    NOD32 is an excellent antivirus but there are some issues.
    -updates sometimes freeze or just stop
    -product is not updated on weekends!
    -many trojans are not considered malware by NOD32
    -comprehensive but convoluted interface

    And as for proactive vs. on demand scanning here is a comparison from AV-Comparatives:
    On-demand comparative
    KAV 99,77%
    NOD32 98,77%
    Both excellent, right?

    Retrospective / ProActive
    This test shows the pure proactive ON-DEMAND detection capability that the scanners had 3 months ago with best possible detection settings.
    KAV 24%
    NOD32 58%
    NOD32 more than doubles KAV in this test but what is the point? Is 58% satsifactory? What is the point of not updating your virus scanner? I wouldn't depend on either with outdated signatures, would you?

    Simply the best antivirus there is.
    -highest detection rate
    -great spyware and malware detection too
    -frequent small updates
    -very low resource usage - yes, even lower than NOD32
    -simple and attractive interface

    If you want to buy an antivirus, KAV should be your first pick. It is especially good for those who seem to get their machines infested on a regular basis.

    The freebies (AntiVir, Avast and AVG)are all good but don't compare to KAV.

    KAV: 24%
    NOD32: 58%

    These are with 3 month old databases. If you plan on using an antivirus without updating it, GONADS32 is your man. ;P

    Scan speeds?

    KAV: Average
    NOD32: Fast

    Because KAV scans much more deeply and finds things such as trojans and spyware. I gave up on GONADS32 after submitting 8 trojans in 2 months to them.
    Oh, by the way... KAV found them all. :)

    Let's see... AOL offering KAV 6 for free. No strings attached. Best detection of ANY AV.
