Zoomplayer is the GOD of all PC video players. It creates the gold-standard for all other video players to be benchmarked to.

Make no mistake, this is the best HTPC video player on the market, hands down. It is stable, configurable in every way imaginable and controllable from a remote using Eventghost or girder.

Ignore these nincompoops below. They are purposely decreasing the rating for some reason

Best video player ever. Nothing even comes close and I've tried all of them (including MPC-HC + VLC + GOM + KMplayer)

Used to be a supporter but now that they released the premium edition, they are charging users for features which USED TO BE part of the pro version I purchased. What a ripoff.

Awesome. Worth the money for some.

Basically, I pretty much use FFDSHOW audio and video decoders for most video. I installed my external decoders via the latest CCCP.

I still have KMPlayer, WMP11, WMP Classic etc. but Zoom Player was the only one that allowed me to get every last thing just the way I want it. One notable thing is dual audio and subtitles. I typed "english" in Settings to allow English audio even if another language like Japanese is first. On my Control bar I can quickly toggle the Subtitles and audio if need be. Anamorphic Matroska is another thing not all players have. There's too much to mention.

I've never had a single stability issue in two years with any version and I've tried all of them.

Honestly, very few people need to purchase this, but I bought it a couple years ago and just love it. I'm happy to see that changing version numbers didn't require me to upgrade like some programs I bought in the past.

Perfect for my needs! Very configurable and stable.

Absolutely amazing media and DVD player. Taking advantage of the unending amount of tweaks and options available, and combined with filters such as FFDshow the video quality in better than 99% of aa media players available. The only downside is the high pricepoint, because we all know about 25+ free media players that will do the job, just not as well.

Excellent program that works very well out-of-the-box for novice users as well as incorporate a LOT of options for those who love to customize everything they can and get the BEST results.

This player is so fine - it is open about how it works & what codecs it needs (it will tell you at install time what common codecs are missing) & setting up playlists & configurations is very user-friendly.

I recommend it for your home theater pc. You can control the program just using the mouse. I have ZP installed on my HTPC and thanks to ZP i dont need an other (ir) remote control watching the movies, just a wireless mouse is enough :)

Okay roj... this is not a debate forum. Your opinion on Zoom Player is welcome and valid however posting a second review of the same program because you didn't organize your thoughts in the first post and find you forgot something is bogus. Furthermore posting a 3rd time on the same version just to respond to criticism is even more bogus. Your fubaring up the score by doing that. If you forgot something or you have a response to criticism about you review then please bite your lounge and wait for the next version to come out.

Anyway as for my review of this new version of Zoom Player. Yes it's true MPC is a great program. intact most of us ZP users also have that program on our systems as well. But ya know... MPC and ZP aren't even in the same damn ballpark. they have totally different mission objectives. If your just going to watch movies on your PC and you don't care about control then MPC, Core, BS, and even good ole WMP are probably better players for you. Zoom Player is designed with the HTPC enthusiast in mind. it is optimized for display on television sets and it is designed for people that like to have direct control over media playback. As for open sourcing ZP. Theres plenty of resins this isn't going to happen that I can think of but I wont put that here. However ZP is the next best thing to open source. It's community ware. If you have a feature you would like to see included in Zoom Player just post it on the forums feature request board and 9 times out of 10 it's going to get put in or Blight will do his best to work with you on an alternative. Probably half the current features in Zoom Player are user requested (many are mine) so all the people that like to say ZP is bloated with useless options need to knock it off. it;s it;s in ZP it is useful even if it is only a select few.

Im using ZP for ages and i liked the fact that u can bind to almost any function. Now i can access all my Media and the players functions using a remote control.
Unfortunately they moved some quite handy functions from standart to pro version (like browsing files) so I will stick with 3.00 for now.

You're right - I don't give a damn, especially since MPC is open source. If that author reverse engineered the code and made the source freely available (as is becoming increasingly common these days, a real source of fear to those championing proprietary systems), I can definitely understand the nervousness and disdain ascribed to such efforts by those who took the other road, *especially when the other folks build a better mousetrap*.

MPC uses an illegal MPEG2 decoder filter without paying any of the licensing fees involved to the DVD Consortium. Sure, you probably don't give a damn, but Zoom Player is a commercial product, unlike MPC and getting sued is more of an issue.

I must admit I get caught up in the enthusiasm surrounding this player everytime there is a new release, and try it. Everytime I am dissapointed: way too complicated, does not work in the video overlay. Other players do a better job and are much simpler. I will stick to Media Player Classic and Crystal Player.

The next version should simplify some of the features. But seriously, MPC/WMP don't have most of these features.

The default values of Zoom Player do work well, you don't need to mess around with anything in order to get standard media to play anymore than you need to configure any other media player.

Woah! I'm still a ZoomPlayer user, but its only a matter of time before I switch. The sheer number of options has made this program hard to use, I bet *nobody* knows or uses a fraction of all the options. Why? Not only are there so many, but they are cumbersome to access and scattered across 9 "Navigators" and 7 "Dialogs", and a menu with 7 submenus. The author BADLY needs to: 1. Stop adding features for now. 2. Rethink the UI and try to make more of the features accessible to users who dont spend hours upon hours of learning this program. 3. Some tips: context-specific menus - not just a rightclick menu. Buttons with multiple functions. Wizards for setting up options. More automation. Sensible defaults. A Normal and Advanced User mode. Emulating other UIs - MPC and Windows Media Player come to mind.
4. Above all remember people want to play their media, take advantage of some of ZP's cool options without spending hours learning everything.
In other words: tidy up the UI and add usability or lose more users. Making the DVD-capable version shareware was bad enough.

Orlando, thats not what the feature your talking about is for. its for you to be able to manually go in and type out a url for it to open. For the record as well Zoomplayer will ignore urls in files by default as well.

I personally prefer Media Player Classic. I was reading the list of changes for this release of Zoom Player and it said, "New OpenURL function". That is the ONE thing that I hate about most media players...opening up and automatically going to some web address (URL) that was embedded in a media file. These URL's are almost always SPAM URL's and usually open up window after window after window and popup windows all over the place. Media Player Classic completely ignores web addresses that are embedded in media files (MP3, MPG, RM, QT, etc).

A verry good player but too many features to configure, and hlp missing from it... I preffer Media Player Classic and BSPlayer which support subtitles. The only minus of this player is: too many options.

Good program however the nag screen "press 1-2-3" can cause conflicts with multiple montior configs. When switching from multiple to single monitor setup, Zplayer fails to reset window location, but will not allow you to choose that ability from box on windows toolbar, because its waiting for the 1-2-3 nag screen menu. If you right click systray icon and reset position from there, zplayer crashes. Moral of the story, annoying nag screens cause problems when put into good software thats better off without them.
