Maxthon is a powerful web browser with a highly customizable interface. It is based on the Internet Explorer engine which means that what works in IE, works the same in Maxthon but with many additional efficient features like Tabbed Browsing Interface; Mouse Gestures; Super Drag&Drop; Privacy Protection; AD Hunter; Google Bar Support; External Utility Bar; and Skinning.
The Standard version only has a basic set of plugins and skins.

ZOMG! Did they really release a newer version of Maxthon Classic? Hooray!

A fantastic application. I'm glad that they keep developing 1.6.x in parallel with Maxthon 2.
BTW, I've been told that you can install Maxthon 1.6.x in Vista and IE 7 and even Windows 7 and IE 8 and not lose one single bit of functionality. If that's true, then I can keep using Maxthon 1.6.x for many years to come!
Nice...

Wonderful program! Not as feature-packed or snappy as Maxthon 2.x, but definitely the 2nd best IE shell out there. I don't know what all the squawking is about "security". Stay off the pron, gambling, and kiddie gaming sites and you're 100% safe. Even if you do sleep around, Maxthon will protect you from phishing, ActiveX, and scripts. Your firewal and AV will get the rest. I think it's just FF fanboys doing doing all the complaining. Interestingly, tests show that there is virtually no difference in security between IE7 and FF, and IE is faster. Try Maxthon 1 or 2. They do everything that FF should do, and without needing to wrangle a bunch of silly plugins.

These shells would be more acceptable if they were built on a secure foundation. IE7 isn't that secure foundation, so as you go about your business you are running the same risks as all who use any version of IE7. Fortunately IE8 is just around the corner and that may be the secure foundation you and We have been waiting for. I gave it a 3 as I have tried it in the past, but will never venture out with it until it's safe to do so.
