  1. Review - JavaRa

    2.0 Beta 2 (Mar 14, 2012)

Very confusing interface. You go to click on remove old versions and it tells you that its going to remove the newest version as well. There are three ways to check on which version you have with no recommendations as to which to use. Even online help is confusing. In the end I seem to have wound up with just the newest version but I can't help but think that I made a few wrong turns on the way to getting there. They need to simplify. Get New and Get Rid Of Old. Those should be the only buttons and they should only do what the name implies they will do.

  2. Review - MediaInfo

    0.7.48 (Aug 18, 2011)

Much ado about nothing. If you don't want OpenCandy just go to MediaInfo's website and download one of the "without installer" versions.

  3. Review - GoodSync

    8.5.0.5 (Dec 29, 2010)

I tried it out and liked it and bought it and used it for about 6 months. In all that time one thing irked me about the program - you had to manually go in and remove any time you had a condition where your source and destination files were both deleted. If you didn't the screen would fill with DELETED=DELETED listings. I wrote Support and they told me that would be fixed in Version 9. Now they are showing off their Version 9 beta and it appears that they have changed entirely the way the program works. It is going to be based on the client/server concept now. That's fine if you are dealing within one computer or multiple computers on a network but it will not work for me as I'm connecting to media boxes. I'm guessing that it won't work if you are using a NAS server either. There's nothing there that you can run the client side software on. I'm now using Allways Sync and my DELETED=DELETED problems are finally over.

  4. Review - Allway Sync

    9.1.7 (Dec 29, 2010)

I took the time to read the EULA about the program being free after I downloaded the file to try out. It clearly states that if you process more than 40,000 files in a 30 day period you have to purchase the program. Knowing what I was going to use it for I knew I would have to pay for it since I was going to be dealing with that much or more files in any given month. I tried out the program and it did everything I wanted it to do and more unlike the other program I had previously bought, GoodSync. I purchased Allway Sync in a day after trying it out and I have no regrets whatsoever still.

  5. Review - RoboForm

    7.1.2 (Dec 28, 2010)

I'm not at all happy with their trickery. I bought version 6 in July. According to the site I could get a free upgrade to 7 if I bought after September 1st. I don't even get upgrade ability for a full year? I won't get into it here but I stopped using their Goodsync after paying for it due to some other trickery on their part. Anyway, I'm back to version 6 of Roboform and staying there. I had to re-download the file and I was surprised to find that they had a new version of 6 available on the site with a date of Dec 26th. So, if you are sticking with 6 be sure to grab that one as I'm guessing it will be the last one we'll ever get.
Rating - the program gets a 5 but the trickery is worth -2.
