I love OpenOffice. When I cleaned out my laptop and reinstalled all my software, I chose not to install MS Office (even though I can get a valid CD copy/license for only $10 here at college).
There are some features I miss and have almost gotten me to re-install MS Office: an easy way to center text vertically on a page (without using tables!) and an easy way to crop images.
But so far, it's been a wonderful replacement and I've even tried to get other people to try it out. Plus, having Portable OpenOffice on my 5GB USB drive is a godsend when the university computer labs only have MS Office on them!
1.3 Build 1522 (Mar 28, 2006)
They have fixed the printing problem (page printing one solid black box over the entire page) I had on my Epson Stylus CX6600. Many thanks for the new version and I'm now giving it a better rating.
1.3 Build 0104 (Jan 22, 2006)
I do like that it's fast and small (good for older machines like my girlfriend's hand-me-down computer), but there's no form-fill feature in the free version, and printing is horrible. I tried to print several PDFs and all that came out were pages covered in blank ink. Installed Acrobat Reader and all the PDFs printed fine (printing from other applications like OpenOffice, Firefox worked fine throughout).
As of now, AVOID this software. This bug has been needed to be fixed since November. You will find much better use from Adobe Acrobat Reader with Acrobat Reader Speed-Up (http://fileforum.betanew...er_SpeedUp/1069854583/1).
1.4.1. Beta Build 406 (Jan 19, 2006)
Funny how everyone is complaining how uTorrent is starting to integrate the RSS portion, when they complained that Azereus had it and uTorrent didn't. Funny how uTorrent is still under 150 KB. Still my #1 bittorrent program.
1.4.1 Beta Build 405 (Jan 17, 2006)
dhry,
The RSS feature is for direct downloading of torrents from RSS feeds, NOT reading RSS feeds. That's two very different functions. I've had no problems with uTorrent not deleting the torrent files when I've asked it to.
I switched from Azureus to uTorrent a few months ago and have never looked back. My computer seems faster when using other demanding applications (since the JRE doesn't need to be running on my system) and is a better fit on lower-powered and older computers. Win 9+ support is something rarely seen! uTorrent's features are just right for what I need. I've never had any major speed problems. The new RSS Reader I've gotten to test a little and it seems to work great! It is too bad that it's not open source, but maybe it will someday when it matures. Love it!
