages noticibly faster than Safari. And the extensions available to Firefox are great, some of them are pretty amazing, like EditCSS which allows you to edit the CSS for a page in the sidebar and see the layout changes on the fly.

Excellent software.
