  1. Review - Twidium

    2.0 (Oct 15, 2010)

I block people that use nonsense like this. It's spammy, and annoying.

  2. Review - SUMo

    2.10.2.98 (Oct 13, 2010)

The FileForum version usually includes the RelevantKnowledge scamware, which is why I go to the KC Softwares website and download the SUMo-Lite version which is denoted by an icon with RK and a red circle with a line through it.

However, today I downloaded that one from their website and discovered that SUMo-Lite 2.10.2.98 now has new scamware in it: Uniblue Registry Booster. Google it, it's more scareware/scamware that doesn't want to let you uninstall it.

If the Lite version is going to contain scamware, too, I have serious doubts about my continuing to use anything from KC Softwares in the future.

  3. Review - AnyDVD HD

    6.4.4.0 (Jun 16, 2008)

    CharlieGimbert:

There is a reason why you were banned and all of the posts from your multiple fake accounts were deleted. If you don't behave, you will get banned again. Simple. You don't use AnyDVD, you're just a troll. Stop posting fake reviews and stop harassing other people.

  4. Review - SUMo

    1.7.0.42 Beta (Mar 28, 2008)

I had originally knocked this software because it has issues with file versions and the database of updated software was lacking. I have since re-visited it and I am now using it in place of UpdateStar. I am really impressed with the improvements of SUMo. Good work, guys.

  5. Review - Beyond TV

    4.71 (Dec 28, 2007)

I've been using BeyondTV for several years, and I've been very pleased with it. It's a very efficient PVR app, and works quite well under Vista Business. It's a great alternative for those people that don't want to pay the extra money for a Windows media center edition.

  6. Comment - Craiglist asked to shut down adult personals over sex trafficking

    4.71 (Aug 10, 2010 - 1:15 PM)

Perhaps. But CL has deliberately chosen to ignore the issue rather than deal with it because it generates a lot of income for them. It's not like they can pretend they are unaware of the situation. And they claim that they do monitor the content of the adult sections - but if they did, then none of those posts for prostitution would be there, would they?

Look, I'm not against prostitution if that's what people want to do, unless it involves children or is done against someone's will. I am, however, totally against the hypocrisy of any company that claims they're doing something to curtail illegal behavior when the reality is that they do the opposite. If CL said, "Yeah, pimps and prostitutes use our service, we don't monitor them, we just make money from it. It's not our job to be the police," then I would have a lot more respect for them. But they're saying one thing and doing another.

If they were *really* committed to putting a stop to the misuse of the site, maybe they should remove the adult services, adult gigs and casual encounters sections.

But you know how it is. Making millions of dollars from those very things tips the scales very heavily in favor of not giving a s*** about prostitution and rape.

  8. Comment - Spybot Search & Destroy competitors are trying to force its removal

    4.71 (Apr 7, 2009 - 4:37 PM)

I'll stick with Avira Antivir free personal edition and Spybot S&D. I gave up on the big commercial AV apps when they started doing more than just antivirus - I don't need a firewall when my OS has one built-in. And I especially don't trust any AV app that requires me to delete over 100 registry entries manually in order to uninstall it.

  9. Comment - Adobe claims 100 million AIR installs...Where's Silverlight?

    4.71 (Feb 1, 2009 - 2:38 PM)

    @EdSF:

Whether I know anything about SilverLight or AIR isn't the point I was making. @mossyblog is a Microsoft employee whose job it is to scour the internet for Adobe Flash/AIR postings and respond with typical MS FUD in order to promote SilverLight. You will not see any unbiased information coming from him. I would only trust a third-party review that had no vested interest in either platform. Reading the comments, it's pretty easy to tell where people's sympathies lie.

  10. Comment - Adobe claims 100 million AIR installs...Where's Silverlight?

    4.71 (Jan 29, 2009 - 8:36 PM)

I'd have to say that's a lie. Every new install of Windows I've ever seen requires you to install flash in order to view any websites using flash, because it doesn't come as standard. However, some OEM manufacturers like Sony and Dell might include it was part of all of their excess crap they include, but a clean install of Windows includes no flash at all.
