  1. Review - Registry Mechanic

    5.1 (Feb 9, 2006)

it's alrite. good interface, good implamentation of features, all of which do seem to affect performance to some degree, varying from system to system, such as unloading unused DLLs from the memory after use more quickly. but dont expect any miracles -- it merely removes what it deems invalid references, and they usually are, however for the short term this is harmless junk -- im not going to say on the long term effects of the "buildup" of these entries. who knows. also there are a considerable number of other softs which do share the same basic features, but at the cost of being less noob-orientated, are more in depth when it comes to finding useless entries(RegSeeker,Hover Inc.), and don't cost $19.95, infact nothing at all. you could argue "but which has better support?" well, u'll have to pay $19.95 to find out.

  2. Review - Process Explorer

    10.02 (Feb 9, 2006)

I agree. Best in category. Makes troubleshooting any service related tasks simple, and shows descriptions of the services, such as manufacturer & diretory of the running processes. Handy if u want to free up some ram pre-gaming

  3. Review - Arovax AntiSpyware

    1.0.584 Beta (Feb 9, 2006)

Fast, easy to navigate interface, with basic config. options and a good rate of detection.
Yes there may be better, but considering it's freeware it won't do any harm to try.

  4. Comment - Microsoft Hints at Six Vista Editions

    1.0.584 Beta (Feb 21, 2006 - 11:53 AM)

as long as there is a good description of what each version contains and who it is aimed at i dont have any problems personally

ie, business edition: "enterprise solutions, network security in one complete package" [insert jargon here]

then home: "the complete starter for home users, built in firewall, anti-spyware, and entertainment pack with all the functionality of XP and more"

then a description of the new features on the back of box or something

  5. Comment - Google Desktop 3 Beta Released

    1.0.584 Beta (Feb 12, 2006 - 11:40 AM)

theres also an interesting article here--http://www.searchenginejournal.com/index.php?p=2914

"I think if you are that scared of the US government infringing on your privacy then you shouldn’t have a Google account, nor Google Desktop Search nor a Gmail account. In fact I don’t think you should have any Internet accounts because quite honestly everyone is a target for the DOJ. Further, I can almost guarantee you that your local ISP will fold and hand over the data much easier than Google will.

So before you start complaining about how Google could infringe your privacy, remember that YOU have the ability to stop it from happening. It’s just a matter of choosing to do so."

    couldnt agree more.

  6. Comment - Google Desktop 3 Beta Released

    1.0.584 Beta (Feb 11, 2006 - 2:00 PM)

well, i feel theres nothing to worry about here. correct me if im wrong. so google index's your url history and email. now, any personal information on my computer is "protected", such as credit card details, passwords, and so on, so im prompted if it ever tries to leave my computer, and before filling in forms, etc.

    from google:---
If you choose to enable Search Across Computers, Google will securely transmit copies of your indexed files to Google Desktop servers, in order to provide the feature. Google treats the contents of your indexed files as personal information, in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
You can choose to enable Advanced Features during installation and you can change your mind at any time in Desktop Preferences. Personally identifying information, such as your name or address, will not be sent to Google without your explicit permission.

so why all the fbi/nsa/boogyman conspiracies? what have 'i' got to worry about as an individual?
someone care to enlighten me on the "implications" of all this.
