Thunderbird works - that's all you should be concerned about - the fact they issue fixes is a bonus, why mess with something that works and does what it's supposed to, Send and Receive email.
I use Thunderbird on Linux, OSX, & Windows (no licensing fees) I mean come on what more can you ask from the developers?

I've been using ver 4 since beta2 and have to say it's fantastic. I have had no issues connecting to other clients running different versions even connecting to my linux machines. The interface is a lot better than previous versions and must admit I like using Skype in Windows even though it's not my primary choice of OS's - now if they can only update the Linux Skype ver 2 I'd be even happier.
No bad marks from me, I think they're doing a great job providing a solution to VoIP calling.
