  1. Review - WindowBlinds

    6.01 Build 40 (Nov 8, 2007)

I guess that this review will qualify me as a "Stardock fanboy".

I have been using Stardock software (Object Desktop specifically) since they were one of the few companies supporting OS2. Their software has always worked in my (admittedly) low end machines.

Windowblinds has the ability to change the skin (layout, color, transparency and blur, etc.) of Windows, the fonts you use, the desktop graphics, toolbar icons, explorer animations. All this from one control location.

Windowblinds IN CONJUNCTION WITH other programs can completely change how your system looks and feels. If you don't like the provided skins, make your own. If you feel that your layout is superior, upload it to WinCustomize.com.

Stardock has been accused of bloatware - I don't see it. If you compare Windowblinds to other, lesser programs, it is larger, true.

  2. Review - PowerDVD Tweaker

    1.0 (Dec 23, 2003)

I was hoping that this program would solve a couple of problems (PCFriendly to top the list). While it did remove the PCFriendly attempts to start-up, it limits the user to only a few minutes of DVD viewing (until it's fee is paid).
To be fair, the homepage does mention the time limitation. I just don't feel that an add-on program should knock me out of a major program like PowerDVD.

  3. Comment - Steve Jobs returns to the stage with an overhauled iPod Nano

No. This comment / post is rejected / downgraded due to: 1.) Having no bearing on the article above it. 2.) Showing no originality in regards to keeping things civil. 3.) Being bitter.

  4. Comment - Betanews CES 2009 Contest: Win Vista Ultimate and Office 2007

    1.0 (Jan 5, 2009 - 4:28 PM)

Microsoft: Will there be 6 - 7 versions of Windows 7, or 2 (two), like you did with Windows XP?

Will you continue to charge an amount equivalent to the cost of the hardware required to run the OS, for the OS?

Will you still be insisting on inserting DRM into the OS - even though it was a major point for people NOT to utilize Windows Vista?

  5. Comment - Caption Contest: Win Vista and Office!

    1.0 (Jan 30, 2007 - 5:41 PM)

Gates: "Please let this demo work . . ."

Ballmer: "When I use Windows Vista, it feels like I am flying!"

  6. Comment - Firefox 2: 2 Million Downloads in a Day

    1.0 (Oct 31, 2006 - 5:54 AM)

Punctuation, it is a wonderful thing. It can separate a rambling statement and make coherent sentences out of it. You ought to try something other than commas and lower case. Then you won't get comments like this.

Firefox 2.x is nice, but I miss some of the older version's methods. I really had to work to get the tabbed browsing to work properly (chosen links in new tabs - NOT a new instance of Firefox).

  7. Comment - MS: IE Patch Causing Browser Crashes

    1.0 (Aug 16, 2006 - 8:39 PM)

I hate to disagree with you (wait, no, I *don't* hate to disagree with you), but this affects SP2 users as well. I have installed (and removed) this patch several times, and each time it is installed, it really messes up my GUI. Not just IE, but the GUI for the system. I'll wait and see if the revamped patch will work.
