  1. Review - Nero

    5.5.9.17 (Nov 1, 2002)

Definitely the best...only things I want are Ogg support and, perhaps, a custom install.

  2. Review - Adobe Reader for Windows

    5.1 (Oct 22, 2002)

Sucks. Way too huge for a program that's simply a file viewer. Does anyone know of an alternative to this OTHER THAN previous versions of Acrobat Reader?

  3. Review - AOL Instant Messenger for Windows

    5.0.2867 Beta (Jul 10, 2002)

Blows...There is no need for half of the things in this program. Just a waste of RAM for a chat program...still waiting on a nice, lite, AIM solution.

  4. Comment - Windows Longhorn Alpha Leaks to the Web

VisionX, just for the sake of playing devil's advocate, you know that the case against Microsoft hinged less around Microsoft's market share, and more around their (allegedly) anti-competitive measures used to make sure they could keep said market share.

CPUGuy, if you thing someone who doesn't purchase Office to be cheap, then you must have an incredible amount of money...

But it is a bit unfair to say that the average PC user has the option of getting external SCSI, firewire, or USB 2.0 simple because of the cost involved. Hell, if those things were integral to my computer experience, I'd have to go with a Mac just for the fact that it would be cheaper.

Also, this is one of those arguments that can just go on forever, with all the PC lovers and Mac lovers coming out and supporting their platform of choice. Anything can be done in either platform. There is nothing you can do on a PC running Windows XP that you can't do on a Mac running OSX. It's all a matter of preference. I run Windows 2000 because I know it better. Noone used a Mac while I was growing up. But that doesn't mean that Macs are inferior. It only means I don't know anything about it (same with Linux).

Which doesn't change the fact that, for the vast majority of users, there has been no significant upgrade since Office 95. It's true. Between Office 2000 and Office XP, nothing warrants me shelling out 300-600 dollars for an upgrade. And I can just imagine what businesses have to pay as far as licensing fees. But it sure wasn't broken at Office 95. If they had just stopped tweaking with it and just updated the GUI every year or so, most people wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.

  8. Comment - Windows 2000 SP3 Nears, Adds Antitrust Tweaks

It is all in your head, and it doesn't change the fact that computers and operating systems existed before HTML/XML integration. We had a more secure desktop, less bloat, all sorts of nice things. And it ran just fine. The fact remains that Microsoft didn't integrate IE to make things easier, they did it to squash Netscape.
