fliegendreck,
Seems to me your post comes very close to personal attack on anyone who writes something other than glowing comments for this program. Get over it. The idea of ppl posting a review is to give their opinion on the apps not what you want to hear. Is it slow yes, are some not pleased with it and saying so yes, are they supposed to post their honest opinions also yes. Are they just supposed to shut up because you like it since its free and they see faults in it NO. That you like it is great and post your own opinion on the SOFTWARE not the ppl who's opinion differes from yours.
I tried this app in the past found it lacking and have absolutly no desire to use it now or in the future. Basically if you need cheap n free then go for it but if you can afford better it makes sense to ignore it.

When saw this on main page thought cool some secret settings but to be honest really see little to nothing feature wise to be paying for. As far as Im aware you dont need to overscan to play on computer monitor and a tool called TvTool for like $12 will do that excellently and will even let you do all the aspect adjusting you want.from what I understand many newer cards/drivers also have OS feature now.
As for the RF and region change feature one can use a free proggy called "DVD Region Killer" to do the same.
Just do not see this as being any sort of really valuble tweaker, at this point, however if more features are added I'd be willing to at least look.
8.00.0070 Beta (Apr 26, 2003)
Contrary to the last persons comments I've found it to be a very good program. Apparently the person never looked at the File open option or would see that it will even handle movie files besides music files. I have been using it since way way back and can safly say In all that time I have not recieved even 1 BSOD from it.
It is an either a "you like it" or "Don't like it" type program, simple as that. To simply slam it, makeing blanket statements that its bad etc I think is wrong. Suffice to say I personally think its a great program that miraculusly has exhibited none of the problems the previous poster complains of being previlent.
8.00.0057 Beta (Apr 18, 2003)
Well I've always loved the program myself and I went ahead and DL the beta but curious where on their site its mentioned or is this really sort of a leak? Just curious as I couldnt find any refrence to a Beta at their site but saw that the dl did come from their servers.
So far one nice change I noticed, at least for me. Before my volume in MM and System were linked so if I minimalized the window and the players Vol was all the way up but my sys vol set to 50% it then made my systems vol go to 100% also (with some music that can be deafening). Now seems they are seprate creatures as Changing vol in MM no longer changes main vol. Could of just been a bug in a prev instal tho so cant be sure.

Well never really did get this thing running the way I wanted but If your drive is Region free to beginwith then the free program region killed works a charm with every region/dvd and software player Ive tried WinDVD PowerDVD and NvDVD. If you have a region locked drive then try this but otherwise Regionkiller is IMO a better option.

Required but not really nessisary? Sounds kinda manditory to me but at least for those that said where was my connection tween this app and Java you settled it for me thx.

Apparently then something has changed since the last time I installed this sw because the time I did it gave no option and did install java which I didnt want. Thats why I mentioned Java. If thats not the case now and its not REQUIRED to use it then cool. I still dont like it when companies do the Scare tactic crud, even tho as someone else put it EVERYONE does it. Just because they do it doesnt make it right hehe. Thats like trying to argue to a cop that he shouldnt give you a speeding ticket if caught because EVERYONE else drives thru the same area at 10 mph over the limit.
Anyway like I said if JAVA isnt manditory now then great but that didnt seem to be the case last time I installed this stuff and because of the previous experience I felt no urge to go thru it again.

"Acknowledging this trend, Hiser took a directed blow at Redmond, saying, "look for tools that make it easier for users to switch AWAY from MS Office, because if 350 million (legacy MS Office users Windows 2000 and below) users don't do it on THIS upgrade they'll definitely pay up to get out in '05 & '06 when the trap is more apparent to them."
Why use scare tactics to try and convince ppl to switch? If its good enough ppl will on their own with out such statements. Personally as I am against Java and never was happy that they tried to litigate for forced coverage and installation on MS os's instead of just putting out a better product ppl would WANT to download I wont even be trying this new version.
Like I said mainly wondering why they felt using some "Dire Future" story was nessisary.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but isnt that what you pay AV software companies for, to do the work of scanning files and such. Seems to me AV companies complaining it makes their software work harder is sort of imaterial in this.
As for the latest wimper from Sun, nothing really new here...once again their whining in public about MS to draw attention to themselves. MS is not "uncomplying" (is that a word?) with OASIS they are mearly giving additional options besides what OASIS thinks it should be to the actual user. As long as the basic is there to use if wanted whats the beef...other than sun can't say it can open all office docs if the user used a diff scheme.

Your right and who knows it may all be a tempest in a teapot once its over with. I just feel its not the Courts place to say what must be installed on my box. As a mandatory DL option I would accept but its the you must intall bit that bothers me. One thing to require MS to even the playing field by makeing this easy for your client base to get that want it but it should still be our choice not the courts.
Then again I dont really know what to think of our courts. Was reading in the news this AM about an appeals court ruleing that Prison officials could force an inmate on Death Row to take medication which would stablize/qualify him as sain so they can execute him. Go figure, the High courts rule its cruel and wrong to execute the mentally ill but to force him to take meds so hes legally considered sain enough to stick a needle in.
