It is based on the Internet Explorer engine which means that what works in IE, works the same in Maxthon but with many additional efficient features like Tabbed Browsing Interface; Mouse Gestures; Super Drag&Drop; Privacy Protection; AD Hunter; Google Bar Support; External Utility Bar; and Skinning.

Maxthon sucks without the window frame! Still using 2.15 the last one that has it. Bring it back! Even version 3 does not have a window frame. Looks like it never will.

Maxthon is simply THE BEST, and anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't done a fair comparison. I've used them all and only Firefox even approaches the foothills of Maxthon,
However, that doesn't mean that Maxthon and its developers aren't infuriating. The two biggest problems are that Maxthon 1x is better than Maxthon 2x at what it does, but Maxthon 2x does so much more that you can't use 1x anymore, so you have to sacrifice things like a better "groups' function in 1x, and a much easier and form filler in 1x as well.
Even worse is the fact that Maxthon has no help file and trying to get in in their forum has become impossible as you now have to have some rank in order to even post a question and there's no explanation as to how to get that - IMMEDIATELY! because they recently screwed up their most convenient feature - the auto-hiding sidebar so the only way to get it to work properly is to not use the browser in fullscreen mode and move it left so a few pixels are of-screen - and Maxthon doesn't hold that position when you reopen it. A little program called WinSize solves the problem for the most part.
So what then Makes Maxthon 2x better by far? Just about everything, including the defective sidebar that gives you quick and better access to favorites than Firefox. And the Speed Dial plugin is terrific, though the one that comes built-in is merely good.
I love the aforementioned groups function (though 1x is way better, but you can look under "File" in 2x, and create a "Save Sessions" button that approximates the 1x group function), the plugins selection is terrific and very few are needed since the browser itself does so much. Ad-blocking is as good and simple as any available.
So I'm hopeful that Maxthon 3x will incorporate the best of 1 & 2, but in the meantime, Maxthon 2x is the standard by which all others are measured - and fail.

Hmmm tekk. I could have got a lot out of your review if you didn't waste it all on slamming other browsers. Your key words, "for the masses", is correct. They will not use Maxthon because they have other things to do, unlike yourself. The "masses" use IE cause all they do is go to Facebook and check their Hotmail. I use Maxthon and have talked to others about it and all they ask me is if they are as good as Maxi Pads. I give it a five just for that.

Version 2.5.10.2994 - I have used every browser ever made, and given them hours and months of test time to make a fair assessment, and Maxthon is by far my favorite browser of all time. Farewell to all the cry babys who go to Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. Yes, the Trident engine of Internet Explorer does leave many things to be desired, but the intuitive intelligent interface of Maxthon cannot be beat, and nobody can touch it. I have spent months and months over the past 5 years with the latest Firefox releases, it is up to 3.5.5 now. I have pored over thousands of extensions, plugins, and add-ons, and done my very best to build myself a custom Firefox user interface that can run as intuitively and fast, as I have come to rely upon using a Maxthon installation. I have spent 18 hour days, weeks at a time, with little to no sleep, and nothing but time on my side. It simply cannot be done. By the time you get Firesux more than a dozen or so extensions, add-ons, toolbars, and plugins, the user interface looks ugly like it was drawn by a drunken, cross-eyed, photoshop-phile on a meth binge. Firesux runs slower than a 15 year old FORD truck on a 20 below zero morning in Anchorage, and I'm sure it leaves as much a carbon footprint with all the cycles on my quadcore processor and 6GB of RAM, which literally grinds to a halt under the load. The masses can have their browser, those of us who know Maxthon is superior will be happy with our secret, and not be weighed down with that stoned, sinking, fuel burning albatross known as Firesux.

Inniosoft, next version of Maxthon(v3) which is still in alpha phase has dual engine support (both trident and webkit) and so it will cater for wider audience.
This version(v2) works fine for me.
