  1. Review - NVIDIA System Utility

    1.08.5 (Apr 1, 2004)

For all you people who are complaining that it doesn't work, perhaps you should check to make sure your board is even supported. And to those who think this program isn't finished because they can only use 2 tabs, check the user's guide that is downloadable from nVidia's site. It tells you in black n' white that some boards can't access advanced features because the manufacturer doesn't support it. This is a highly capable program that does exactly what it says it does, and its very easy to use. It deserves a 5 rating, not the 2.1 you simpletons have chosen to give it based off of lack of knowledge as to what this does. Shame on you all.

  2. Review - IconPackager

    2.5 (Jan 13, 2004)

Sure, $15 does sound pricey, but its a good program that does exactly what it states. Sure, it has its little hangups (no explorer shell support...yet), but there is a vast collection of icons that utilize this program, making it worthwhile. And if you purchase the whole Stardock suite, at only $45, you get a hell of a lot of good product. Sure, there are cheaper (or free) alternatives, but as with all things, eventually greed will take over and either those programs will bloat with spy/ad-ware, they will begin charging fees, or they will simply vanish. Don't give it a low rating just because it costs to continue use of it, give it a low rating if it didn't work for you.

  3. Review - WindowBlinds

    4.1 (Dec 4, 2003)

I don't know where all the Stardock bashers get their info, or what types of computers they use, but it seems to me their only argument isn't that the program doesn't work, its that its way too slow. Well, on my AMD AthlonXP 2600+, this program uses just as much resources as Style XP does. Oooh, Style XP offers a no-resource function...how quaint. But what does it mean? You basically aren't using it. Well, I always run WindowsBlinds. My theme is always on. And, its a hell of a lot more stable than Style XP. Like I give a rat's a** about the ability to "turn the program off". Perhaps if I only had 128 megs of RAM I would see this point, but I make skins, so I need hella RAM for this. Point is, this program is better than what Style XP offers, period. What you lose in resources (and I don't), you more than gain in functionality, content, and stability.

  4. Comment - Google Earth adds even more detail, sunlight effects

    4.1 (Apr 17, 2008 - 7:59 AM)

Yes, that makes sense. Google should cough up outrageous amounts of cash to purchase newer images for a program that costs them money to develop and yet there isn't any revenue coming from the vast majority of its users. Yes, that is sound logic. Be thankful the program is even free.

  5. Comment - Microsoft, Apple Join to Fix Vista iPod Issues

    4.1 (May 8, 2007 - 4:38 PM)

Um, while I agree with you to a point, what about those of us who purchased computers from makers like Dell BEFORE they added the option of an XP install instead of Vista? I NEVER expected them to do an about face in the midst of the customers' wishes considering MS gives them huge incentives for pushing their latest products. I DID do my homework (I beta-tested Vista and never had this issue with ejecting my iPod during any of the interim builds or release candidates). I don't know/care who is responsible...all I care about is that the issue is fixed.

  6. Comment - Windows Live Hotmail Launches in US on Monday

When I tested Live Messenger, I received a "laptop" bag with the Live Messenger logo.

  7. Comment - Decline in Xbox 360 Sales Dampens Good Microsoft Quarter

    4.1 (Apr 27, 2007 - 8:40 AM)

Yeah, nobody's buying the 360. Let me ask you this...when was the last time you saw a half-million people in one place? I went to the last Woodstock and that was only a quarter million and let me tell you, that was a lot of people. For double that to purchase a $300+ gaming system in 3 months is still an impressive feat, to be sure. You do have to remember that we are facing some tough economic times right now, regardless of what the government tells us, and some people simply can't quantify spending that much money on a gaming machine when gas prices and healthcare costs are through the roof. I wouldn't call the 360 a failure...not when they've already sold 10-million+ of them. Give it time, watch the trend, and then pass judgment.

  8. Comment - FCC Approves AT&T / BellSouth Merger

    4.1 (Dec 31, 2006 - 9:44 AM)

Um, U-Verse just became available in my area and I checked into it. Its not "fiber to the house" as you've suggested. They may eventually offer this as an option, but its fiber to the node and traditional analog from the node to the house. All you really get is television...the broadband is a choice of their Express, Elite, or Pro DSL offerings at 1mb, 3mb, and 6mb, respectively...definately not a competitor to Verizon's fiber offering.

And the pricing is just as ridiculous as I expected. For the full package, you get up to 3 television receivers (only 1 can be a DVR, but I found out that each box is a DVR, just the remaining boxes have the harddrive disconnected...crack it open, plug in the ribbon cable and power connector, reboot, and you're all set), all the channels including premium channels like HBO, and At&T Yahoo High Speed Internet Pro (3mb/1mb) for the "low low price" of $119/month. If you want HD, at an additional $10. Now, couple this with the fact that basic phone service is NOT included in the U-Verse package, and your bill is essentially going to be around $170, going off the fact that I cancelled my AT&T basic phone service when it ballooned to $50. This is hardly a deal when my local cable company offers a full cable package with the same premium channels for $100, our internet is 10mb/1mb for $30 more, and I use Vonage at $24.

Now, there is talk that they will roll their AT&T CallVantage program into the U-Verse umbrella, but you would think that since its a phone-based service that they would have included at the very least basic phone service, but no, according to their own customer service reps, phone service is a separate entity that is supported by a different call-center, billing system, and data center than the U-Verse system. This is AT&T dropping the ball in the name of reduced costs over what Verizon is offering. The internet speed needs to be double for me to even think about biting.
