Publisher's Description

Software Catalog helps you to manage your computer applications. Most applications have associated web sites where updated versions of the program are available. Some of those reguire login names and passwords to access the latest software. This makes it quite difficult to keep track of the latest versions of all your installed software. It brings all the necessary information for version tracking into one location. It stores general application information including the version number, registration information, application web sites, the date you last checked for a software update, and much more.

Kudron and chaos945 are a little confused. Kudron said that after he ran the program he was immediately asked for a product key stating that the trial period has expired. Here is an exact copy of what the screen said:

This program is not free. It is an evaluation version of copyrighted software.

“You have 30 day(s) remaining. If you use Software Catalog beyond the evaluation period, you are expected to register it with Owl King Publishing, LLC.

Click the Buy Now! button to purchase a Software Catalog registration key by check, money order, or credit card.”

After booting the program a small screen comes up with a window with a count down timer (about 10 seconds) and it gives you three choices.

1. Press ok. The button won’t work until you wait the ten seconds.
2. Enter Key (for registration after you have purchased said product)
3. Buy Now! Button.

So that is how you get the program to start. Problem solved.

Chaos945 said that “it’s is a lot of work cataloguing all the necessary information you'd want, most of it is manual data entry, which is not fun. If it were freeware or if it had a built in database it would be worth it.”

This is also not true. When the program fist came up it asks if you want to start a new catalog and I said yes. Then it asked me where I wanted to look for the “program files.” As a default is says do you want these file added? And that place is “C:\Program Files” on my computer and I clicked on yes. It immediately found every program I have on my computer. It did it quickly and completely. I can also tell the program where else to find programs to add to the catalog, including my CDROM drives or other external devices. I have just used it for only about 10 minutes so I haven’t decided if I really need this program yet. I just wanted to clarify some things.

People need to read more carefully and follow directions before making false claims. I’m sure that they didn’t do it on purpose but it’s not fair to the developer. If they said they didn’t like the program because it couldn’t do legitimate things then that would be a different story. More news later folks.

Download the program, ran the program, and immediately asks for a product key stating that the trial period has expired.

Could be useful for network admins. But it is a lot of work cataloguing all the necessary information you'd want, most of it is manual data entry, which is not fun. If it were freeware or if it had a built in database it would be worth it.
