Made it portable. File extensions needed attention. (Not easy for a noob).

A compendium of Apps Compiled into an Installer. It's the same old story.
If it aint broke, Don't fix it. Way too many of these Apps about, & a sure
way to wreck a system. $40 Bucks - 40 Schmucks.... Zilch*

Very limited trial. Seems you can only select files one at a time, not sure if that changes in the full version. Seems a shame and a wate of time if not.

The trial product kept freezing when trying to do any task with the registry.

Not over impressed.

What a great program! It has got a great interface, registry & disk cleanup and a registry defragmenter. So far the best cleaning app I have tested!

We have since greatly improved the program and the support. We had some problems with the mail server at the time which unfortunately left many emails unanswered.

YES - this version works slowly, if you use the KASPERSKY AVP 3.5xx under WIN98/ME. This was reproduce.
And the next; every time a new release from "System Cleaner". But not write WATHS NEW into this release.

smartins

smartins reviewed v4.83 on Nov 11, 2002

True, the software is packed, not to reduce the file size, but to prevent cracks and hacks of the program. With over one million installations this is the first time someone complains about the program speed at startup. We have Norton Antivirus running on the background on all our test machines and we never experienced any showdown. Since Random Access Memory is much faster than the HD scanning 1 Mb is almost un-noticeable. Perhaps you have other software on the background slowing your system. In any case, please contact us so that we can investigate further on this issue.

Dirk van Hoofen

Dirk van Hoofen reviewed v4.83 on Oct 26, 2002

Sorry, but this actually version make the system very slowly.
Why? - The reason consists in it, because the .EXE file was packed with ASPACK. If you start it, the virusscanner must scan all and recompiled it into the memory. Then it must analyse the code.
So it works slowly as it is necessary.
First I think, my system (WIN 98) was hang - but the reason is really the file.

baarsel: I'm not giving any excuse. I gave a simple explanation of why and how the program works. Doesn't seem to me as an excuse. Regarding the freeware alternatives, why don't you then include some of the titles that offer the same features as System Cleaner and are free?

baarsel

baarsel reviewed v4.78 Build 74 on Jun 7, 2002

Seems the rating is only this "high" because of the five stars the developer gives with every excuse he posts :-) Tried the program, doesn't add any extra to the freeware alternatives!

Here's what is needed in a truly useful cleanup program! There are currently no *really good cleanup programs!

1. A FOLDER CLEANUP LIST, listing folders from which all files and (optionally) sub folders can be purged.
-------------------------------------------------------
This is possible with System Cleaner. Just go to "Clean My Computer" and select the "Clean directories and cache files"
To change/add/remove folders go to "Options" - "Directories"

2. A GLOBAL SEARCH LIST of common trash files to be periodically purged.
---------------------------------------------------
Also possible. "Clean My Computer" - "Find and remove junk and obsolete files"

3. A search EXCLUDE LIST so no time is wasted searching through folders that do not collect rubbish or special folders (such as _RESTORE, RECYCLED, etc).
------------------------------------------------------
Also a feature of System Cleaner. You can add folders to be excluded on "Options" - "Temporary Files", "Options" - "Duplicate Files" (only available on the expert mode).

4. Files and folders will be deleted or recycled as you choose.
-------------------------------------------------------
With System Cleaner you can:
Move files to recycle bin, Delete files, Backup to folder and ZIP to folder. If you use the backup or zip to you will you can restore the files after they have been deleted using the "Restore Wizard".

5. Above actions can be done on a schedule, or on startup, after which the program exits from memory.
--------------------------------------------------
The scheduler will be included on the next major build.

6. The above options seem sparse, but will do cleanup chores that most cleanup programs do. In the interest of simplicity and safety, the program should have few other options. (bobad@mindspring.com)
-----------------------------------------------------
I'm allways interested on receive comments about the program! After all, it was designed with the simplicity and features in mind. It's up to the users to say what they want added or fixed.

The GUI is very easy to use, and overall System Cleaner does a good job. Although, the settings confused me, there were some options there that left me wondering. And, I don't agree totally on how System Cleaner searchs for un-needed files. Any file that didn't have a description on my system showed up as a file that can be deleted, this included files that belonged to my sound card drivers. It also shows almost every Windows log that happens to be a .txt file as deletable. Not something I would normally delete, unless I had better information. Including some sort of resource to educate users (like me) on what files are usually okay to delete, and ones you should try to avoid.

smartins

smartins reviewed v4.0.0.5 on Mar 4, 2001

My goal is to provide a very easy to use and intuitive interface to System Cleaner 2001. The GUI has been completely changed from version 3.x to 4.0 but it was based only on my "opinion".
I'm releasing beta versions in order to sort every bug, user complain and add features users need.
So, if you have any comment or bug report PLEASE send it to me (support@oxisoft.com) and I'll look into it.
Remember, your opinion does count!

This program has a pretty GUI, but is really confusing for such simple tasks. The multi-page format make it difficult to focus and find the next task. I have gone through about 25 "cleanup" programs, and this is the only one that have problems learning. I still have not found a program that does everything well. All I want to do at Windows start is delete trash files, delete files and folders in windows\temp and other chosen folders, an exclude for files and folders, and close itself quietly. I would like a pretty fast engine too. Would you believe I have not found 1 single program that does all this yet?

Everything loaded well, and the program ran fine, except for the duplicate files scan. Istarted well and quickly found 12 files, then seemed to be done, but it was also acting as if it was searching some more yet after an hour,it was no further. My guess would be a small bug there, since I'm running Windows 98,I'd have not thought it would have any problems. Still a decent program though.

From the developer of System Cleaner 2000: Our main download site (infortechsolutions.com) have been experiencing problems today. At this time it's down but our webhosting company assured us that they are correcting the problem as we speak. I'm sorry for this problem. I'll try to find mirrors where people can download the program (if anyone knows where I can get free ftp space please let me know). Thank's for the nice reviews.
