AHHA "although I may be a bit bias since I already have 100s of disks catalogued in it cant see me doing them all over."
I hear that man. I've been using this proggie for about 4 years. Aint no way I'm switchin. Just think of all the disks I'd have singley put in and out of my poor CD-ROM!!!

OK. I can ALTER TABLE with the GUI. But, it still needs a scripting window/environment. Overall, I'll give it a 5 for a pre version 1.

How does the consumer benefit? From competition and therefore choices. Rather than being limited to using applications that were written for the .NET framework they can choose to use applications written for the Java framework. "
I'll bring this up again. Why is the introduction of .NET limiting anyone from anything? I mean, s***, if I want to run VB6 apps on win95 I have to download and install the VB6 runtime files. Right?
If I want to run some X apps, I have to download and install QT runtime files. Right?
Can you deny that if wanted to run Java apps on *ANY* OS that I would have to download and install the JRE to run Java apps?
I guess I just don't get the "big deal" with this whole situation. Why should MS be required to include competetors products with their product?
Java runs anywhere: right?
Not without the runtime. Just like any other proprietary product.
Why aren't Sun and HP required to include a port of the MFC or VB to Unix?

"With the jvm installed on every copy of windows developers will be able to target the Java platform just as easily as they will be able to target the .NET platform"
What is to stop ANYONE from installing the JSK on windows?
"Yes I realise that .NET isn't included in every copy of Windows... yet.... but let's be serious here... it won't be long before it is."
And what, exactly, is wrong with that? It's MS platform. It's MS OS. I don't get your argument. Much less the governments'.
"How do consumers benefit from having less competition in the market as a result of Microsoft being able to include everything they want with Windows?"
This isn't really about consumers. This is about corporation vs. corporation. What the hell does Mom care about any of this? It's MS's OS. If they want to include MS products with their OS, they should be able to. If you don't like it, move on to some crap *nix that you can't use for your desktop machine. I don't care. Good ridance.
"Try and think more long term rather than "java sux0rs, it's a slow piece of junk.... they better have an uninstall for it.... (even though they don't provide an uninstall for all their junk)". "
I really think that's an outdated statement. It shows how out of the loop you are. Java is a GREAT platform. No denying it. But, think for a second. If windows was your creation (not that is completly MS creation, but, it is their IP non-the-less), would you like it if you were being denied to include any of your inventions? I mean, COME ON. This is corporate whining.

Fact is. Anyone who leaves their database server open to the public internet deseves to be infected. No matter what the bug was targeting. Be it MS-SQL, Oracle, Postegres, DB2, hell even MYSQL. A database should not be in the "wild".

You think that a process running at != root == safe? Doh!!!!
This is what I don't like about the OSS movement. Linux (or BSD, AtOS, Blah blah,...Etc.) is NOT thee OS for the masses. Just as many exploits if not more.

OK. Solaris is FREE? Didn't think so.
